Bloody Mary
NYX Bloody Mary Matte Lipstick ($5.99 for 0.16 oz.) is a medium-dark, pink-red with very strong, blue undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had good pigmentation that was buildable to full coverage with a half a layer more on top. The lipstick had more of a velvety feel and was slightly firmer in the tube compared to others in the range, and it seemed to cling more noticeably on. This shade wore well for over six hours, left a stain behind, but was moderately drying to me.
The Matte Lipstick is supposed to be “highly pigmented” and have a “velvety, non-glossy” finish. In general, the formula has semi-opaque to opaque color coverage with a velvety texture that glides on without tugging but doesn’t have a lot of slip, so the lipstick won’t slide around while worn. The formula varied from non-drying to moderately drying with wear times that ranged from four to over six hours (deeper, reddish shades lasted quite long). It has a mint scent and no discernible taste. I noticed that the packaging had a tendency to twist up the lipstick too easily (even barely holding it) and sometimes would twist down as I would apply it directly from the tube.

Perfect Red
NYX Perfect Red Matte Lipstick ($5.99 for 0.16 oz.) is a medium red with neutral-to-warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. The lipstick had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which applied evenly across the lips and never tugged or dragged. The consistency was just barely creamy, which made the lipstick feel lightweight and thin on the lips, but it wasn’t uncomfortable or clingy while worn. It stayed on well for over six hours, left a stain behind but was somewhat drying after four hours of wear.

Eden
NYX Eden Matte Lipstick ($5.99 for 0.16 oz.) is a medium-dark, pinky red with cool undertones and a semi-matte finish. It was richly pigmented with a lightly creamy texture that wasn’t too thin nor too thick. The texture was just creamy enough to apply without tugging but did not slide around. There was a smidgen of color that gathered in my deepest lip line but was not noticeable from a normal viewing distance. On me, the color lasted for over six hours, left a stain behind but was lightly drying over time.

Having read of Perfect Red being compared to MAC’s Ruby Woo in times past (4-5 years back), it has been on my radar. Yet I haven’t purchased it. Again, I need to question myself as to *why*. Probably because I just love the name “Ruby Woo”, reminds me of a detective mystery novel or something, idk? An added plus is that RW lasts like IRON.
Sometimes the original is better for one reason or the other 🙂
Bloody Mary looks beautiful! I think it will replace my old tube of MAC’s Damn Glamorous quite nicely, I love those hot pinky reds.
Woohoo!
Bloody Mary is beautiful! It reminds me of Dragon Girl. I love me a good blue toned red. Might have to pick it up.
It really does give off the same vibe as Dragon Girl – so blue that it is almost a pink-red!
Wow. NYX is giving MAC reds a run for their money! I love all of these!
NYX definitely dupes a lot of high-end shades!
This will probably sound odd, but I’m not entirely sure what is meant by “clingy” when describing a lipstick.
Something REALLY clingy will feel like it is sucking the life out of your lips – making them appear shriveled, more textured, and dry.
Ah! Makes sense now. I was tempted to think it meant that it stayed put and didn’t slide around on the lips, but you referred to the quality in a negative way, which obviously didn’t jibe. So … got it! Back on track! 🙂
I occasionally will say something like it clings but in a good way, LOL! But usually, I’ll say something more along the lines of it adhering well or comfortably.
Nyx usually does the best cheap dupes, and the quality is generally up there. When a MAC LE is unavailable, I’m never disappointed with a Nyx dupe…esp a red. Poor Nyx classics, sandwiched between 2 new palettes of note!
They do! One is bound to find something close enough in their very large ranges!
So sad these are drying!
Totally understand, Erin!
Bloody Mary is a gorgeous color! I’m also loving Eden, and if it’s less drying, I might go for that one instead.
Eden was definitely less drying to me than Bloody Mary!
Bloody Mary is an awesome colour and I wear it a lot 🙂
Woohoo 😀 Do you use it alone or with any lip liner?
I wear it with NYX Fuschia lip liner 🙂
