Natasha Denona Eyeshadow Palette 10
Natasha Denona Eyeshadow Palette 10

Natasha Denona Eyeshadow Palette 10 ($95.00 for 0.80 oz.) contains ten shimmery eyeshadows–there are no mattes in sight, so take heed if you’re a big fan of variety in finish! The top row is a cooler-toned row, while the bottom row is more warm-toned (and all neutral). I liked the palette overall, as the majority of the shades were pigmented and blendable, but I did have similar issues with getting longer-wear out of these as they would crease between seven and eight hours. I’ve used the brand’s eyeshadows with various primers–NARS Smudge Proof, Too Faced Shadow Insurance, Wet ‘n Wild Fergie, MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pots–and something thicker like MAC’s Paint Pots have proved the best for getting all-day wear reliably (longer than 12-hours). At this price point, though, any shortfalls make it harder and harder to justify a premium price.

Anthrazit (06P) is a dark, charcoal gray with warmer undertones and a pearly shimmer-sheen finish. It had a drier, firmer consistency in the pan that resulted in semi-opaque color payoff and made it harder to blend out on the skin. It lasted for six and a half hours before fading. Chanel Jardins de Lumieres #3 (LE, ) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Makeup Atelier Nude #5 (PiP, ) is darker (90% similar). Chanel Modern Glamour #4 (PiP, ) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (90% similar). Dior Smoky Canvas #1 (LE, ) is less shimmery, lighter, cooler (90% similar). NARS Tzarine II (PiP, $19.00) is less shimmery, lighter, cooler (90% similar). KVD Beauty Filthy (LE, ) is more shimmery, brighter (90% similar). Dior Nocturne (091) (P, $30.00) is darker (85% similar). Guerlain Coup de Foudre #4 (LE, ) is darker (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Graphite (07M) is a rich, dark gray with cooler tones and a frosted sheen. It was nicely pigmented with a soft, smooth consistency that was easily blended and applied to bare skin. It started to crease after seven and a half hours of wear. Sephora Sketch (LE, ) is more shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Urban Decay Digitalized (P, $26.00) is more shimmery, darker (95% similar). Deep Teal (19M) is a slightly muted, medium-dark green-leaning teal with subtle, cool undertones and a metallic sheen. Slate (27M) is a muted, medium-dark purple with subtle, cool undertones and a frosteod finish. The texture of this one was a little grainy–it had bits of powder that appeared as chunks and didn’t adhere to the skin, rather just sat on top of it. The pigmentation was good, and the color lasted for seven and a half hours on me. Natasha Denona Blue Dahlia (181DC) (LE, $29.00) is darker, brighter (90% similar). Milani Purr-fect Purple (DC, $6.99) is warmer (90% similar). Laura Mercier Violet Sugar (LE, $22.00) is more shimmery, warmer (90% similar). elf Midnight Sapphire (P, $5.00) is darker (90% similar). Light Coral (87M) is a light-medium peachy-pink with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had great pigmentation with a soft, lightly loose powder consistency that was a bit messy to use but blended out easily on the skin. It started to crease after seven hours of wear. Aura (25M) is a bright, white gold with warm undertones and a golden, metallic sheen. It had nice color payoff with a soft, smooth consistency that was dense and cream-like to the touch. I noticed this one can sometimes “thicken” on the lid and emphasize the lid’s texture if over-applied (and it is pigmented enough that it can be easy to over-apply!). It wore well for seven and a half hours before creasing. Glaminatrix Jasmine (P, $8.77) is more shimmery, warmer (95% similar). ColourPop Coco Wild (LE, $4.50) is lighter (95% similar). Pearl (56P) is a light-medium, yellow gold with warm undertones and a frosted finish. It had good pigmentation, but the consistency was drier and looser, which resulted in the color sheering out somewhat during application and made it harder to build-up coverage. On me, it started to fade and crease after seven hours of wear. Divergent Golden Honesty (LE, ) is brighter (95% similar). Lancome Eternal Gold (P, $24.50) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). Raw Gold (13M) is a medium-dark, golden bronze with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. The eyeshadow was incredibly pigmented with a really smooth, dense, and buttery texture that applied beautifully to the skin and was a cinch to work with. The only downside is that I did have noticeable creasing after seven and a half hours of wear. Natasha Denona Sienna (50M) (P, $29.00) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). Urban Decay Rustler (PiP, $19.00) is darker (95% similar). Charlotte Tilbury Smokey Eyes are Forever Power Eyes Smoke (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Dark Sepia (47P) is a slightly muted, dark brown with subtle, warm olive undertones and a pearly sheen. It had good color payoff, though it wasn’t as intense as the other shades in the palette (or the line in general). The texture was soft, not too firm or too soft in the pan, and still blended out without difficulty. It wore well for seven and a half hours before fading slightly on me. Chanel Tisse Mademoiselle #4 (PiP, ) is less shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Laura Mercier Rock (LE, $22.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). I like the blue and green here, but will be skip for me. For $95, I don’t want to worry about wear time on my oily lids, and hassle of returning it, assuming I can.

If it wasn’t for the poor wear-time and, creasing, and a few weaker shades, this palette had the potential to be one very nice, fairly versatile palette. But, at $95 one shouldn’t need to employ such a heavy duty, herculean primer as MAC Pro Paint Pot to get it to last on the lid! It’s really a shame these aren’t living up to all the unwarranted hype.

Christina Avatar

That’s too bad about these eyeshadows. If they crease on you, they’ll most definitely crease on me. I do like the composition of colors and the look you came up with, though!

I purchased three of the 5-pan palettes from Beautylish (number 02, 04, and 10) and I have to say for me, I am absolutely in love. These shadows are definitely soft and fragile, but they are very unique in my opinion, and I have tried a lot of shadows. The sparkle in the shimmer shades is pretty incredible and I don’t feel any rough glitter/shimmer, even though they are SO shimmery. I love that even though the shades are so shimmery that they almost appear glittery, I don’t get any flecks of glitter fall out. There is fall out, but not glitter… which I get HORRENDOUSLY from the Diamond Finish MUFE Artist Shadows.

As far as the matte colors, I prefer my Viseart mattes to anything, and the ND mattes are not as great, but they are still very nice in my opinion and I enjoy using them. The trick with these (again, my opinion only) is that you NEED a tacky base. With a tacky base, these look magical, I don’t have creasing, and they last all day. That is definitely a MUST for these. But overall, I am absolutely in love with these. Absolutely completely in love.

I would recommend buying one of the 5-pan palettes and if you aren’t impressed you can always return it. But I swear for me these are one of a kind and I find myself completely infatuated with the amazing finish.

It sure is pretty to look at, and you got a seriously beautiful look out of it. But.. I don’t know, for the price? It doesn’t seem all that “user friendly.”

Side note: Am I crazy, or does the shade variety in this palette look a lot like a brighter, more sparkly version of Urban Decay’s “Smoked” palette from a few years ago? The blue, green, and purple, with the light neutrals, the black and grey, the brown… maybe it’s just me, but it’s ringing my memory bell with a very similar chord.

I love this palette – the colours and finishes are just glorious. But at $95 US dollars -it is very expensive. If you have the Urban Spectrum palette or the Lorac Pro Metals palette you will have most of these shadows or their dupes.
Just love your eye look Christine.

I’m glad the quality is there with this palette, and the shade selection even makes sense to me (you could do a basic gold/bronze/brown look, a dark gray smoky eye — either warm or cool — there are pops of color with choices blue, teal, purple and coral, there are both light and dark shades). They just aren’t the shades I’d be most interested in trying from the line — I already have dupes or similar shades for most of these colors, in formulas I love. I really hope this line comes out with a build-your-own five-pan option, because I’m beginning to think that might be the only way I end up trying it. But this palette would appeal to me quite a bit if I didn’t already have an extensive eyeshadow collection.

I just can’t justify spending this much money on a palette, and I love palettes. I already have so many shadows that are duplicates in the palette, and if they crease, that’s definitely a no go for me. At this price point I do expect the best quality, and the dupes I have wear very well without a primer, and I really would rather spend the money on other things right now.
