Wet ‘n’ Wild Desert Explorations Geometric Highlighting Powder
Wet ‘n’ Wild Geometric Highlighting Powder ($4.99 for 0.20 oz.) is a new, limited edition highlighting formula for spring that will be available at local drugstores and mass retailers while supplies last. The formula is supposed to be “long-lasting” with a “silky-smooth texture that is easy to blend.” The texture of the three powders is soft, slightly looser in the pan than ideal (some excess gets kicked up), with medium, buildable coverage and a pearly shimmer. All three shades lasted right around the seven-hour mark for me. They’re nice, and at the price point, some of the more flattering highlighters I’ve tried from the drugstore (often, they are too sparkly/metallic!). I wish Wet ‘n’ Wild would add these or something like it to their permanent range. Good luck hunting these down!
Wet ‘n’ Wild Desert Explorations Geometric Highlighting Powder ($4.99 for 0.20 oz.) is a light, pastel pink with warm undertones and a pearly shimmer. It had semi-opaque, buildable coverage with a luminous sheen that didn’t emphasize pores. The texture is slightly powdery to work with, but it didn’t look powdery when I applied it to my cheeks. It may add a hint of color on very fair skin tones. This shade wore for seven hours on me. MAC Play It Proper (LE, $22.00) is lighter, cooler (95% similar). Burberry No. 03 Pink Pearl (P, $68.00) is darker (95% similar). ColourPop Just for Us (P, $7.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). NARS Devotee (PiP, ) is more shimmery (95% similar). Wet ‘n’ Wild Sun Ceremony Geometric Highlighting Powder ($4.99 for 0.17 oz.) is a light-medium, yellow gold with strong yellow tones (but no orange tones, so it looks almost like a “cool” gold) and a smooth, frosted shimmer. It blended out easily and applied with semi-opaque coverage that could be diffused or built-up for lesser or greater coverage as desired. The powder is a little powdery to work with, and it just made the skin look ever-so-slightly powdery when applied. A little extra buffing helped to work the powder into the skin and leave a pearly sheen behind instead (that didn’t emphasize pores). It wore for seven hours on me. ColourPop School is Fun (LE, $10.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). ColourPop Thimble (LE, $10.00) is more muted (95% similar). Smashbox Turn It On Pearl (PiP, ) is more shimmery, lighter (95% similar). MAC Gimme That! (LE, $34.00) is darker (95% similar). Tarte Burst (PiP, ) is lighter (95% similar). Smashbox Glow (LE, ) is less shimmery (90% similar). Charlotte Tilbury Gold Bar (LE, ) is cooler (95% similar). NARS Noctum (LE, ) is more muted, warmer (90% similar). Urban Decay No Angel (LE, $26.00) is more shimmery, lighter, warmer (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Black Bloom (LE, $80.00) is darker (90% similar). ColourPop Double Down (LE, $10.00) is more muted (90% similar). Makeup Revolution Golden Kiss (P, $9.00) is darker (90% similar). MAC Way Fresh (PiP, $34.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). ColourPop Drop a Pin (LE, $10.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Hourglass Pure Strobe Light (LE, ) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Givenchy African Light Gold (LE, $41.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Laura Mercier Translucent (P, $38.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. Wet ‘n’ Wild Where the Dreamers Go Geometric Highlighting Powder ($4.99 for 0.20 oz.) is a pink-tinged white with subtle, cool undertones and a frosted sheen. This was the most shimmery/metallic of the three. It had medium coverage that was buildable to opaque payoff if desired, but the lightly powdery, smooth texture made it easy to diffuse and blend on the skin. The shimmer didn’t emphasize pores either, which is always nice. This shade lasted for seven hours before fading. Urban Decay Luminous (P, $28.00) is less shimmery, cooler (95% similar). Makeup Revolution Ever Glow Lights (P, $6.00) is less shimmery, warmer (95% similar). NARS Summer Dual Intensity Blush I (LE, ) is more shimmery (95% similar). NYX Liquid Prism (P, $6.99) is less shimmery (95% similar). NYX Moon Glow (P, $6.99) is less shimmery (95% similar). ColourPop S'il Vous Play (DC, $12.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Oh I like how Sun Ceremony is a cool toned yellow gold! It can be really hard to find gold highlighters that aren’t warm or bronzy, not too many close dupes for this one. Will buy if I can find it. The geometric embossing reminds me of Cle de Peau highlighters. And I like how Where the Dreamers go is a dupe for many HE brands that cost multiples more
The design is very reminiscent of the Cle de Peau highlighters, though I think the formulas aren’t as comparable (these have a lot more shimmer/color/coverage to them)!
Oooh!!! Sun Ceremony looks perfect for us somewhat darker skintones! And also thinking that Desert Exploration would work nicely up to possibly an NC42? Or NW35? Not sure about that one as much as Sun Ceremony, though. Love all 3, except they forsake the opportunity to offer a highlighter for those darker than a dark end of medium going into tan skintone. There ought to have at least been a coppery or rusty-rose edition!
There could have definitely been one darker shade!
I’m totally into the gold one but LE displays at my local drugstores are a total crap shoot. Any idea when these will release? Like, during this month or…?
I don’t have a specific date, only spring, and my guess is now or in the next month. I have the same luck as you at my local drugstores, though I have not extensively checked since I have moved (only in the first month or so).
I’m impressed by the scores and what they’re good dupes for. If I wasn’t after specific highlighters and was in the market for a budget one, I’d go for these.
Thanks for the review Christine!
No problem, Val! I like them a lot!
Where the dreamers go is right up my alley!!
Yay!
Nice! I wish their LE stuff weren’t so LE. You have to hit the store at just the right time or miss out, because each place gets three or four.
So true! I wish they’d start selling their LE items online :/ It’s a bigger time sink trying to catch drugstore LEs than high-end LEs!
Slap store silly. Run. Toss extra pale dreamer my way. eBay will triple price pulling a NATASHA DENONA. Hit hard! When every store I drag my bum to does not have it. Doesn’t exist. LE means just kidding. ?
If this is the only item type in the collection, your luck may be better. They did some 6-pan eyeshadows last spring which weren’t as scarce as some other collections had been, since the only thing in the display were the eyeshadows.
The Star Wars Cover Girl stuff was the worst. It popped up in other areas months before I ever saw it in mine, and several stores only had one display with only two of several lipsticks in it. I think I’ve finally gotten all the shades I wanted, but I accidentally bought one twice because I’d conditioned myself to pounce on any display I found immediately.
I hear you about the Star Wars. I had to order all the lipsticks online, from three different places.
Haha! I like the “Good luck hunting these down” remark!
I will certainly grab them if I see them. But, I’m not one to go on a wild goose chase. It is funny how they resemble the Cle de peau luminizers!
Fingers crossed you might find ’em, Nicole!
OO.. A pale one. I must hire someone to slap me anytime I think to buy another highlighter. “Just because it is less expensive is not excuse.” ? “It’s for feet. Swear.” ?
You have dupes!
Dear Wet n Wild. There are medium-dark skinned people. NYX expands range. Be like NYX 🙂
Hopefully they will!
I hope these will find their way to Italy, although if they are limited addition I doubt it. Wait and see I guess!
Fingers crossed for you, Vivi 🙂
Looks like really good quality!!! Kind of Cle de peau highlighter!
It’s nice! 🙂
What nice highlighters! Pretty all three, but I’d love to get my hands on Where the Dreamers Go. Not much of a chance of that happening, though.
I can’t remember seeing W’n’W here for years and decades. I think I’ll check some online stores.
So sad 🙁
Just beautiful colours -especially the gold one. Great ratings, great price – what’s not to love?
Exactly 😀
Wow these are quite beautiful! Sun Ceremony is definitely my fave as I love a good gold highlight. I’ve been trying to hold off on buying new ones but this has a more unique feel to it versus the more bronzey ones I own. I hate tracking down LE drugstore products though so I’m hoping this won’t be too painful to find here
Oh, I feel you, Fancie!! Trying to find LE drugstore stuff can be a nightmare, lol!
I’m pleased that they came out with one that’s actually cool-toned, and decent quality, too! Now, if only someone would come out with a cool-toned highlighter that’s not quite so bright/white!
One day, Fran!
i need them all , especially sun ceremony !
Enjoy, Nicole 🙂
I kind of want Where The Dreamers Go just for the name ? So cute!
Aww!
Both of these are likely to be too pale for me, unfortunately. xP
Totally understand, Vijaya! They definitely could have done a darker one.
OH i saw these at Walgreens yesterday! I’m gonna have to give them a shot.
Nice!
Impressive. They look like Jouer’s highlighters!
I haven’t tried Jouers before so good to know!
Pretty! I think I like Sun Ceremony best. But I also love how radiant you look with Wear The Dreamers Go.
Thank you!
They look good for DS highlighters! I like Sun Ceremony on you. I don’t have a white highlighter, the last one looks ideal, if only we had WnW in the UK! I might get Becca’s Pearl or NYX’s Ice instead.
Pearl is very nice, though quite shimmery if you’re not careful 🙂
Wow! I am excited about these! I rarely see drugstore highlighters that I think would work ( I agree that usually they are far too glittery). Desert Explorations is even a shade that I’ve been looking to add to my collection. Now if only I can get my hands on one.
I hope you can find them, Valerie!
Mmph. Major CdP vibes!! It’s too bad that the formulas aren’t similar, but I’m definitely going to look for these this afternoon!! Fingers crossed 😉
They look similar for sure! I had secretly hoped they were more similar on, lol 😉
Just picked up two of these from Walgreens! Really excited to try 🙂
Awesome! Happy to hear they’re in-stores now.
‘Where the Dreamers Go’ is SO PRETTY!!!
It must be added to my collection. MUST. The others are gorgeous, too – and DO WANT – but ‘Where the Dreamers Go’ is ab absolute must for me.
I hope you can get it, Stephie!
I picked up Where the Dreamers Go today at my Walgreens. They had all three highlighting powders, plus new colorful liquid liners and two new LE shadow trios where new products are placed by the door. Looking forward to trying it out!
So glad you found them, Sarah!
Nice. I love gold especially since it’s a cooler yellow. I think they remind me quite a bit of the CdP. Since they are so inexpensive, I’ll pick one up if I see them.
Hope you can track ’em down, Erin!
From the pan I would never think that Desert Explorations would look so nice on the skin. Want!
They were a lot less sparkly than you’d expect!
Any ideas on when these will launch? I’ve been stalking my local stores to no avail.
Readers have mentioned finding them in-store already!
I think its so funny that other reviewers online have pretty much said these suck! I bought them on the recommendation from this review and I love them! I love that they are a more “gentle” highlighter but still buildable. I don’t like looking like I have a stripe of metalllic looking skin and these just make my skin glow a little extra wherever I put them!
That’s interesting! They are certainly not the most overt, but they seemed like a moderate highlighter – definitely easy to use. I was pleasantly surprised, so I am happy to hear that you liked them as well, Catie!
I found where the dreamers go and bought it.
Yay!
