Anastasia Rosewood, Rum Punch, Rage Matte Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Rosewood
Anastasia Rosewood Matte Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium-dark plum with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had opaque color payoff in a single layer, and the lipstick was dense enough that it tugged on the lips, but it managed to apply evenly across the lips and did not appear dry or ragged (despite feeling like it would look like that!). The color wore well for five and a half hours and didn’t feel drying on.

Formula Overview
$18.00/0.12 oz. - $150.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have “full-pigment” with a “smooth, ultra-matte finish.” Since the description was a little light, I also watched the brand’s video, where the formula is also supposed to be comfortable to apply and not settle in lip lines. The best aspects of the formula are how lightweight it felt on–almost like nothing on, so despite being more matte and denser, not heavy or clingy–and that most shades have been non-drying (so far).
There has been some transfer, and the finish is mostly matte but not “ultra-matte” (certainly not as flat or matte as their liquid lipsticks, as an example). Some shades have emphasized my lip lines from a texture standpoint or due to color settling into them, but it depended on the shade. The wear has ranged from four and a half hours to eight hours, and some of the richer shades can survive a moderate meal and definitely drinking coffee.
I found the texture to be the drawback; the lipstick is incredibly firm and dense with little to creaminess, which resulted in an application that tugged and pulled on the lips. It was also the type of texture that caught on flakes, so regular exfoliation is key. There were a few shades that were creamier and thicker on the lips, which were more comfortable to apply, but the majority were quite firm. (They also did not get softer with use.)

Rum Punch
Anastasia Rum Punch Matte Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark plum with neutral-to-warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. There was a subtle sheen to the finish after initial application, though it wore away within an hour of wear. The lipstick had a denser consistency that felt firm against the lips and tugged as I tried to glide the bullet across my lips, but it managed to apply even, opaque coverage in a single stroke. This shade lasted well for five and a half hours and was comfortable to wear, as it was not drying.

Rage
Anastasia Rage Matte Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a rich, medium-dark purple with warmer, pink undertones and a matte finish. It had good pigmentation, though it was not quite opaque, and the coverage did not appear streaky but it did seem deeper and lighter in places. This would be a shade I’d recommend wearing with a lip liner for absolute coverage and precision. The consistency was lightweight in feel, but the lipstick was dense and firm in the tube, so it tugged quite a bit when I applied it to my lips. It lasted well for over six hours and was neither drying nor hydrating.

I haven’t been paying much attention to these lipsticks. But I really like these three shades!!
They are nice!
Rum Punch and Rosewood are very lovely colors. Great as an in-between shade for when you don’t want a nude but don’t want anything too dramatic, either.
Those two seem to be the faves!
Apparently, I’m a plum hoarder, LoL! Got my wakeup call when looking at the DL for Rum Punch. Have MAC VG III, Retro, Del Rio, plus a sample of Ciate Pin-up that I received in an Ipsy Bag and love.
Well…I didn’t wait to get Rage after your review. Couldn’t help myself once I tried it on. So I picked it up at Ulta the other day. I love this formula so much, because it lasts on me and doesn’t give me the weird goop, either!
Haha! I’m not surprised you like your plums 🙂
I like Rum Punch.. it looks really nicely balanced! Rage I think would just make me look more citrusy. LOL.
Rum Punch is a beauty! 😉
You don’t want to be an orange?!
Oooh Rage is pretty!!!
It is!
I went and swatched these at Sephora nd some of them are so dangon DRY!! I did pick up two colors; Dusty Mauve and Stevie. Not only did they go on much smoother but they are gorgeous colors. I wanted RUST but it is almost a dupe to TOO FACE liquid lipstick in Naughty By Nature so I didn’t want to get two browns like that.
I am wearing Dusty Mauve today and it’s a great color. A liner is needed but can also be worn without it and it’s not drying at all. I topped it with Huda lip stobe in snobby and got a nice color. I don’t think I’ll be picking up anymore because they all looked so dry and did not go well on my skin.
I love the hardware. Nice tube, very sleek but looks like a shotgun shell from a far lol.
I think they wear a lot better than they feel going on (or even swatched) – like they seem as if they should be very drying and uncomfortable but aren’t!
Now, Rage is MY kind of color! And ABH is cruelty-free, so it’s a brand I buy.
I’d be more likely to buy Rage in the spring, though.
It looks like a very wearable purple, which appeals to me. I love purple, but my coloring and lifestyle don’t allow me to get away with straight-on purple lipstick.
Thankfully, it is permanent!
The first two are really lovely shades for day wear and I think they would work for most complexions too.
I agree!
Rosewood and Rum Punch are very flattering to your skin tone…not that my opinion matters, lol.
Thank you, Shari!
Love your eye look and the lip sticks especially Rosewood.I might pick Rosewood up since I don’t have any dupes. I thought for sure the eye shadow you were wearing was the matte TF Peach palette. ABH Subculture eye shadows sure looks good on you!
All three are pretty. I really like Rosewood the best, no I lie, my favourite is Rage, but I do have more than one dupe for it.
Rosewood is a great everyday colour, I might actually get it. Putting it on my wishlist so I don’t forget 🙂
I *really* like Rage, and since ABH is cruelty-free, I just may buy it.
I’d be more likely to actually wear it in spring/summer, though.
I really wanted to love Rum Punch as it is a gorgeous color, but unfortunately I had to return. It was so dry and faded off of my lips in an unflattering way. It was also a nightmare to layer: you could see the patches where I had reapplied the lipstick. Frankly, I’m not a fan of lipsticks that are too high maintenance. If I have to remove it completely to reapply, it’s not worth my time!
Oh no, Mags! I found them to be stiff to apply in general but they actually went on so smoothly (it was like magic to me, lol). I’m glad you were able to return!
