Tom Ford Soleil d'Ambre Eye & Cheek Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Soleil d'Ambre
Tom Ford Beauty Soleil d’Ambre Eye & Cheek Palette ($155.00 for 0.45 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette that contains four eyeshadows and two cheek colors (one blush, one highlighter). The highlighter stood out above all the other shades in the palette, which were more so-so and just not high-performing enough to be impressive.

Soleil d'Ambre (Blush)
Soleil d’Ambre (Blush) is a soft, medium-dark plum with warmer undertones and a satin sheen. It had good color payoff that was buildable to full coverage with a second layer. The texture was smooth and velvety to the touch but seemed a little drier on my skin as it took a little more effort to diffuse the edges. It wore well for nine hours on me before fading noticeably.

LELimited Edition. $60.00.
Soleil d'Ambre #1 (Eye Color)
Soleil d’Ambre #1 (Eye Color) is a soft, pale pink with warm undertones and a frosted shimmer. It had sheer coverage, did not build up, and did not improve over primer. The texture was drier and dusty, which may have been part of the reason the pigmentation was so poor. The color seemed to stay on (what little I could see) for around six and a half hours.

Soleil d'Ambre #2 (Eye Color)
Soleil d’Ambre #2 (Eye Color) is a light-medium gold with warm, brown undertones and a sparkling finish. It had semi-sheer pigmentation, which was only buildable if applied with a dampened brush. Based on my experience with the brand’s eyeshadows, I expect this is their ‘sheer sparkle” finish, so the sheerness wasn’t unexpected. The consistency has an almost wet-like feel to it, though it goes on like a powder. It lasted for eight hours but had some fallout over time.

Soleil d'Ambre #3 (Eye Color)
Soleil d’Ambre #3 (Eye Color) is a medium taupe-brown withh warm undertones and a satin sheen. The color payoff was opaque in a single layer, but the texture was drier and dustier, which resulted in some fallout during application. This shade stayed on well for seven hours on me.

Soleil d'Ambre #4 (Eye Color)
Soleil d’Ambre #4 (Eye Color) is a medium plum with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It had opaque pigmentation that applied fairly evenly onto the lid, but the texture was drier and stiffer to work with, and I found that it was harder to blend out seamlessly on my lid. It wore well for seven and a half hours on me before fading noticeably.

Soleil d'Ambre (Highlighter)
Soleil d’Ambre (Highlighter) is a light, golden peach with strong, warm undertones and a metallic sheen. The color payoff was fantastic, while the highlighter felt smooth, creamy, and blended out effortlessly on my skin. It stayed on well for nine hours before fading slightly.

Oh thank goodness! I was worried it would get an A+. I still wouldn’t have gotten it, but I would have felt I had missed out on something special.
LOL, I know just what you mean. And I guess I bear a bit of grudge against Tom Ford for pricing his stuff way up in the stratosphere. I mean, these aren’t illness-preventing drugs or anything – they’re cosmetics and often ones that easily bested by products costing much less (I’m thinking, for example, of UD’s Naked on the Run palette from a few years back)
I love the idea of a face and eye palette but at almost $190 here (plus taxes), well, that’s just insane! And for a fairly average rating and very dupe-able colours???? I’d sooner just build my own from products I already have or can buy as singles and do it for probably $60!!!
Really disappointing that the quality of the shades was so up and down. This is not what you would expect from such a HE brand as Tom Ford.
Gorgeous eye look Christine.
Whoa, $155 ? No way I would purchase this just for that reason alone . $155 for a palette with poor ratings ? Oy vey .
Yup – 4 eyeshadows, 2 cheek products and an outrageous price tag. You could go to MAC, MUFE or Inglot and put together 4 shadows and 2 cheek products for a whole lot less (and you could choose products with an A or higher “Christine Rating”.)
This one is not for me but I love the “look’ you created with it.
Pretty, but far too expensive, especially with that one really weak shade.
Well, I’ll be, but this sure is a letdown! I’m only liking 3 out of the 6. That highlighting shade is such an ethereal and lit from within type of shade! I wish it was available as a single. I’m also feeling the gold and burgundy eyeshadows, to be completely honest! But that pale 1970’s frosty pink is disastrous…the taupe looks beyond bland.
I love this palette, especially the blush and red eyeshadow, and for the overall wearability of the shades. I have not experienced dryness in the powders. (My palette came from Selfridges.) The pink eyeshadow is quite light. I’ve been tapping into the blush shade. Beautiful. Christine, might you know if the second shade is the pailette formula? Your eye look is particularly stunning!
I don’t know what you mean by pailette formula, Tracey!
Hi Christine, in the Tom Ford Private Eyeshadows, Paillette is one of the finishes (described as “pearlized shades with a sequin glitter finish”). One review made a passing reference but I don’t own any, so can’t compare the formulas.
They seem similar to me, but I’m not sure if the ingredients are the same! The one in this palette seems to be a little more glittery but that can depend on the shade (in my experience).
I like this color scheme; however, at this price it should be outstanding across the board.
It looks beautiful in the packaging, but that’s way to expensive for the quality.
Wow! An F and an A+ within the same palette. You really get variety for your money :p
I’m still attracted to this color scheme, so it’s still on my radar. I haven’t had a chance to see it in person yet, so I’ve held off on purchasing.
