Cheerleader
Tarte Cheerleader Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paints ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a bold, bright medium-dark red with strong, cool undertones and a matte finish. It had medium color coverage that went on fairly evenly and dried down to a flat, matte finish. It did not “crack” on me and was only mildly clingy while worn. The color lasted for six hours, faded away somewhat evenly, and was drying over time.
The Quick Dry formula is supposed to have “full coverage” with a “transfer-proof” finish that won’t crack, dry your lips out, or feather. After trying several shades in the formula, there is a lot of inconsistency across shades. Some are nice, some are terrible; some absolutely “crack” and others have a soft matte finish that is transfer-proof without making lips look drier. The formula is, overall, lightly to moderately drying on me, though the wear is longer at five to seven hours and most shades had good pigmentation.

Fly
Tarte Fly Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paints ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a medium-dark berry with cool undertones and a matte finish. While it didn’t have the full coverage promised–it was semi-opaque–the color applied evenly and smoothly with a thin texture that spread well but did not sink into lip lines or dry down and leave lips looking “cracked.” The color wore well for over six hours, but the formula was somewhat drying overall.

Friyay
Tarte Friyay Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paints ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a deep purple with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was thin, a little watery and had a tendency to apply unevenly. It had medium color coverage, which was not even close to the full coverage described. The formula dried down to a transfer-proof finish that was matte but did not “crack” when I smiled. This shade lasted for five hours, faded away more noticeably from the center of the mouth, and was mildly drying.

Acid Wash
Tarte Acid Wash Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paints ($20.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a blackened berry with cool undertones and a flat, matte finish. This was one of the worse shades, as it applied unevenly, was incredibly drying over time, and did not even have opaque coverage. This was painfully drying, as my lips felt raw and started to peel after wearing this for six hours (to add insult to injury, it also faded unevenly).

Fly is gorgeous!
It is!
Fly, Cheerleader, and Friyay are such pretty colors. I wish they would make them with a velvet or satin finish in a non-drying formula!
That would be awesome!
Since this formula is so hit-or-miss depending on the shade, maybe they should’ve just skipped the badly formulated shades. I mean, who needs another dark purple that looks like a streaky mess AND is super drying??? And in The Year of the Lippies, with thousands of options out there, no need to settle for anything that scores lower than an A
They put out a LOT of shades, so they did not need some of these real misses!
I adore all 4 of these shades!!! They’re so happy and “me” ahaha.
I want to try the regular lippy paints; not these quick dry ones. But I might pick one up in a shade I’ll use every day just to see how I like the formula!!
The glossier ones are easier to wear!
All of the colors are beautiful but can I say, I am not unhappy that these did not score well. My lipstick obsession has gotten out of hand and I really need to resist. These scoring so poorly and being drying to the lips makes this an easy pass for me.
Yay for something to skip 🙂
Love the colors, too bad about the rest 🙁
I wish the formula was better!
Acid Wash sounds like they took that first word a *little* too seriously! Like: yeowch!!! ?
I will be SO happy the day when these dry down mattes go away for good! Because even though I love how Cheerleader looks, I would still go for Ruby Woo before this.
Well, we are seeing glossier stuff, so maybe 2017!
Ugh, its always frustrating when a line has a formula that performs inconsistently across shades, (particularly when it affects all of the shades you like lol). It’s times like these that I really appreciate your reviews. Reading them ahead of time has definitely saved me money.
It is! You never know what you’re going to get when that happens 🙁
Oh dear, sorry to hear the last one was painful to wear! Cheerleader and Fly look lovely on you.
Thank you, Claire!
