Elson
Pat McGrath Elson MatteTrance Lipsticks ($38.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a rich, medium-dark red with neutral-to-cool undertones and a satin finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that applied beautifully–even, smooth, and flattering on the lips. The consistency was light-medium in thickness but still felt rather lightweight with a bit of creaminess as the lipstick warmed up against my lips. The color wore well for over six hours, left a stain behind, and was slightly drying after four hours of wear.
The formula is supposed to be “richly pigmented” with “”supreme hydration” and “opulent matte opacity.” It’s a denser, firmer formula that takes a second to warm up against the lips, so the very first pull of the lipstick on the lips tugs slightly but then maneuvers smoothly across the lips without skipping or dragging. The lipstick was thicker on the lips, which ensured richer coverage and helped smooth out the texture of my lips but was less forgiving along the edges. For some of the deeper shades, I would recommend using a lip pencil or a lip brush to ensure crisper lines. For an hour or two, the majority of the shades had more of a satin finish that became more matte as the shine wore down. The wear was between four to eight hours and none felt hydrating over time for me; a few were non-drying while others were noticeably drying. There was no discernible scent or taste to the formula.

Formula Overview
$38.00/0.14 oz. - $271.43 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to be “richly pigmented” with “”supreme hydration” and “opulent matte opacity.” The consistency was smooth, velvety, and dense without being too firm for one-stroke, glide-on application (I found the original shades to be slightly firmer compared to more newly released shades). They had nearly opaque to opaque coverage in one layer and most were buildable.
They had a subtle sheen--more satin-to-cream in finish--that wore down to a natural matte finish within an hour or two of wear. The formula lasted between four and eight hours on me, and while most weren't drying, they aren't "supreme[ly" hydrating either. They are, however, comfortable to wear over a longer period of time and reapply well. There was no discernible scent or taste to the formula.

Obsessed
Pat McGrath Obsessed MatteTrance Lipsticks ($38.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a bright, medium orange with warm, red undertones and a cream finish. It had intense, opaque color coverage with a creamy, smooth consistency that had some slip but seemed to “set” after a half hour and did not slide around. The texture was easy to work with, as it never dragged or tugged, but I did have a bit of color that pulled into my lip lines initially that I was able to smooth out (without it returning) after some of the shine went away. It stayed on well for five and a half hours and was neither drying nor hydrating.

Full Panic
Pat McGrath Full Panic MatteTrance Lipsticks ($38.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a vibrant, medium-dark fuchsia with subtle, cool undertones and a satin finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation with a smooth, velvety texture that was creamy without being slippery. There was something about the texture, though, that did not sit as smoothly on my lips as other shades–it seemed to highlight imperfections with some color slipping into my lip lines as well. The lipstick wore well for five and a half hours, left a reddish stain behind, and was neither drying nor hydrating.

I’m not really a red person so the reason I want Elson is silly…. it’s my last name! 😆 But these are $52CAD which makes me die inside because I’m willing to spend that on a foundation….. but a lipstick?
If I didn’t already own what is likely far too many reds, I would so jump on Elson! What a STUNNING red!
Full Panic is also a beauty, but I think I’d much rather get MAC All Fired Up, I think?
Thank you for getting these up so fast! <3
No problem!
I love Elson on you, Christine.
All these are really gorgeous. Fortunately, I have dupes for all three.
Thank you, Rachel! 🙂
Looking forward to my Obsessed to arrive from Sephora! Am planning to pair it with my Nars Timanfaya pencil.
Your makeup in these photos is just flawless and outstanding!! Which LM loose setting powder did you use — the Translucent or the Invisible? Will search to see if you’ve done a review and comparison of these.
The Translucent!
Elson is such a lovely shade.
Full Panic is the most unique out of these with this finish and color.
