Sephora Colorful Eyeshadows (Spring 2016) Part 1 Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Sephora Morning Freshness Colorful Eyeshadow
Sephora Colorful Eyeshadow ($10.00 for 0.07 oz.) is supposed to be “highly pigmented, long-lasting” powder eyeshadow with 10-hour wear and “an ultrasmooth, blendable texture.” For the most part, I find the range to have good color payoff, blendability, and wear, though they do not typically last as long as 10 hours (more like eight).
Sephora Morning Freshness Colorful Eyeshadow ($10.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a light-medium beige with neutral-to-warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had good color payoff with a soft, smooth consistency that was easy to apply to bare skin. It blended out well, and it lasted for eight hours. Sephora Fall Leaves Colorful Eyeshadow ($10.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a light-medium orange with warm, peachy tones and a frosted sheen. It was richly pigmented and blendable, while the texture also ran a little drier–the shimmer seemed to sheer out from the base color just a bit. This shade stayed on well for eight hours before fading noticeably. NARS Old Church Street (Left) (LE, ) is warmer (95% similar). Sephora Flirting Game Colorful Eyeshadow ($10.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a soft, medium taupe-brown with strong, warm undertones and a frosted finish. Sephora Be on the A-List Colorful Eyeshadow ($10.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a muted, medium taupe brown with warm, golden tones and a frosted finish. Sephora Cashmere Coat Colorful Eyeshadow ($10.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a dark, taupe-brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was very finely-milled and soft, but it kicked up excess powder in the pan and could have fall out if you don’t remember to tap off the excess prior to applying. It managed to have enough binder that it adhered well to bare skin without sheering out too readily. This shade started to fade after eight hours of wear. MAC Fashion Fix (DC, $21.00) is darker (95% similar). Viseart Tabac (PiP, ) is warmer (95% similar). Persona Maverick (PiP, ) is darker (95% similar). Sephora Don’t Get Me Wrong Colorful Eyeshadow ($10.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a deep, smoky taupe-brown with warmer undertones and a stronger, purple-gray overtone paired with a frosted sheen. The texture was denser, more cream-like, compared to the other shades, and it had really rich, opaque pigmentation that applied beautifully to the skin but still blended out easily. This shade wore well for eight and a half hours on me. MAC Twilight Falls (LE, $21.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Chanel Tisse Camelia #4 (PiP, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). I have a number of these shadows from the new additions and find the formula mature eyes friendly. I likes ’em. Cashmere coat is killah pigmented if you are looking for one of these grayed taupe crease colours.
KJH: I’m using that FAB eye duty triple remedy not only as an undereye primer, but now also as a lid primer and it work exceptionally well. It neutralizes all my old lady eye pigmentation and it stays slightly tacky so makes shadows really adhere well. At this point, I can’t live without this sh*t.
FAB Eye Duty Triple Remedy… under eye primer and lid primer? What… magic… trying.
Hey Christine, Tammy, and Tugce:
A couple of caveats:
I’m 53 m’kay and have textured dry lids. I use aggressive anti-aging retinol for eye area treatment so I’m quite dry lid wise.
For the on eyelid app I use a MAC 217 and use it very sparingly. Below I, I also use sparingly, but tap in with pinky finger. I need more help on my bags, so I use a yellow brightener on top in places where I have discoloration still showing through. This stuff is very light and sheer and certainly not highly pigmented. I use just tiny tiny amounts. I think the reason I like it so much: it helps anything on top adhere better. It does not emphasize texture, it melds quickly into the skin, it does not flake.
Yes, it does stay quite tacky. I set with my base eyeshadow. If you have oilier lids, I would suggest setting with powder first.
I use the brighten, depuff, smooth version Tammy in Fair/Medium for my NC20-25ish skintone.
Tugce: I like that I can use one product versus two. I do not like eyeshadow primers. They cause my eyelids to look more dry and textured. … even if I am careful with a thin application. I do not like concealer, because it feels too gunky and heavy and it sucks up eyeshadow colour eventually during the course of the day.
Have I been anal enough here with my details? Jayzus..I’m a case.. LOL
Going to have to try that triple duty!
Which triple duty? AM gel or brighten, smooth, de puff? Do you put eyeshadow directly on top or set with powder first?
I think she puts the shadow directly on top as she said she likes the tackiness.
Responded at length under Christine’s message Tammy, in case you are looking for response notification. 🙂
Thank you, Wendy!
I love anything I tried from FAB line so far. So I will trust your judgement and will buy the Eye Duty Triple Remedy. I can never wear shadows without primer and I am always annoyed that I have to go an extra step for something that needs to work on its own. (Clearly my eyelids’ fault, even the best shadow will crease.)
If this works then I will feel like my primer has a purpose.
Responded at length under Christine’s message Tugce, in case you are set up for reply notification on this post 🙂
I totally purchased the FAB based on the strength of yours and KJH’s recs. Bonus: Amazon Prime = free same day shipping, so I’ll have it in my hot little hands this afternoon!
Holy crap this afternoon! Wow!!!
I hope it works really well for you. Let me know 🙂
No hope in hell of ever having that level of service out to the boonies. It took Fedex 3 days (and a weekend in between) to get an overnight Int’l priority package to me. I was so pissed. I paid over 60 dollars US for the priviledge. Fortunately, it was a first strike for them on the service side. They are usually excellent and my driver is a very cool lady… knows not to deliver my packages to the barn. Yeah…LOL.. dying laughing here. It happens all the time. Imagine!
Here’s hoping! My under eye area definitely has been changing over the last 3-6 months – definitely more lines, slightly less forgiving, I think, to product and whatnot.
It’s so frustrating when you pay extra for faster shipping, and it doesn’t actually get to you any faster! Glad you at least got it, I suppose… Nice to hear you have a good FedEx lady – I usually have the best luck with UPS drivers but FedEx is more hit and miss!
Christine, about your eye area skin changing, let me say this, it’s this SUPER arid, dry as h*ll desert climate! It sucks all the moisture out of ones skin. The only thing that has helped me, well at least until I moved and my daughter & SIL lost mine, has been a cool humidifier. I will need to get another. Because when I was using it overnight religiously, my skin looked and FELT so much nicer and glowing!
Thank you for the tip! Any humidifier you recommend? I have one, but frankly, it’s just too much work to deal with it :/
I have enough neutrals, but these are all gorgeous, especially Fall Leaves and Don’t Get Me Wrong. Even the matte Cashmere Coat looks good. It’s really great to see Sephora products score well. They don’t get a lot of respect, but they are a really under-rated brand.
There are some nice ones! I wish they were a bit cheaper/smaller or maybe pan-only, though.
Agree. I have some half dozen or 8 of these and while they are great value, there’s a heck of a lot of eyeshadow in the pans. I’d much prefer smaller pans (and a smaller price tag, but I feel this way about MUFE too and a few other brands). At least they are easy to depot, which isn’t something you can say about many brands but selling them as pro pans really would be the ultimate. I’ve had Be on the A-List since the very first launch but need to get Cashmere Coat, Don’t Get Me Wrong and Morning Freshness for sure. Christine, do you have Secret Keeper? I got that a few weeks ago and really love the shade.
I don’t think I have that one – at least I know I didn’t pick it up with the redo/relaunch of the formula!
It might be worth reviewing. I’m pretty sure it’s one of the new shades (Be on the A List was one of their originals, from 2 or 3 years ago). On the site, I think they call it “grey” but it’s much more complex than “grey” would suggest. It sort of puts me in mind of L’Oreal’s Gilded Envy. Although the colours are only just barely similar, it’s more the complexity of the shade that reminded me of Gilded Envy.
Thank you for the heads up! 🙂 Maybe next time Sephora has their sale, I’ll grab a few more shades!
Wow! That’s a nice look.
Thank ya, Tammy!
Sephora Cashmere Coat Colorful Eyeshadow seems to be a deeper version of Kat Von D Lazarus Eyeshadow. I might want to check this out as a face contour powder given the price.
Fall Leaves is also very pretty. 😉
I love shades like Cashmere Coat, because they’re great in softer, neutral looks but also amazing for blending out other darker shades that aren’t as easy to blend out!
I don’t know what your skin tone is but I am super pale and cool toned and I use Sephora “Tranquility” eye shadow as a contour but you have to be really light handed with it as it is really pigmented. I usually tap it off and then swirl it off on the back of my wrist. It is a greiged/purplish tone. Just a thought.
Don’t Get Me Wrong is lovely!
Agreed! Very lush.
They did a real nice job on these. Cashmere Coat makes a good neutral crease color. It’s in the Vintage palette, that they still don’t have displayed in stores, despite it being in the back room. Think I’ll pop for those that aren’t majorly duped in stash. Still might need MUFE pink gray. Wishlisted forever.
It’s funny how it is Sephora’s own brand but not displayed, LOL!
Have MUFE pink gray too. I like both. Of course.
KHJ, that is so weird because I swatched the Vintage palette at the Sephora at Westlake Mall in downtown Seattle about 3 weeks ago. Ultimately decided against getting it but it did swatch really nicely. I wonder if maybe they were not suppose to have it out yet? They had all three of the filter palettes out. I have several of the Sephora single shadows and really like them. Like Christine, I wish they sold them in pan only with a price break!
These are nice! Cashmere Coat looks like the ultimate neutral crease color!
It would be great in the crease!
These look good, nice! So glad we FINALLY have a Sephora here now.
Yayyy! 😀
Uhh, I really want to try some of the lighter shades, they look awesome!!
Aww!
Such nice colors! I feel like many people don’t talk about Sephora brand products. I really like their blushes and liquid eyeliner.
There are some real winners in their range!
Morning Freshness is really pretty. Don’t get me wrong might be a future purchase I love both the Chanel dupes.
It is a nice shade – very good for brightening!
These all came together so nicely in your EOTD look! I really like these shades. Which means that in all likelihood, I have dupes around here. Enough so that I may only *need* Morning Freshness (or its CP dupe, Acorn?) and Don’t Get Me Wrong ( unless UD Roach or Busted could sub?)
Thank you, Nancy!
Fall Leaves and Flirting Game looks gorgeous xo
They are!
What a great collection of gorgeous, neutral cool toned colours. These are fantastic value for the price, and judging by the dupe list, better performing than some HE brands. Love the taupes.
I somehow managed to gravitate towards the taupes on this one, lol!
I’m impressed. These look really good.
They do!
Hey Christine. In the eye look you did in this post what is the eyeshadow you used under your eyes? It looks like a lilac grey. Is that the seniors eyeshadow in don’t get me wrong? I’m just verifying hahaha
I think it’s Sephora Tango Night Eyeliner!
