Zoeva Matte Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Matte
Zoeva Matte Eyeshadow Palette ($26.50 for 0.50 oz.) includes ten warm-toned, matte eyeshadows housed in a slim, cardboard palette. The eyeshadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” and “easy to blend.” Overall, the eyeshadow formula was pigmented, silky, blendable, and long-wearing. It was an easy palette to apply, use, and wear, and the shades coordinated with each other well. It is going to work best for someone who likes richer, warmer shades along with matte finishes; it would also work as a complementary palette to a more shimmer-heavy palette to add more versatile transition and crease shades. There were two shades that could have applied better and been less powdery, though they were workable and if you normally use primer, the shortcomings were even less apparent.

Nighthawks
Nighthawks is a light, yellowed beige with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good pigmentation with a smooth, lightly dusty texture that applied well to the lid and did not sheer out too easily, so while it felt dusty, it never looked or acted that way in practice. This shade lasted for seven and a half hours on me.

Urban Culture
Urban Culture is a muted, medium brown with warm, yellow undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was smooth, soft, and finely-milled but had substance, which helped it adhere well to bare skin with smooth, even, and opaque color coverage. The color wore for a solid eight hours before fading on me.

Cheap Bar
Cheap Bar is a muted, medium-dark reddish brown with subtle, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. The eyeshadow had a subtle sheen to it–not quite as flat or as matte as other shades in the palette–but was still fairly matte. It had rich, opaque color payoff paired with a soft, silky, and blendable consistency that was a touch dusty in the pan but not on the lid. This shade wore nicely for eight hours before fading.

Lonely City
Lonely City is a deep, reddish plum with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, which was buildable to opaque coverage in two layers. The texture was more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, and more prone to having some fallout during application if I wasn’t very careful about applying it. It wore well for seven and a half hours before fading on me.

Two Clocks
Two Clocks is a deep, taupe brown with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. It had medium, buildable color payoff that could have applied more evenly to bare skin. When I used it as a crease shade, it seemed to apply and look better overall than it did when I tried patting it on the lid–I think the necessary opacity made it more obvious where it fell short. This shade wore well for just over eight hours on me.

The colours in this palette just speak to me on an emotional level haha! It’s too bad the colours aren’t as bright or as pigmented as the palette make it seem to be!
I’m sorry it didn’t catch your eye afterall!
This reminds me of the Kat von D Ladybird palette. For the price, this looks like a great buy…I might have to get this. I love warm mattes, and anything with orange, burgundy, plum, warm beige, etc. shades looks good with my coloring (dark warm brown hair and hazel eyes).
It is a gorgeous set of shades!
I’d be interested if I weren’t already committed to buying Viseart warm mattes palette. Warm neutrals are my core, and so the most consistent high quality through the palette is the best option for me. But this keeps Zoeva on my radar for other things.
Zoeva has some nice stuff! 🙂
This is gorgeous. I love it. And it’s fairly priced. But…. I’m not really itching to buy it for some reason. I guess because I have some warm neutrals that mimic some of the high points here. MAC Red Brick, Deep Damson, MUG Desert Sands and Cocoa Bear. I might need MUG Chickadee tho!
You sound covered 😀
I’m really tempted to try one (or more) of their cooler-toned palettes!
Have you had to pay customs duties on the palettes you’ve ordered?
I haven’t! I believe in the U.S. as long as the total is under $800 it’s fine if I recall correctly from Selfridge’s policy!
Cool! Thank you. I think I’m going to try one… or more, with a $9 flat shipping rate… now, how to chose? 😉
…and another Modern Renaissance “spin off”….as I said the other day, if this continues, I’ll be saving a lot of money since I’ve already got my “red/orange” eyeshadow needs (which are few) well covered by things like Vice3 and KvD Monarch and Shade+Light. There are a few cooler tones in this one that are quite inviting (Two Clocks, Lost in Thoughts, Across the Street) but I have dupes for them. But for those who really thrive in these sorts of shades, it’s so nice to see these collections coming out from several companies. But, like I say, if this trend continues, I’m gonna be saving a lot – maybe I’ll put it toward building a real estate portfolio 😉
Maybe the next palette to sweep the industry will be right up your alley 😉
Thankfully I have dupes similar to all of these shades except Two Clocks. But, this is a really nice palette.
Cheap Bar is my favorite out of the palette, I’ve been loving colors like that lately.
I also love the eye look you created Christine!
Thank goodness for dupes 😀
Duped up again! Between having ABH MR palette, plus so many of the super warrm or neutral MAC Pro pan shadows, it happened again! But for those who do not own a virtual motherlode of very warm heavy neutals and bright warms too, this looks quite nice really. Well, except for the last 2 shades. Good matte auxiliary palette.
It would be a good, all-in-one warm palette for someone without any yet!
Awesome!!! 🙂
Yay!
2x C+s, and it still gets an A-? What that says to me is very strong rest of the palette! Already have the 2 Zoeva redder pencils, and the light neutral ones..and no Mod Ren (yet). This is rapidly gaining front burner status. Very nice, I’d do it year round, but what a fall palette! Beautiful! Haven’t checked dupes yet. Hope it is’t highly represented in the stash….
It does scream fall — there’s a rusty vibe throughout it!
I have dupes galore for all these shades, but glad it got a great score for those interested!
Phew!
Iv been planning a zoeva order since Christmas. And I would use all but one shade here! I might have to seriously think about this!!
I’m trying to build up my matte collection, because I have just SO many shimmers in my collection!! 😛
Wow! 9 out of 10 is awesome!
It looks like a beautiful palette.
It is!
It has a Modern Renaissance feel to it. I’m wondering how it compares?
There are similarities, but this palette is warmer and more orange-based.
I don’t need more matte shadows atm, but if I did I would definitely be considering this palette. I tend to use primer anyway, so I think I could work around the fallout issues.
At least the last two were workable overall!
Christine – have you had to deal with extra fees when ordering overseas from Zoeva? It’s something that’s held me back from ordering. I’m not sure it’s consistent across all states? Im not sure but wow this palette looks too good to pass up!
I haven’t ordered in awhile, but I have placed two or three orders in the last couple of years and did not have any fees beyond the shipping fee (which is high, as it is flat rate, so my orders were usually $200ish).
Love this brand! Their eyeshadows are the best. I currently own 6 or 7 and love them all. My favorite is probably Cocoa Blend 🙂
Nice! 😀
Not a bad palette at all. It’s quite inexpensive as well. I think I might get this for exactly the reasons you mentioned. Compliment, crease, transition. Yes!
Enjoy, Helene!
This is a really decent matte palette of all the rich orangey red shades that are so popular at the moment. I guess the biggest disappointment is Two Clocks. Lonely City is also a tad patchy, but with primer it would be OK.
Lovely eye look Christine.
Thank you, Genevieve!
Hi Christine! How would this compare to the ELF Mad for Matte 2 palette? Colors are similar based from the pictures.
Sorry, I don’t have that.
Nice to see Zoeva does eye shadow so well!
They do!
What a gorgeous palette!
It is!
Two Clocks was so perfect in the pan!
Awww!
This morning I woke up to an email that this was back in stock on the Zoeva website. I am in the market for some matte warm neutrals and my heart gravitates towards orange/reddy tones so I am excited to get this! My love of makeup has recently reawakened and I am pretty much starting from scratch so I feel this will be an excellent (and affordable) building block for my collection 🙂
