Melt Cosmetics Crushed Glitter Lip Glosses Reviews & Swatches
Sucker
Melt Cosmetics Sucker Crushed Glitter Lip Gloss ($16.00 for 0.12 oz.) has a very sheer, milky base with flecks of small and larger pieces of opalescent glitter pieces. Of the four glosses, this one actually had more semi-sheer “coverage” from glitter and had better dispersion of that glitter, so it covered more evenly and was somewhat visible in person.
The larger, “irregular” shaped glitter didn’t always lay flat (as they were large, flat pieces over a curved area) and sometimes felt sharp when I pressed my lips together. The milky quality of the underlying gloss went on fairly evenly, lightening my natural lip color, and wasn’t too bad in the settling department. The shine and milkiness lasted for an hour and a half, and then some of the glitter started to flake off shortly after.

The formula is supposed to be "sheer" with "brilliant bursts of irregular shaped glitter fragments that capture and reflect light." Of the four shades, they were bordering on translucent rather than just sheer, and I wouldn't say they had "bursts" of glitter. Sucker was the only one with really visible shimmer/sparkle/glitter from a normal viewing distance, while the others were very sparse and difficult to disperse evenly over my lips.
If you go by the brand's promotional swatches, they're noticeably sheerer. The only shade with a noticeable tint applied (and I have lighter natural pigmentation in my lips) was As If, which had a darkening effect. The glosses seemed to have a creamy, moderately shiny consistency that didn't seem too thin or too thick and wasn't tacky, but all of the glitter was noticeable, and the "irregular shaped" part was very obvious as if I pressed my lips together, I felt something sharp (not just the feel of texture). After eating, I actually had a piece between my teeth I had to floss out (weird experience!). At times, I actually felt
The lack of actual glitter in most of the shades made them appear more like a shiny, translucent gloss but not something that was really sparkling, glittering, etc. They looked far less dimensional than I'd expect based on the claims and formula description, even accounting for the difference between in person viewing vs. still photos shot with a camera.
They had a sweet, vanilla scent with no discernible taste. They lasted between one and two hours on me and felt lightly hydrating overall. If not reapplied shortly, the glitter pieces did migrate/flake off.

Stupid Cupid
Melt Cosmetics Stupid Cupid Crushed Glitter Lip Gloss ($16.00 for 0.12 oz.) has a translucent base with a smattering of holographic glitter pieces. The gloss base felt smooth, not too thick or too thin, and wasn’t tacky, and this particular shade had finer glitter so it wasn’t as textured/jagged when I pressed my lips together compared to other three glosses.
I’m not sure why the effect of the glitter used in the gloss was so lackluster or whether that was a result of how sparsely “pigmented” the glitter was, but it looked like a shiny, sheer gloss but wasn’t really sparkly (even in person!). It wore for an hour before most of the shine had disappeared, and the glitter was more prone to traveling if left without touching up (or removing).
If one compares this shade to the brand’s promotional images, it should actually translate into a grayish gloss with a moderate amount of glitter, but in reality, it’s so much sheerer.

Johnny Rose
Melt Cosmetics Johnny Rose Crushed Glitter Lip Gloss ($16.00 for 0.12 oz.) has a near-translucent base (with the barest peach tint) with sparse flecks of flatter, glitter pieces and finer gold sparkle in the background.
It was more sparsely “pigmented” from the sparkle/glitter; it barely added any dimension (even in person). The glitter pieces did not disperse evenly, and they were extremely noticeable on and felt “irregular” shaped as it felt almost like a static shock when I pressed my lips together at times as they were a little sharper.
The consistency of the actual gloss was smooth, non-sticky, and was comfortable to wear, but the effect was so minimal paired with shorter longevity that after an hour, it looked like I had crumbs on my lips in certain lighting conditions, and was prone to glitter migration/traveling if not removed or re-applied after the shine wore away.

As If
Melt Cosmetics As If Crushed Glitter Lip Gloss ($16.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a black-tinted, sheerer base with flecks of holographic sparkle and glitter pieces. There also seemed to be very fine black shimmer/pearl that looked speckled in the close-up, though I think from a normal viewing distance it just looked like it darkened my natural lip color, added moderate shine, and then some random sparkle that barely caught the light–definitely not a “burst” of it at all.
Despite having a smooth consistency in its base, I could easily feel the shimmer and, at times, the larger particle glitter that felt almost jagged. I’m not particularly sensitive to feeling the texture of glitter in a gloss either. It was difficult to evenly disperse the glitter/sparkle during application. It wore well for two hours and was lightly hydrating over time.

I honestly thought these were eyeshadow ? Since Schitt’s Creek is pretty much my favorite show ever, I’m still dying to know why they named one Johnny Rose.
One of Melt’s creator’s, Dana has a daughter whose name is Johnny Rose
Oddly, I actually love how As If looks applied. But it sounds like it could get extremely uncomfortable to wear due to the sharper glitter.
The other 3 just don’t impress me at all. They sound horrid.
Because one of melt owners little daughter is named Johnny rose
I’m sad that yours also feel sharp on the lips. I was wondering if it was just mine. I bought the box because it was about the same price as getting the palette + two liners, but I think the extra $3 that I paid for the glosses is still too much. If they didn’t feel so sharp I’d probably keep them.
It’s such a weird feeling!! Like not really painful but so unexpected that it’s a bit like “What??” every time it happens.
These look terrible to me. I can imagine these sparkles getting between my teeth. (It happened the one and only time I used glitter lipstick.)
Yeah, not a fan of glitter in my lip glosses. I like a shimmer but pieces of glitter are just not attractive when they are stuck to your lips or migrating down your chin. Also, I have lip lines and troughs that lead into the canyons that are on my upper lip line and I feel like glitter there would only draw attention to the lines.
Yikes! These look and sound awful.
These are dismal. They’re an alternative makeup brand — why not make the glosses more opaque and amp up the glitter?
I think I’ve decided that I don’t quite understand melt cosmetics. They confuse me. They could do so much better, yet it’s almost like they are fine with being very inconsistent.
Another set of duds – this is just about everything I dislike about lip glosses…besides the shades all look pretty similar to me.
Nope nope nope. Noping right on out of these.
