Marc Jacobs Elec-trick (840) Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Elec-trick (840)
Marc Jacobs Beauty Elec-trick (840) Eye-Conic Multi-Finish Eyeshadow Palette ($49.50 for 0.21 oz.) is a new, limited edition holiday release that contains seven eyeshadows with four matte finishes and three shimmer finishes. If you’re unfamiliar with the line, the names read as a sentence when read together.
Most of the eyeshadows were pigmented, blendable, and easy enough to use, but In the Stardust was fussy–more sparkly, more loosely-pressed, which meant it had to be used with a dampened brush to go on well.

Rock Out
Rock Out is a pale, pinky beige with subtle, warm undertones and a satin sheen. The eyeshadow had nearly opaque pigmentation that applied evenly to bare skin and blended out easily along the edges but didn’t sheer out too readily. The texture was silky-smooth, substantial enough to keep it from having fallout but still remained blendable. It wore nicely for seven and a half hours before fading a bit on me.

Feel
Feel is a soft, light-medium taupe with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. It had opaque pigmentation with a smooth, velvety texture that was a smidgen dusty in the pan, but it applied and blended out beautifully on my skin. The color lasted well for seven and a half hours before fading a touch.

The Rhythm
The Rhythm is a medium-dark brown with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had excellent color payoff paired with a smooth, velvety texture that wasn’t too firmly nor too softly pressed into the pan. It applied evenly and blended out well along the edges on bare skin. There was slight fading visible after eight hours of wear.

Glittering
Glittering is a medium-dark, reddish-plum with warmer undertones and cooler pink and warmer gold flecks of sparkle. It had rich color coverage that applied evenly to bare skin and blended out well along the edges, though there was a bit of migration from the sparkles and a bit of fallout during application. The texture was smooth, dense without being thick or heavy, and had good adhesion. It wore well for eight and a half hours with a smidgen of fallout over time.

The Stage
The Stage is a bright, light-medium silver with warmer undertones and a metallic finish. It was intensely pigmented and had a smooth, almost cream-like texture that helped to keep the sparkle, shimmer, and underlying base together. The eyeshadow applied evenly to bare skin and adhered well so there wasn’t fallout to worry about during application. It lasted nicely for eight hours on me before creasing faintly.

In Stardust
In Stardust is a light, slightly warm-toned pink base with flecks of copper sparkle. The texture was more loosely-pressed in the pan, and it was a challenge to apply it without moderate fallout. I’d recommend applying this shade with a dampened brush or fingertip to minimize fallout and maximize pigmentation. It seemed fairly pigmented but sheered out due to the texture. It stayed on decently for eight hours for the base color but had some fallout over time.

Tonight
Tonight is a deep black with neutral-to-cool undertones and a mostly matte finish. There were very, very fine shimmers throughout, but it looked like a matte finish to my eye in person. The texture was more firmly-pressed in the pan, but it was soft, yielding enough to my brush, and had nearly opaque coverage in one layer. It was easily built up to full coverage and blended out well along the edges. This shade wore well for eight hours on me before I noticed fading.

I had a feeling that I would fall hard for this palette, and sure enough, I have. This has me looking at my stash thinking that I must have dupes. I do. But scattered throughout several different pallettes and a few singles! It may just be prudent to try a look with them…or just bite the bullet and have them all nicely together in this quite lovely septet? It’s either this or PMG Subversive Mothership III on Friday!
I believe this one is flying way under everyone’s radar so far! Only 3 YT videos even mention it, yet it screams “party!” LOL!
Such a pretty palette! But, very dupeable in my collection, thankfully.
Here is a perfect example of the usefulness of the swatch database and vanity functions. I have almost exact dupes for all of these shadows scattered amongst my palettes (Viseart Liason conveniently has two). The pink and copper shade with the lowest grade is duped by a PMG VR shade which, while not exact, performs better. When I saw this palette, I really wanted it. Now it’s an easy pass and I save myself CAD $65 and I don’t feel like a doofus for buying the same stuff over and over again.
Oooooo. This one looks nice. To bad about that one C, but I might pick it up anyway. Nice to see see something not so orange.
This is so pretty and rock n roll. It’s super-tempting, but I know I have similar shades scattered about.
I always get sucked in by these Marc Jacobs palettes. There is something about the packaging which reads very upscale to me. I usually love the shades and this one is no exception. I have three of the previous palettes and love all three. I keep going back to Steel-etto and lusting after it so this is another one to add to my list! I love the colour story. The black is super black which I like and the only draw back, besides the C shade is the inclusion of a silver which I have a ton of them and use zero. Even if I didn’t love this one, Christine’s eye look would tempt me. A very classy party look!!
A very pretty palette, but a shame about the pinky C shade. It has quite a bit of variety and I do wish it didn’t have a matte black in it, but a deeper grey satin…. Beautiful eye look Christine.
This is a great color story. Bring back pink and black!
Even if this had rated an A+ and “Temptalia Recommends”, these are just NOT colours for me and at $65, a palette has to have lots of shades I’d wear. While I’ve loved the MJ singles I’ve bought (only 2), his palettes have not thrilled me.
I tested this recently and Glittering is oooooOOOOOO so lovely to touch and glide on! I almost want the palette for the texture of it. it’s like a less chunky version of Seequins.
Just picked this up during the Sephora holiday sale, and I’m so glad to hear it got a good review! It came today so I haven’t tried it yet, and this is my first MJ eyeshadow palette so I’m really excited to try it!
