Bite Beauty Thistle Amuse Bouche Lipstick

Bite Beauty Thistle Amuse Bouche Lipstick ($26.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a muted, medium mauve with neutral-to-cool undertones and a satin finish. The texture was a little thinner and felt a touch clingy–I felt like it exaggerated the texture of my lips rather than smoothed it out (like the other two shades did). It had great color payoff, though, and lasted for four and a half hours. The formula was neither drying nor hydrating for me. Makeup Geek Trailblazer (P, $12.00) is lighter (90% similar). Bite Beauty Gelato (P, $24.00) is lighter (85% similar). Bite Beauty Cava (DC, $24.00) is lighter (85% similar). Bite Beauty Cancer (LE, $26.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Revlon Perfect Storm (P, $10.99) is more shimmery, darker, cooler (85% similar). ColourPop Trap (DC, $6.50) is lighter, warmer, less glossy (85% similar). ColourPop Cheap Thrills (DC, $6.50) is darker, cooler, less glossy (90% similar). MAC Driftwood (DC, $21.00) is lighter, warmer (80% similar). Bite Beauty Cava (DC, $26.00) is lighter (80% similar). Too Faced Queen B (P, $21.00) is lighter, warmer, less glossy (80% similar). Anastasia Dusty Mauve (P, $18.00) is darker, less glossy (85% similar). Urban Decay Violate (DC, $18.00) is warmer (85% similar). Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Poseur (DC, $17.00) is lighter (80% similar). NARS Dominique (P, $34.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer (80% similar). ColourPop Femme (P, $7.00) is darker, cooler (80% similar). Kaleidos Mercury Wave (P, $12.00) is less shimmery, darker, less glossy (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Bite Beauty Lavender Jam Amuse Bouche Lipstick ($26.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a bold, bright, medium purple with cool, blue undertones and a satin finish. It’s a very cool-toned purple–so much so that it almost glows. It had very nearly opaque coverage with a creamy, moderately emollient texture that was noticeably more slippery compared to most shades in the formula. I had a little color settle into lip lines, but it wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance and didn’t seem to get much worse while worn. The color lasted for four and a half hours and left behind a pinkish stain. The formula felt lightly hydrating overall. Sephora Trippin (50) (P, $8.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC Flatter Me Fierce (LE, $19.00) is lighter (85% similar). Bite Beauty Nearly Neon Purple (LE, $26.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). ColourPop So Wavy (LE, $7.00) is darker, less glossy (85% similar). MAC 4Eva (P, $19.00) is lighter, warmer (80% similar). Anastasia Violet (LE, $20.00) is darker (80% similar). KVD Beauty Roxy (P, $19.00) is darker, warmer (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Bite Beauty Taro Amuse Bouche Lipstick ($26.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark grayed purple with subtle, warmer undertones and a natural sheen. It had more slip, like Lavender Jam, but it also had more noticeable shine when applied. The consistency was creamy and comfortable to wear without being clingy, but it didn’t slide around too easily either. It had opaque color coverage, which lasted for almost five hours. The formula was fairly hydrating. Bite Beauty Nectar (P, $24.00) is brighter, warmer (90% similar). Estee Lauder Shameless Violet (P, $32.00) is darker (90% similar). Melt Cosmetics By Starlight (P, $19.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer (85% similar). MAC Epic (LE, $19.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). KVD Beauty Ayesha (P, $20.00) is lighter, warmer, less glossy (85% similar). Bite Beauty Sugar Beet (DC, $24.00) is lighter, brighter (80% similar). Urban Decay Twitch (DC, $18.00) is lighter, warmer (80% similar). MAC Galaxy Grey (DC, $21.00) is lighter (80% similar). Bite Beauty Nearly Neon Purple (LE, $26.00) is lighter, cooler (80% similar). Anastasia #9 (Vol. 1) (PiP, ) is brighter (80% similar). MAC Beach Nut (LE, $19.00) is warmer, less glossy (80% similar). MAC 4Eva (P, $19.00) is lighter, brighter, cooler (80% similar). FORMULA OVERVIEW | Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick ($26.00 for 0.15 oz.) is supposed to have “bold, creamy color” with “extreme moisture, soft texture, and creamy wear.” The majority of the range is very pigmented–typically opaque with one pass–with a few shades being semi-opaque but usually buildable. All 34 shades are shimmer-free and vary being a soft satin finish to a natural finish (light shine but not glossy). The consistency is very lightly creamy to lightly creamyu with some shades requiring light-medium pressure and can pull the lip a bit when gliding it across the lips, though the color doesn’t appear ragged and the bullet itself doesn’t feel stiff (while other shades applied without tugging, so check individual shade reviews!) The majority of the shades I’ve tested have been lightly hydrating to non-drying and fairly comfortable to wear for the long-haul. They wear longer than average, from four to eight hours, depending on the intensity and propensity of the shade to stain.

Thanks for posting! Can’t wait for my Taro to arrive. Sad thats it’s LE though. Really love Bite’s Amuse Bouche line, plus the shade’s name, really love taros! How I wish it’s a bit lighter but anyway, it still a lovely shade for me.

KY Avatar

So, this Thistle is not the same as the Thistle that was released as a limited edition? Woo hoo! Cuz I like this shade better than the LE!

Katherine T. Avatar

Wow, these are all hard to dupe! Compared to UD’s 120 shades, which is great but can be very overwhelming, I like how BITE came up with a small, but well-edited collection of unique shades. Too bad they are all LE 🙁 I love the looks of Lavender Jam but doubt I can pull it off (too pastel and bright) , but Taro looks right up my alley, and I love pastries made with sweet taro filling 🙂

This is entirely true. I just got Thistle, and it shows up much grayer on me than I expected (which is serendipitous; I wanted it to be gray).
That said, it’s a stunning shade, and when mixed with Taro, it creates a beautiful muted taupe/purple.

Thistle looks so edgy and cool on other people — on me, it was so grey and awful! I looked like I was auditioning for a zombie movie or something. Hoping Violate or Oblivion looks better on me.

Lacey Avatar

Thistle is in that family of greyish purples that could either look like chalky death on me or could be pretty like they are on many people I’ve seen. I can never find the testers for those shades to try it out!

Lorrin M Avatar

I already picked up Taro and Squid Ink and they are to die for. Lavender Jam might be next on my list! I’m really happy Bite went out of their comfort zone with these shades and I wish UD would have to with their new Vice lippies.

Celia Avatar

I’ve been wearing Lavender Jam and Taro A LOT. I think I’ll be grabbing a backup LJ because I love it so much. Really such a shame that it’s LE as Bite could certainly stand to have such a blue-purple in their permanent lineup. It’s also very easy to get a quick gradient look with Taro as the outer color and LJ as the inner.

Thistle is a shade I would buy if I loved the formula more(I prefer super long wearing) and it didn’t have those particular fragrance extracts. However, it looks like a mix of those two Colourpop shades, of which I like the (fragrance-less) formulas more.

Bonnie Avatar

I bought all three of these already and Kale!!! These are the best shades ever. I LOVE that an organic based brand is going with these wild and fun shades!!! And I will totally wear them all the time.

Rosy Avatar

I purchased Thistle, and the formula is very nice. The color…. not so much.
My lips are already pigmented so this just added a grey tone that made me look dead 🙁
I feel bad that I have to return it.

Lily Avatar

I got Thistle but I’m returning it because it looks identical to the NYX Lip Lingerie in Embellishment on me! Thistle looks slightly warmer swatched on my hand but when I put one on the top lip and one on the bottom I could not tell a difference. Hot tip to anyone looking for a dupe…

BonnieBBon Avatar

I was ready to sacrifice for Thistle because it’s right in my Zone but the gray talk is scaring me. Dominique can even go gray on me if I’m not careful. But dang Thistle is pretty!

Mingersoll Avatar

Hellooooo!! I love the Taro shade, but I’m 45 and wondering if its too “young” for me. I have dirty-blonde hair and blue eyes. Thoughts?

Brianna Latimer Avatar

Another dupe for Lavender Jam could be Jeffree Stars Liquid Lip in Blow Pony, it’s almost identical but the Jeffree Star one is matte.
