Black Ice

Sydney Grace Black Ice Pressed Pigment Shadow ($6.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a deep, charcoal gray with cool undertones and a metallic finish. It had an incredibly soft, slightly looser-pressed consistency (but it didn’t seem too soft/powdery/messy) that packed tons of pigment in a single layer. It was the type of pigmentation where a little went a long way! The eyeshadow applied evenly to bare skin and blended out with little effort. It wore well for eight hours on me before creasing faintly.

The shimmer eyeshadows are more consistent in pigmentation with the majority of shades having opaque color coverage. The more metallic/sparkly the shade is, the creamier and more emollient the eyeshadow felt in the pan, which often yielded really smooth application and good adherence to the lid, though a few worked better with a fingertip or a dampened brush for true-to-pan color or to get a truer finish/sheen.

Most shades, however, worked well with brushes, and I didn't have trouble applying or blending out most of the shimmer shades. The more satin to pearl like finishes tend to feel a little thinner but blend out well. These shades wore between eight and nine hours on me with some of the more foiled-like shades creasing noticeably at the end (and the less foiled-like ones fading).

Cadet

Sydney Grace Cadet Matte Shadow ($5.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a medium-dark, olive green with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It was richly pigmented with a smooth, lightly creamy consistency that was denser without being too thick or too firmly pressed in the pan. The color went on easily over my lid with smooth, even coverage that stayed on well for eight hours on me.

Calling Birds

Sydney Grace Calling Birds Matte Shadow ($5.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a soft, light brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff in a single layer, which was easily built up to full coverage with a second layer. The consistency was soft, a smidgen dusty in the pan but not prone to fallout, and it blended out nicely along the edges. This shade lasted well for eight hours before fading noticeably on my skin.

Formula Overview

$5.25/0.06 oz. - $87.50 Per Ounce

The matte eyeshadows tend to be pigmented (typically semi-opaque or opaque, often buildable if they aren't opaque) with a soft, more velvety texture that has slight slip but isn't so thick that it gets difficult to use, applies unevenly, or has a lot of fallout. I've found that most of the matte eyeshadows apply and blend out without much effort but a few may take a bit more effort to diffuse along the edges. The matte formula tends to wear between eight and eight and a half hours on me.

Comforter

Sydney Grace Comforter Pressed Pigment Shadow ($6.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a light-medium, bluish-teal with cool undertones and a gold-green shifting shimmer. It had a denser, firmer consistency that required a heavier hand to pick up product evenly (or else a denser brush or a dampened brush). It had nearly opaque pigmentation but was harder to apply evenly without using pressing/pushing motions on my lid. The eyeshadow started to fade noticeably on me after eight hours of wear.

Dream Maker

Sydney Grace Dream Maker Pressed Pigment Shadow ($6.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a soft peach with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It was deceptively subtle, with respect to shimmer, in the pan, but it was quite brightening applied to my skin. The consistency was soft, smooth, and finely-milled without being powdery. It had opaque pigmentation that stayed on well for eight hours on me.

Island Paradise

Sydney Grace Island Paradise Matte Shadow ($5.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a medium-dark green with subtle, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. The pigmentation was opaque in a single layer, while the consistency was soft, velvety, and not too powdery nor too firmly pressed in the pan. The eyeshadow blended out fairly readily, though it did take a bit more effort to get the edges to diffuse seamlessly. It lasted for just over eight hours on my skin before fading noticeably.

Vanguard

Sydney Grace Vanguard Matte Shadow ($5.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a murky, greenish-brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good color coverage in a single layer, but it needed a second layer to be more true-to-pan in color and opaque in coverage. The texture was fairly soft, though it seemed thinner and on the drier side compared to most of the brand’s mattes (which have more of a substantial, velvety feel to me). It wore nicely for eight hours before starting to fade noticeably on my eye.

Lovely shades, and I think this is one of my favourite looks of yours. It’s muted/faded and colourful at the same time. Perfect blend of wearability and artistry!
I’m also used to see you with 2 different eye looks now… I wouldn’t find it strange if I saw you around town like that. Perception truly depends on habit!

I’ve owned and loved Charcoal Brown for years; when I saw Vanguard, my first thought was “what an ugly colour” (for me); my second thought was “how can Charcoal Brown be a dupe?” I do have dupes for all the colours here that I love, including Cadet, Black Ice and Comforter but you have made such a lovely eye look and these shadows, again, just amaze me in their beauty and quality.
