The vast majority look like layering lipsticks at best. I do like UVB with that in mind; don’t have anything like it.
I agree. I’m just guessing, but I think these may be sheer on purpose. I may get a two and I plan on using them for layering, 🙂
Nodding in agreement here, Ellie.. I think the layering part is perfect because it makes the ‘frost’ do-able for me. That sheerness over another lipstick is so much better than full on frostation.
Good, a lipstick release where I won’t be getting any of the lipsticks! : )
Ooooh, Pallor looks really unique!! The swatch looks terrible, but I love the color on the lips, kind of bruised plum look. When I’m wearing bold purple shadows, I only need a sheer color on the lips, something that won’t compete with the shadow but will pull the whole look together. Pallor is on my buy list !
With you.. I think it would look great over a pinky nude lipstick.
I am in love with Plague and Asphyxia!!!
UV-B looks beautiful but I don’t know if I could pull it off.
Roach is nice but reminds me of Conspiracy, which I have.
Any launch date on these yet?
I’m planning on getting Plague and Asphyxia! 🙂
OMG!!! Smog, Roach, Plague and Frostbite are MINE this holiday season. 😀
I was soo excited to see these type of shades from UD. But they are all soo sheer. Even the good metallic ones are on the semi-opaque side. 🙁
Bruise is my favorite but I like some of the shimmers too.
This really impresses upon me how far lipstick formulas have come in the last 20 years!
Roach, Bruise and Asphyxia are calling out to me! Plague looks pretty dang awesome, too! Oil Slick seems to be more of a topper, possibly to mute down another shade and add some shimmer in the process?
i am pretty sure they weren’t called VICE in the 90s. I am mostly bummed that they didn’t put out OG Gash! They have reformulated it like 3x and it looks nothing like the original which I still own bc memories. It was the 1st lipstick I ever bought with my own money in 1997. Also, the OG UD lipsticks were way more opaque. 🙁
What did the OG Gash look like? I have the newest version and it looks like someone punched me in the mouth, which I love. But I can’t remember the original 🙁
The original gash was metallic and looked like essentially scabbed blood. When UD reformulated it in the packaging that looked like the handle of a sword (I have that one too and the original lip pencil) they sheered it out made it more “red” and less of the deeper more burgundy colour it was. Also OG was super opaque. It’s the colour gwens wearing in this photo lol https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/9e/24/36/9e2436de297b243daaa40060f3d9fc69.jpg
A couple of these are right up my alley. 🙂
UV-B and frostbite Look very interesting. Did you put on a thick Layer for the photos/Are they sheer with one coat ? Thank you.
I… might need all of these.
Well, except Smog. I had a lipstick like that in the 90s and it was one of the worst looks on me ever, lol.
I like Smog and Roach.Pallor is the only other one I’m interested in it has a pretty unique irridesence.Oil Slick looks terrible!!!Whats up with that?I had Asphyxia in lipgloss form and I used to love it this lipstick form isn’t looking like a must have to me.
UVB is the only one that looks really unique and awesome to me. What is it with MAC and UD and these super sheer frosts. We know that they can make opaque awesome frost finishes I wish they would do more of them in these unique colors!!
Ah too sheer and metallic for me… Not a huge fan of that trend… Guess I won’t be purchasing any of these
Oil slick and Bruise I hope will be mine!!!!
Bruise, both the rereleased polish and lipstick, look nothing like original which was a gorgeous deep grape with green duochrome. Sad face 🙁
True I have the original lip and the lip pencil and I was swatching and holding up to the photos. I guess they figure that not a lot of people would remember what things originally looked like.
I thought that when my nail polish arrived! The new bottle is awfully green looking compared to both the color I had in the original and when they re-released it in the previous style of bottles maybe like 12-13 years ago.
I was sort of curious about the nail polishes. I have only 1 OG polish in frostbite and was wondering if it was similar bc in the photos of the new one it looks much lighter than my bottle.
I used to wear asphyxia and frostbite back in HS lol… I had Roach too… They looked more pigmented back in the day, they were less glitter and more substance… I even had asphyxia lip liner, it came in a little plastic test-tube. I miss the old days of UD. That prolly makes me sound very old lol
Not at all I feel exactly the same way. Urban decay in the 90s was amazing and I honestly feel it’s been a watered down version of itself since 2003 which was right after it was first sold off to a big corp. it’s now owned by an even larger Corp and I’m sure they are just trying to capatlize on 90s nostalgia which is at an all time high.
Your comment is excellent…and could speak of the ’90s overall vs. today. More substance than today. I LOVED the original formulations. Much more pigment.
Thank you!! I have OG oil slick, bruise, hammersmith, cash, smog, and gash. I swatched them yesterday (on my hand) and was really shocked that after 20 yrs most swatched as if still new. However they smell like old crayons ?
Oh no! Crayons=Bad! You know, I’ve always loved this line, since the very beginning. I saw Wende at the Makeup Show in May in NYC, talking about how the company started. I always go back/forth when companies I love are bought by huge companies like L’Oreal or EL. I miss the ’90s products, although I understand companies have to move forward and make money to make new products. Maybe it’s me.
It’s soooo bad !!! i like to look at the old products hold them in my hand and wish for better days lol.
i could have lived (i will probably burned at the stake for this) without the naked palettes if it meant that UD would have stayed what it was instead of falling into line with what everyone else was doing. they became so basic it hurt.
Ahhh, how am I going to decide what to get amongst all the purples?
And I will never understand the appeal of Oil Slick. I say that as someone who bought it in the dagger formula after they were discontinued. It was worth $5 to appease my curiosity. It didn’t look like much on. Maybe to shockingly pull out a black lipstick bullet when reapplying? But then you’ve applied a nearly invisible lipscolor, so…
Pallor lipstick was one of the first Urban Decay products I ever bought. The formula was dry and I’m not convinced that it ever looked that good on me, but I’m still kind of happy to see it return. I actually still have a tube of Oil Slick around here somewhere, from just before the previous formula was discontinued. It looks similar to your swatch, although perhaps a wee bit more pigmented (could just be the difference between our skin tones).
Looking at these, I wish that they had done a better job with the formula. It would have been great to see those shades done “properly”. I’m not certain I liked the direction they’ve gone with their lipsticks this year. Lots of colours, but uneven in terms of quality.
I have an older tube of Oil Slick too, and it does seem more pigmented than Christine’s swatch. Not sure what’s up with that! Maybe they thought it would sell better if it was sheerer and they could play it off like the trendy “lipstick transformers” that are popular now, like the Estee Edit and OCC ones.
Am I the only one who likes sheer lipstick? Seriously, I think ppl are too addicted to the opaque ones… Glad I have options now!
I don’t really like any of them. I like sheer lipsticks but most of the color here I don’t like and they seem streaky.
Aww they look terrible. Makes me sad
any idea when these will be released at sephora or ulta (online or in store)??
They are out at both Sephora and Ulta now, as well as on Urbandecay.com. : )
GAWD YEAH, I want them ALL! 90s throwbacks or not, they’re all very beautiful and fit in our modern makeup trends. UV-B… wow. Never seen anything like it. That’ll be the first one I grab for sure. Thanks for swatching all these Christine!
