Chanel Duo N. 01 Les Beiges Healthy Glow Multi-Colour Review, Photos, Swatches
Chanel Duo No. 01 Les Beiges Healthy Glow Multi-Colour
Chanel Duo No. 01 Les Beiges Healthy Glow Multi-Colour ($65.00 for 0.39 oz.) is supposed to be used as a highlighting and contouring powder duo that gives a “sheer, natural finish.” As far as higher-end, luxury-level powders, I found these to be sadly lacking in silkiness and smoothness; they just had a firmer, stiffer texture that made getting color coverage out of the shades difficult and harder to apply for a blended, seamless look. The coverage is as described–sheer–and somewhat buildable but mostly sheer to semi-opaque with several layers. I think a key aspect of a great highlighter and/or contouring product (and most cheek/face products) is blendability, and both shades were lacking that.
No. 01 (Top) is a medium-dark peachy-orange with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had sheer to semi-sheer coverage paired with a stiff consistency that was hard to get product off of the pan. I used a really dense brush and jabbed at the half of the pan in order to get color to show up on my skin tone. With extra effort, it blends out for a diffused look, but it’s one of the more time-consuming Chanel powders I’ve used in awhile. The color lasted for seven hours on me. Make Up For Ever B304 (P, $23.00) is lighter (95% similar). Glossier Dusk (P, $18.00) is glossier (90% similar). MAC Naturally Flawless (P, $29.00) is lighter (90% similar). Tarte Sensual (P, $29.00) is cooler (90% similar). ColourPop Chaise (LE, $12.00) is lighter (85% similar). Too Faced Pinch My Peach (P, $30.00) is brighter, cooler (85% similar). No. 01 (Bottom) is a dark brown with neutral-to-warm undertones and a satin finish. It had sheer coverage and a drier, firmer texture that was harder to apply evenly. It does work well for contouring, and I liked how it wasn’t overly warm-toned as a lot of contouring products can be. The satin-to-matte finish also made it appear more shadowy on the skin, as it looked like skin. This shade wore well for seven and a half hours. Illamasqua Steal (P, ) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Swiss Chocolate (P, $24.00) is darker (90% similar). MAC Naturally Enhanced (LE, $34.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). KVD Beauty Subconscious (PiP, ) is darker (90% similar). NYX Hollow (P, $5.00) is darker (90% similar). Burberry Dark Earthy (P, $42.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). Anastasia Dusk (LE, ) is darker (90% similar). This is such a bummer. I ordered both the duo’s in this collection, haven’t even had a chance to try them yet. Looks like I’ll be returning it untouched. That contour shade is really disappointing.
Oh no!! 🙁
Yikes. That second color looks a little too much like dirt. ?
I think this duo would actually work (in theory) on medium-dark and deeper skin tones, though the lighter shade doesn’t have as much sheen as I imagine most will want for a highlighter!
Ever since you told me you were in the process of reviewing this, and that the quality just wasn’t there, I’ve been eagerly awaiting to see just how disappointing it was. I wasn’t expecting a C, though! I love Chanel and swear by the Les Beige powders, but this is totally unacceptable; what were they thinking?
Plus to get a true contouring effect you’d have to buy the OTHER duo, which houses a true highlight, since the top shade here is just a blush and nothing close to what I’d consider a highlight for almost anyone!
Ugh. Dang it, Chanel. Why you gotta do a brother dirty like this? Thanks again, Christine. I’m without a doubt getting the By Terry palette now before the beauty.com sale ends!
Total miss for me – the other one isn’t quite as bad, but neither is really impressive. I like a lot of Chanel’s limited edition powders, but I was so bummed by these!
Do *NOT* miss getting the By Terry’s, Andrew! Both of mine have arrived and they are absolutely gorgeous. The texture is unreal. Totally worth it!
At $65, the formula needs to be silky smooth and blendable, and it’s not 🙁
Exactly 🙁
This is really disappointing. My wish for Chanel is a collection where all pieces received decent grades. Curious to see how the other duo fares.
The shades look lovely on you, Christine.
Thank you, Tracey!
I like the sheerness of them but the stiff and unsilky nature is surprising for the Les Beiges line.
I know! I was surprised 🙁
Awww, too bad about the stiffness…
Agreed!
Um, no. Not getting something that is at this ,or for that matter, anything that only rates a C grade! And this shade combo could’ve been a winner, too. What a shame!
I know! The texture could have been so much better!
Thank you for your review. Can I ask if you have the Chanel duo on both cheeks or do you have different blush on your right cheek (our left)?
On my monitor the shades on your cheeks look different. Thanks. 🙂
It’s the cheek facing you that is showing the product featured in the post!
Not sure why Chanel decided to do a contour + blush duo (this one) and a highlighter + blush duo (the other in the collection). It would have made more sense to do a contour + highlighter duo in my opinion! Anyways, I swatched both at a counter and I found the pigmentation a bit lacking.
I think if they had more of a sheen in this one, it might work as a contouring/highlighting option for deeper skin tones!
A very average product for such an expensive price. There are much better ones around.
So well said!
I have both and IMO its pretty decent. I will give it one more try since I bought the Les Beiges powder before and returned it. Thanks Christine!!
No problem, Jessy!
I just go this.. Might return it. Not so much for the texture for me but more so the very low grade ingredients. The other Les powders do not contain paragon this one does.. weird
That is very weird!
Hi Christine, how do think this would work as a all over bronzer on light neutral skin? Love your make up look it that blue is stunning on you.
I think it could definitely work as a bronzer!
