Violet Argente

Tom Ford Beauty Violet Argente Eye & Cheek Palette ($155.00 for 0.45 oz.) contains four eyeshadows and two cheek colors. Two of the eyeshadows are nice enough, and the highlighting shade was excellent, but the rest were nowhere the quality level one would expect of a luxury brand or at this price point.

Violet Argente (Blush)

Violet Argente (Blush) is a medium pink with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had medium pigmentation that was buildable to semi-opaque coverage on the cheeks with two to three layers. The texture was soft, lightly dusty, but not too thin or too thick, and it blended out easily on the skin. It wore well for seight hours on me.

Violet Argente #1 (Eye Color)

Violet Argente #1 (Eye Color) is a pale pink with pink micro-sparkle over a matte base. The eyeshadow was moderately powdery and drier, so it was prone to sheering out and had fallout during application. The sparkles did not bind with the base, so it was mostly matte in terms of functionality on the eye. It lasted for seven hours on me.

Violet Argente #2 (Eye Color)

Violet Argente #2 (Eye Color) is medium-dark pink with subtle, warm undertones and a frosted finish. It had opaque pigmentation with a soft, slightly denser texture that was still easy to pickup with a brush and blend out on the skin. It wore well for eight hours on me.

Violet Argente #3 (Eye Color)

Violet Argente #3 (Eye Color) is a medium brown with warm undertones and a pearl finish. The pigmentation was nearly opaque, while the consistency was soft, blendable, and finely-milled without sheering out too readily. It stayed on well for seven and a half hours on me.

Violet Argente #4 (Eye Color)

Violet Argente #4 (Eye Color) is a medium-dark purple with warmer undertones and a sparkling, metallic sheen. The texture was denser and drier, and I found this shade exceptionally difficult to apply to the lid with brushes or even fingertips, and it was a real challenge to blend out, particularly as it was much thicker compared to the other powders in the palette so it did not layer well with them. It started to flake off my lid after six hours of wear.

Violet Argente (Highlighter)

Violet Argente (Highlighter) is a muted, light-medium pink with strong, warm undertones and a pearly sheen. The texture was smooth, almost cream-like, and a cinch to blend out on the skin. It had opaque coverage that stayed on well for eight hours on me.

Epic epic fail. U can almost get two viseart palettes or the grand pro palette for almost this price. This is unacceptable for that price point.

You research a car and its insurance to death. You research your food shopping. In short, you do your homework for everything except makeup? Enough vloggers are so impressed by TF, that it HAS to be good. There will be gushing and adoration. Except for the potential brand clients that read T and know the true score. And that’s F on the namesake shade. As long as the vloggers and consumers hold sway, this kind of sub par HE offering will stay that way. More’s the pity.

And what’s argente about it? If you intend to use a fashionable tongue that isn’t your lingua franca, at least know what the £^€k it means. And that’s SILVER. Anyone see any silver? In addition to being a poor performer, I find that pretentious.

I hate/love Tom Ford. I would think he is the most pretentious arse on the planet, but then.. his movies always manage to be visually stunning and contain *gasp* actual philosophical substance. I’m off on a tangent here and agree 100% with what you say regarding this palette and the TF culture with emphasis on ‘cult’..
I’ve read the novella which inspired the movie Nocturnal Animals, and TF pulled out depth beyond the literature for the key characters. Most peeps would hate the movie, but I found it profound; the ending tantilizingly open. I love Amy Adams and find her portrayal of a provleged, wealthy, but very empty woman positively aching and haunting.
Apologies for serious off topic for others reading this, but everytime I think I entirely despise Tom Ford and his beautiful world, he knocks one out of the park for me artistically and displays more consciousness than I would expect from the exalted.
This palette sucks tho.. ?

Can I just say, Wwendy, that I love your prose! 🙂 I love your choice of adjectives to convey your thoughts; it makes it so interesting to read (sorry, studied literature and art and was once in creative writing).

Thanks Chritine! For me, my emotional response to art, literature, film, music frequently feels like a giant ball of indigestion sitting upon my chest and I struggle to make sense of it and do justice to the creator by putting fitting words to it. I’m humbled by people with the talent to do this more freely and naturally.

Now I want to read nocturnal animals, then watch it. Speaking of pursuits and pomposity, I have an interest in the structure of the intellect. TF would be a fascinating study. Just from the sensory points of view. His scents speak, somewhat synesthetic. But they aren’t ‘concept scents,’ like Brosius, at all. TF’s m/u elevates itself by a good overlay of touch/feel on a color choice, and how cohesive the color story is. When they work, they are truly top flight. And then, there’s this palette. Gotta see some film.

That purple eyeshadow looked SO promising and desirable. That palette is $186 here in Canada and there is just no way I’d pay that for something that C and F rated products in it. These are also all so “dupe-able”. Tom Ford has a bloody nerve expecting women to part with serious cash for something this mediocre.

Genevieve Avatar

Woah! That’s pretty average, isn’t it? The first blush is a lovely shade, but to require 2-3 layers to get it looking like it does on your cheeks Christine, is pretty poor. My Natio Sunkissed blush/highlighter, which retails for under $20, works better than this one.
The shades in the palette are pretty, but why the brown colour? It looks out of place and you wouldn’t use it if you were doing a purple look – and an F for the purple shade too.
A complete waste of money.

Ugh. I got this palette expressly for that purple and rose shade. Back it goes once received. Beyond disappointed as I love these palettes but an F in one of the vibrant shades is a deal breaker.

Silvia Avatar

Love the shades! But I’m trying to be good until after Christmas. Glad it got an F so temptation is less but looks beautiful! Awww! The colors I look forward to.

Christina Avatar

A pity that all the shades don’t apply well. It’s a really love look on you, and the colours are shades I would reach for often. It’s hard to justify it at this price point, though.

Summer_Breeze Avatar

Oh dear, I bought this palette and am waiting for it to arrive! An F for the purple, that’s the color I like most! I hope this palette isn’t a huge disappointment!

J Avatar

I bought this during the first round of VIB Rouge sale – dunno now if I should even swatch it or just return it unopened! I have both of last years palettes and wanted to compare the ratings you gave those. Bot the warm & cool were A- so B- is REALLY bad, LOL.

Mine arrived today (ordered it from Selfridges in the UK). I like it! I couldn’t work the purple shade to start with until I tried a couple of different brushes and struck gold with the Wayne Goss 19 and 5. Both do the job perfectly and make application easy – I think a stiffer, but non-synthetic, brush is definitely needed. The purple shade is gorgeous – its got a duo chrome shift to it and is very flattering on the lids – I have brown eyes and it really makes my eyes pop. The rose eyeshadow shade is beautiful too. The highlighter is amazing and I’m quite happy to have a muted warm pink blush in this palette as I don’t actually have anything like this in my collection. The only shade I’m not overwhelmed by is the brown – its a bit of a nothing shade, is very sheer, and quite frankly Tom Ford could do much better than this considering the quality of his eyeshadows in his usual 4 pan palettes. But overall, I’m quite pleased with this palette.

Meiko Avatar

I know I’m not in the majority here, but I actually really love this palette! Bought it mainly for the purple and deep pink shade. I use my finger and lightly tap the violet onto my lids to finish off the eye look, it leaves a beautiful sheen of violet shimmer without any fallout this way. This is how I apply any of his sparkly shadows. Also bought it with the 20% off sale so the price (still high) wasn’t as bad, I just treat myself to 1 TF product per year 🙂

Mine arrived earlier this week, and I have been using it non stop since then! I have had compliments from many of friends asking me what eyeshadow I was wearing.

I personally like everything in this palette including the purple one that had a F rate.
It is not pigmented for sure, but if you use the right brush, it gives the most beautiful purple shade with subtle soft violet shimmery, absolutely gorgeous! I like the way how it applies , but if you are looking for something very pigmented like ABH’s eyeshadow, then this particular shade is definitely not for you.

The brown eye shadow is also not as pigmented, but it’s very buildable and that is a bonus for me. I am not very good at those super pigmented eye shadow and often find myself too heavy hand.

I prefer a natural look with a bit of colour so this palette definitely met my high expectation. This is my first TF eye/cheek palette, and I am in love, I would be keen to buy more of these LE sets next year.

Mine arrived two days ago. I’m lighter-skinned, so the blush shows up well on me, and I used either a dry or damp sponge-tip applicator (have been finding them super-helpful lately, which puts me on a hunt for excellent quality ones… harder to find than you’d think) for the light pink and purple, which made them apply beautifully and last well.
