Melt Cosmetics Millennial Pinx Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Millennial Pinx
Melt Cosmetics Millennial Pinx 10-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($58.00 for 0.66 oz.) is a new palette featuring a mix of shimmers and mattes. The mattes were decent performers, though not without some issues (Modern Love was one of the worst of the mattes), while the shimmers were underwhelming.
Melt’s eyeshadow formula is one that I want to like but often find the quality to be all over the place, and inconsistency makes it hard to get excited about launches since I can’t predict performance. It’s even more surprising that in a time where high-quality shimmer eyeshadows abound that where Melt missed the most was with their shimmer formula.
Their formula is often too powdery or too dense, and this palette had both types of shimmers. Shades like Rose Brunch and Pink Noise were more powdery, almost cakey, because they were powdery but slightly emollient, giving them a thicker, more uneven lay down of product both in terms of coverage as well as actual physical thickness on my skin.
Shades like Mixed Emotions, Ruby Spar, and Moon Glow were denser, firmer, and harder to pick up with a brush but weren’t impressive with fingertips either.

Rose Brunch
Rose Brunch is a light-medium pink with strong, warm undertones and cooler, pink shimmer with faint gold pearl throughout. The consistency was more loosely-pressed in the pan, but the actual powder seemed thicker, almost cakey as it seemed to have more slip to it–so the powderiness was almost clumpy compared to a traditionally powdery texture.
It had nearly opaque coverage when really pressed and patted onto the skin. I was able to apply it with a brush but found it accentuated lid texture and looked somewhat raised as a result. It stayed on decently for seven and a half hours before showing signs of fading.

Pink Leather
Pink Leather is a light pink with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had some powderiness to it, so there was light fallout and some excess product kicked up in the pan. It had semi-opaque coverage but had a tendency to sheer out somewhat when applied to bare skin (and even over primer). It wore well for seven hours before fading visibly.

Flamingo Dream
Flamingo Dream is a brighter, medium-dark pink-leaning coral with a matte finish and subtle, warm undertones. It had opaque color coverage that applied evenly to bare skin and blended out without difficulty. The texture was lightly powdery in the pan but had a smooth, more velvety feel that was dense without being too thick or heavy. It lasted nicely for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Mixed Emotions
Mixed Emotions is a medium pink with warmer undertones and cooler, pink and lavender shimmer and micro-sparkle. It was firmly-pressed into the pan with a denser feel that made it difficult to pick up product evenly with a brush, so I had to push and jab at the surface to get an even amount of product onto my brush for application.
Unfortunately, this resulted in more opportunity for fallout of a shade that didn’t want to adhere evenly to begin with. It had medium to semi-opaque coverage that was only buildable by using it with a dampened brush. It stayed on decently for seven hours before fading visibly.

Modern Love
Modern Love is a deeper, dusty coral with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good color coverage with a drier, thinner consistency that turned patchy–it was oddly “speckled” as it darkened on my skin. I thought it was one-off, but it happened every time I swatched it as well as during application. Even though I felt like I could diffuse the edge fairly well, it had this patchy look to it that I could not fix. It wore well for seven and a half hours before fading a bit.

Ruby Spar
Ruby Spar is a brighter, medium-dark copper with warm, red undertones and a sparkling finish. It had a denser, firmer texture that had to be pushed through a few layers to get to something softer and more manageable. It had opaque coverage was I worked that top layer or two off, but it was thick and stiff enough to work with that it was more challenging to apply it evenly. There was some fallout during application due to a lot of it not adhering well to bare skin. I’d recommend applying this with fingertips or with a dampened brush, which seemed to minimize the fallout potential. This shade lasted well for eight hours on me with light fallout over time.

Pink Noise
Pink Noise had a warmer, white base with pink-to-peach shifting shimmer that gave it a metallic finish. It read more golden peach on me most of the time, though sometimes it looked slightly pinker.
The texture was more loosely-pressed in the pan, which made it more prone to fallout and sheering out a bit, but there was some slip to the texture that made it appear thick and somewhat caked-on when applied to bare skin. I found the best way to work with this was to apply it with fingertips and then use a clean, dampened brush to smooth it out a bit afterward. It stayed on well for seven and a half hours before fading noticeably.

Moon Glow
Moon Glow is a light and bright silver with cool undertones and flecks of sparkle throughout. It had a moderate amount of fallout due to the sparkle seeming to come away from the surface, which resulted in imprecise diffusion and made it more challenging to keep matte shades matte if I used this later on. The texture felt dense and firmly-pressed into the pan but drier and stiffer. It wore decently for seven and a half hours but had additional fallout over time.

GF is a dark, bluish-gray with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. Euphoria
Euphoria is a deep black with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was slightly firmer than other mattes in the palette, which made it more versatile as it could be applied more intensely or used more sparingly for buildable coverage.
It was still pigmented enough–even with a light-to-moderate touch–that it was opaque in a single layer. It was easiest to work by building up coverage as it wasn’t the most blendable along the edges. It stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours before fading visibly.

Your eye look is beautiful despite the pallates underwhelming performance! I love the colour story- the pinks and greys. I’ve been looking for a rosy pink/ grey pallet that doesn’t vear purple but looks like I’ll have to continue my search!
Thank you, Lynda!
Glad I waited for the review! Although the look you did is gorgeous, there’s too many well performing pink eye shadow palettes to spend so much on a mediocre one. Surprising they didn’t get the shimmers right. Too bad because the color scheme is pretty. I’ll buy one of the eye liners instead.
Yeesh. Such a pretty color story, but Melt always seems to be more miss than hit with their eyeshadows. I have the Love Sick stack which is so pretty but doesn’t perform well, and I recently got the Muerte palette because the color story was so me, but still haven’t used it.
Your review sums up what I felt using this palette. Rose Brunch and Pink Noise arrived slightly damaged in mine, I tried to repress them and I noticed how soft they felt. I had a hard time trying to pick up the shimmers with my Sonia G brushes so I ended up using my fingers.
Melt seems so consistently inconsistent. It really makes me think twice about buying anything from them in the future.
I know by now not to get TOO excited about a Melt release 🙁
I’m sorry you had similar issues – though it’s nice I’m not alone!
Melt’s color stories are always fab, but their quality seems so inconsistent. It drives me crazy, because I want to love them.
Gee, yet another release of pink eyeshadows of sub-par quality. The market seems to have been flooded with them lately – was a sad sign of spring!
How sad that this one falls so short of the mark on most of the shades. Otherwise, this could have been a very fun palette with its unique color story! Oh well, more money saved, I guess.
Gosh – another dud – we have seen a few of those lately from brands that should/could do better. I understand your frustration with Melt Christine and I agree, it would be hard to get excited when they release a new eye palette, when you are so unsure as to the quality.
Also – another pink themed palette – seriously, we have enough in the market already.
This is so heartbreaking, I really wanted this palette to get a good review! I’m a fan of Melt and this had an interesting color story. Sadly, this isn’t the only negative review I’ve seen for it.
Thank you for the review! This was directly on my wishlist when it was announced, but when I saw swatches I was starting to doubt whether I really wanted this palette. After your review, I know that it is not the one for me after all! What a shame.
Yikes. I’ve always felt that Melt’s shimmers left something to be desired (just from my use of the Gemini palette; I never really understood the hype around that one. Kaleidos Makeup’s Sci-Fi Green palette is a million times better and half the price and same color scheme) and it’s sad that this formula follows suit. I really love shades like Rose Brunch; it’s a shame it wasn’t formulated well.
Your look is so pretty! This palette is not receiving very good reviews and I’m saddened, but perhaps relieved since there is no pull towards it.
Thank you, Wednesday!
I’m with you Christine. I want to get excited, but, their quality is hit and miss. I was in Sephora this weekend and MUA expressed the same concerns. Their palettes look gorgeous, but, for every good performing shade there’s a dud. I’ve decluttered the blueprint stack and will most likely declutter Impulsive and Gun Metal stack. The only one I won’t declutter is Smoke Sessions.
I really like the color story of warm pinks against cool grays, but the execution is unacceptable. I’ll leave the palette and take the inspiration.
Just curious. I was on the Internet looking up reviews of the Melt Millenial Pink and came across a site called Retroworldnews.com. It literally had your review word for word and photos. Seems like a total copyright violation. It was your review and they are passing it as their own. Maybe you know of this? Just wanted to let you know in case ?
Hey Erica!
Thanks for the heads up! Unfortunately, places like that are “scraper” sites that scrape content and republish, and they are very hard to stop (you get one and 10 more spring up). 🙁
That’s very unfortunate. It’s sad too that it’s one of the first sites to appear when you do a random Google search for reviews?
It’s super frustrating! 🙁
Looks pretty but it’s not my jam in the color selection . I do want to say that there glitter formulas for this brand are always inconsistent. But recently I been enjoying using them . I don’t apply them with a brush or my finger . I got this plastic tip brush from Sephora and that helped so much . But people shouldn’t buy extra stuff to make an Eyeshadow palette work . I also want to say thank you for the review and keeping it 100% always !
Maybe I just have unusually good luck or maybe I’m just patient, but I’m quite happy with this palette. GF and Euphoria, when applied with a sponge-tip applicator or a small square brush, make great liners! However, Moon Glow is definitely a finicky shade-I’ve found it works best when I pick up a little with my brush, wet the brush and the shadow at the same time, and then apply.
