Anastasia Matte Lipstick

The formula is supposed to have “full-pigment” with a “smooth, ultra-matte finish.” Since the description was a little light, I also watched the brand’s video, where the formula is also supposed to be comfortable to apply and not settle in lip lines. The best aspects of the formula are how lightweight it felt on–almost like nothing on, so despite being more matte and denser, not heavy or clingy–and that most shades have been non-drying (so far). Anastasia Lip Gloss

It is supposed to be “opaque” with “high-shine” that’s “non-drying.” It is one of the more pigmented lipglosses out there that has a smoother, more cushion-y consistency that typically spreads well across the lips. Some shades gather in lip lines, and some shades apply streaky; it seems more common with lighter shades and milkier colors. Read more...

ColourPop Lippie Stix

The formula is supposed to have "full coverage" with a "long-wearing, ultra comfortable" feel. Because there are quite a few finishes in the range, some of the results depend more on the finish. Read more...

L'Oreal Colour Riche Shine Lipstick

The formula is described as "an ultra-rich, ultra-radiant lipstick with a glossy finish and comfortable wear." Per the brand, "in just one stroke," you'll get "rich color pay-off" with a "hydrating and lasting shine." The pigmentation varied from shade to shade but was generally medium to semi-opaque, often buildable to semi-opaque to opaque coverage. The texture was moderately emollient with noticeable slip, balminess, and felt lightweight on the lips. Read more...

MAC Lipstick

MAC Lipstick comes in a variety of finishes, and the pigmentation and wear tend to be dependent on the finish. The sheer finishes, like Lustres, tend to wear for only a couple of hours and have sheer coverage (as designed) and are non-drying. Read more...

Maybelline ColorSensational Powder Matte Lipstick

The formula is supposed to be a "pure matte" lipstick that "glide[s] onto lips." It is designed as a more matte version of the brand's Creamy Matte Lip Color, which was also described as a "burst of bold lip color." It has the feel of an old school lipstick to me--drying, tugging but more matte than a lot of today's matte lipsticks (well, traditional bullet-style lipsticks). Read more...

Maybelline Color Sensational Made for All Lipstick

The ColorSensational formula is supposed to have "crisp and vibrant color" with a "sensuous finish" that is "comfortable" to wear. The "Made for All" range is specially designed to be "universally flattering" across 50 skin tones for each shade in the line. Most of the shades had semi-opaque to opaque color coverage that went on evenly and didn't settle into my lip lines. Read more...

Milani Bold Color Statement Matte Lipstick

The formula is supposed to be "bold, hydrating color" with "intense color in just one swipe." The finish is more of a "soft matte" to true satin (a little more sheen than "soft matte" to my eye), and the finish will wear down to a more matte finish within an hour or two of wear (or faster if one blots). Revlon Super Lustrous Melting Glass Shine Lipstick

The formula is supposed to have "brilliant color with major payoff" with an "amazingly buttery feel that instantly melts onto your lips for glass-like shine." The coverage was more medium to semi-opaque, often buildable to a minor degree, so I don't know that I'd call it "major payoff," the coverage was noticeable and allowed for real differentiation from shade to shade as they weren't so sheer that they ran together. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick

The formula is supposed to have "lightweight color and moisturizing shine" with "buildable color payoff" and a "gliding, smooth application." It's a good formula for those who like medium, buildable coverage with a smooth, balmy consistency that glides across lips easily but doesn't feel too slippery while worn. Read more...

Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Long Wear Matte Lipstick

It is supposed to apply like a gloss but dry to “an ultra-matte, opaque finish” that is “never dry, shriveled, or cracked” that should “last for hours.” Most of the shades are unforgiving once they dry down and emphasize lip lines, look “cracked” if you smile, though they feel lighter-weight than they look. Urban Decay Vice Lipstick

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.11 oz.) is available in six finishes, which are primarily distinguished by level of sheen, shimmer content, and coverage. I didn't notice any scent or taste. Mega Mattes are the thinnest and have the most “cling” as they are drier and more matte (but most are semi-matte and not a totally flat matte) and can be drying, though they are longer-wearing. Urban Decay Hi-Fi Shine Ultra Cushion Lip Gloss

The formula is supposed to be "ultra-shiny" with a "cushiony-soft" texture that has "long-lasting wear that's comfortable, not tacky." They are scented with "vanilla-mint," which I did detect, and I could taste slightly (more like a vague sweetness). There was a slight minty tingle upon initial application, but it was very subtle and more of a cooling sensation than anything painful. Read more...

UOMA Beauty Black Magic Metallic Lipstick

The formula is supposed to have "explosive color and rave worthy shine" that is "comfortable and plush on the lips." The pigmentation was semi-opaque to opaque, depending on shade, and most applied evenly. A few shades could have been more even, especially on the inner portion of my lips, but they were often sparkly enough that it was less noticeable in person than it could have been. Read more...

Thank you so much for this round up of lipsticks from the major brands. The ones I really would like are those from Milani – I am Confident and I am Movtivated – but for the life of me, cannot get them in Aus.
I also like the UD’s Roach and/or Smog – but again, not available here.
