Urban Decay Revolution Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches (Vamps)

Urban Decay Venom Lipstick
Urban Decay Venom Lipstick

This is the last post looking at Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.09 oz.), and it features the deeper, darker shades within the shade range. Please see part one for a more in-depth review of the formula overall.

Venom Lipstick ($22.00) is described as a “bright plum.” It’s a rich, deepened berry-red with a violet and fuchsia shimmer. It had mostly opaque color coverage. It wore for six and a half hours and left a stain behind. Tom Ford Violet Fatale is lighter, brighter. MAC Rebel is slightly brighter. NARS Valparaiso is more matte, less bright. See comparison swatches.

Shame Lipstick ($22.00) is described as a “deep berry.” It’s a deep, dark reddened burgundy with subtle hints of brown and ruby shimmer. This was my least favorite shade across the range because it really lacked the quality of the line in general; it was streaky, uneven, and had a tendency to feather after four hours of wear. The shade lasted well for six and a half hours and left an enduring stain behind, but the feathering (which is rare on me) was disappointing. MAC Soulfully Rich is darker, browner. MAC Endless Drama is warmer. MAC What Joy is lighter, redder. Guerlain Gigolo is brighter. Guerlain Orgueil is lighter, redder. OCC Black Dhalia is darker, less red. Burberry Bright Plum is much lighter and brighter. See comparison swatches.

Rapture Lipstick ($22.00) is described as a “dusty rose.” It’s a pinky-plum with a glossy shine. It had full, opaque color coverage and applied smoothly. It wore four and a half hours when I tested it. Tom Ford Casablanca is more muted, less pink. MAC Red Dwarf is darker. Chanel Destinee is more muted. See comparison swatches.

Manic Lipstick ($22.00) is described as a “soft wine.” It’s a bold, brightened plummy red with a soft pink shimmer. It had rich, full coverage color payoff that applied smoothly and evenly. This shade wore well for five hours when I tried it. MAC Heaux is cooler-toned, matte. Chanel Fiction is lighter. NARS Palais Royal is more berry-colored. Giorgio Armani #406 is similar, less shimmery. See comparison swatches.

I was actually really disappointed that you didn’t say it was a shame that it didn’t perform so well. Then again, I’m a sucker for bad puns

Of all the colors I was most interested in Maniac, Rapture, Venom, and Strip, so it’s good to see these grades and that I don’t really own dupes of any of them.

This has just made my day. I was so sure that Urban Decay had simply discontinued their lipstick because it was taking so long to relaunch. I absolutely need Liar, Shame, Naked 2, Native, and Rapture. Need. O_O

Georgia Avatar

OMG!!! I’m so happy that UD is finally bringing back their lipsticks! I can’t wait to buy them! Is rapture similar to UD’s vintage lipstick in Naked?

I’ll definitely be getting Rapture, it’s such a perfect color for everyday. Too bad about Shame, it’s such a gorgeous color, especially for Fall but the performance is putting me off. I think I’d rather just suck it up and order OCC Black Dahlia instead.

Ugh Shame is my favorite kind of red. It sucks that not many companies make such dark saturated reds that aren’t too berry or plum. Loving Rapture too.

I don’t know if you’ve ever used one before, but is the formula of these at all similar to YSL’s Rouge Volupte Shines (not the regular RV’s)?

Christine Avatar

I might have tried one, but I’m blanking, though I’m familiar enough with the type of formula that is and I can’t imagine this would actually be comparable, since the Shines would have a slippery, thinner formula – kind of balm-like. It would compare better with the regular Rouge Voluptes, but the texture isn’t as thick or as heavy – and not as slippery.

Yellowlantern Avatar

Ah, okay. Thanks for the comparison.

I’m a fan of the RVS formula (I just wish they were 10-15 dollars cheaper) so I was sort of hoping the formulas would be similar. I’m not too keen on the original RV’s since I think they feel a bit thick on the lips for my taste. Good to know these aren’t as thick or slippery as the RV’s. I’ll keep these in the back of my mind to see if they still hold my interest later. Thanks again for the comparison. 🙂

I haven’t tried the Color Whispers, but to me Lip Butters feel pretty different from RVS’s.

Lip Butters are thicker (not super thick, but noticeably thicker than RVS which is a very thin, lip hugging formula IMO), more movable on the lips, and RVS last a minimum of four hours on me even lasting though a couple cups of coffee and leave a stain while LBs last about an hour or two depending on color with no drinking or eating before the wear starts to look uneven.

I like my LBs for the price, but for anyone reading this I’ll just say that in my opinion LBs are not a formula dupe of RVS.

Agreed! I love this type of red, but no one makes it, and it’s always hard to explain what I want when I am in Sephora.

The two I’ve singled out for my first buys are, Venom and Streak. I don’t have a deep “Severine” plum lip color in my collection, and I’ve wanted one ever since I saw “Skyfall”. And now I can get it from my favorite makeup company. I don’t have a lovely peach color either, hence Streak. I’m so glad UD has been stepping up their lip products. I had Lovechild in the old lipstick formula and it was horribly runny. But then I tried it in the Super Saturated formula and it applied perfectly and didn’t bleed everywhere. And now Streak has received a better rating from you than the new Lovechild did, so I’m really looking forward to these.

Shame is really a vampy color, i like it. I was just wondering, how is it compared to MAC Dark Deed from venomous villains collection?? Thanks in advance!

Mae-Gwynne Avatar

Thanks Urban Decay, just when I was trying to save money… I’m really disappointed Shame isn’t a good performer as it’s the kind of colour I wear frequently. Rapture looks beautiful, though. I’m excited to see more reviews.

Julia Avatar

Despite the low rating I decided to go ahead and get Shame because it’s the type of red that I really gravitate to and get attention in. If I’m getting Shame do I need Dark Deed? I’ve been stalking it on Ebay for a little over a month now.

Randee Avatar

How would you compare “Shame” to Bobbi Brown’s “black cherry” from their black velvet collection? I’m torn between “venom” and “shame” but am leaning more towards “shame” because I loved the “black cherry” and want something similar. Thanks!

dayna Avatar

Love them but I can’t wrap my head around the price. Not for a lipstick. Even with some sort of Friends and Family sale or discount, I still wouldn’t. Pretty to look at. 🙂
