Honey Pot

Urban Decay Honey Pot Holiday 2019 Makeup Set ($59.00 for 1.61 oz.) is a new, limited edition set that includes a miniature-sized setting spray and primer potion along with a six-pan eyeshadow palette and full-sized pencil eyeliner.

The eyeshadows were on the drier side and would work better with an eyeshadow primer underneath them, though the one included in the set had a deeper color and more sparkly finish, which I didn’t think worked well for enhancing matte finishes. The pencil performed consistently with the formula: pigmented, comfortable to apply, and longer-wearing.

Honey

Honey is a brighter, medium-dark golden copper with warm undertones and a sparkling, golden shimmer-sheen finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable coverage applied directly from the tube, and it sheered out when applied and blended out with fingertips to more medium coverage. The shimmer/sparkles dispersed fairly well and didn’t clump up.

I found that the glitter in the base made it a bit odd to use a primer, as mattes didn’t apply that well over it, but it could enhance the finish and deepen/add warmth to some shimmer shades. It seemed better to think of it as more of a cream eyeshadow, though. The formula dried down quickly but remained flexible so it didn’t suffer from flaking.

It improved the wear of more satin to shimmery formulas to really solid, 14-hour wear but I definitely got some creasing after that (it’s purported to have 24-hour wear, sigh), but it was harder to work with more matte shades over it without them getting “eaten” to begin with.

Amber

Amber is a bright, medium copper with strong, warm golden undertones and a metallic finish paired with faint sparkle. It had nearly opaque color payoff in a single stroke, which adhered well and built up to full coverage with less than half of a layer on top. Applied in short, slightly overlapping strokes, I didn’t notice any sheerness. The texture was lightly emollient and glided comfortably across my lash line. It wore well for 10 hours before fading (thinning) a bit.

Formula Overview

$22.00/0.04 oz. - $550.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to go on "smoothly, stay soft and super-creamy for blending" before it "dries to a long-lasting finish that won't budge" with "intense" coverage. I'm a long-time fan and user of the formula--almost a decade now--and they're still a go-to. I keep a handful of formulas at my fingertips, and I have all of the shades from this range in a cup within reach.

It isn't the longest-wearing formula I've come across, but I find that it balances longevity with creaminess in application and ease of removal at the end. They also wear away "kindly," so while the line might get thinner, it doesn't drag or bleed toward my under eye area. The formula has solid, long-wear at eight to 10 hours before fading, thinning, or having a bit of migration to the outer corner. The less shimmery shades tend to have the most visible movement, whereas the more shimmery shades tend to fade or thin.

The pigmentation varies a lot from shade to shade with more matte shades often having the most coverage in a single layer, followed by more metallic finishes. The more glittery the finish, the weaker the coverage and application were. Many of the shades in the range are buildable and apply with near-to or opaque coverage when applied in short, overlapping strokes. The majority are very comfortable to apply on the lower lash line or waterline.

They have a creamy, glide-on consistency as promised, and they can be smudged or blended out, so they are particularly useful for someone who likes a more diffused look for their eyeliner.

As someone who has had a lot of these eyeliners over time, I can attest to the fact that they do not dry out readily. Some of the shades I have that I don't use (because they're THAT old) are still creamy and glide-on when swatched.

Urban Decay Honey All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray
Urban Decay Honey All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray

Honey is a new, limited edition honey-scented version of the brand’s All Nighter Setting Spray. It has a light-to-moderate scent of sweetened honey, more on the synthetic side, that lingers for a half hour to an hour to my nose (though my allergies have been on and off lately, so I don’t consider my nose to be that useful at the moment).

I am, generally, a fan of All Nighter as it does extend the wear of my makeup by several hours (actual extension really depends on how it’s all applied, what type of products I’m wearing, etc.). It doesn’t feel sticky or heavy once it dries down, and it has helped take down any too-matte effect of setting powders (if desired).

Glazed

Glazed is a medium-dark, rosy copper base with a gold-to-green shifting shimmer. It had opaque pigmentation with a slightly drier, thinner texture that had to be used with a heavier hand and slight jabbing motions to get product to evenly adhere to my brush. The color stayed on well for seven and a half hours before fading visibly.

Formula Overview

$19.00/0.05 oz. - $380.00 Per Ounce

The formula is typically described as "high-pigment" that "stays on your lids" and goes on "seamlessly." Their permanent range has a lot of fantastic shades in it, and many of them are pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing. Some of their matte are real workhorse kind of shades with soft, smooth, silky, and blendable textures, while their shimmers and pearly shades are very rich in payoff and apply beautifully to the lid. They wear between seven and nine hours on me, depending on the shade and finish.

Buzzed

Buzzed is a medium, golden bronze with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. The texture was soft, slightly drier with some powderiness in the pan and fallout during application, but was blendable and wasn’t prone to sheering out. It had opaque pigmentation that wore nicely for seven and a half hours on me before fading noticeably.

Drizzle

Drizzle is a muted, light-medium yellow with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage with a soft, lightly powdery texture that was prone to sheering out. I would be careful applying this toward the end of application if it is going on the brow bone or above the crease. It lasted well for seven hours before I noticed some fading.

Stix is a brighter, light-medium tangerine orange with strong, warm yellow undertones and a matte finish. It had excellent pigmentation with a soft, slightly drier and dustier texture, but it applied without sheering out too much and could be built back up to full coverage with less than half of a layer. Stun is a medium, golden bronze with subtle, warm olive undertones and a frosted finish. I actually am not usually a huge fan of UD other than Bron to Run, as the Naked palettes are too similar and too neutral for my taste. I hadn’t heard anything about this kit, but happened upon it while on Ulta’s site contemplating if I wanted the Naked Honey palette since I love bees and honey lol. The mini palette in this kit looked more unique than the full sized palette and so I bought it and I love it so much I just gifted a kit to a friend! The colors are actually all unique to each other as far as the 6 colors go and I have worn it several times and am happy I decided to buy it! I have yet to wear the full sized palette though. I also liked the eye pencil and the lightly scented spray, but I agree the primer seemed like an odd one to be able to use with mattes, as I always use the Nars primer that dries clear.

Genevieve Avatar

I find this palette and set a bit strange: first of all is the primer potion the colour of amber – gorgeous shade by the way, but I think it should be a clear liquid/cream.
Secondly both the shades Buzzed and Stun are exact dupes of each other in the same six pan…… A gorgeous pop of olive gold would have added some depth here. And one of the mattes is definitely orangey.
All in all, it is not a strong little number in terms of ratings either.
Thank you Christine for the review, I think it has helped us decide one way or the other about whether to purchase or not.

Mariella Avatar

The “up side” of a tinted eyeshadow primer is that it can intensify the shadows you put on top, if they’re a bit lacking (I use UD Sin Primer Potion under shadows like MAC Tempting for this reason) and you can also use them pretty much like a cream shadow, all on their own, and they last all day (I also do this with Sin PP).

kjh Avatar

Most of us are sufficiently gilded, methinks. And it’s funny how perception changes. 6shades is now a mini, and everything below it is by number, quads, quints, duos, trios. IPL, a 6 pan was huge. We quaked in our boots to think of using 6shadows. Now the average seems to be 10-12-14. I wonder if the liner will be available separately?

Mariella Avatar

My eye immediately gravitated to one colour – STUN – and then I saw that it’s a shade I already have (I think it’s in that great little Naked on the Run palette from years ago). I’ve also got Ritzy and Deeper so I guess I’m a sucker for that sort of colour but nothing else in this appeals to me. For people looking for a small, warm palette and a few extras, I can see this being something to get excited about, though. The scent of the All Nighter would really put me off – I really loathe the smell of honey!

Rachel R. Avatar

I got this set and used a reward I had to make it less expensive. I was curious to try the glittery primer. I’m actually quite happy if it’ll work as a stay-put cream eyeshadow, and it should intensify the metallics on my lids. I’m fine using regular primer on my crease for the mattes. We’ll see if I like it in practice!

I think the palette is really pretty. I think Buzzed and Stun are different enough that I wouldn’t call them dupes (on my skin tone, at least). Kind of similar if one is looking for something in one’s stash, but not so similar that they are duped within the palette, if that makes sense.

I think the eyeliner is utterly gorgeous, and I love it. Too bad that UD didn’t offer it separately. I think it would have been a big hit.
