MAC x Nicki Minaj Mmmmmm, Patisserie, Playing Koi Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Mmmmmm
MAC Mmmmmm Lipstick ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) is a medium, pinky mauve with neutral-to-warm undertones and a lightly glossy finish. It had rich pigmentation that applied even, opaque coverage in a single layer. The lipstick was lightly creamy with a smooth, lightweight texture that glided across my lips easily. The color stayed on well for four and a half hours and was lightly hydrating.

MAC Lipstick comes in a variety of finishes, and the pigmentation and wear tend to be dependent on the finish. The sheer finishes, like Lustres, tend to wear for only a couple of hours and have sheer coverage (as designed) and are non-drying.
Some of the original Matte shades have a stiffer, drier formula, while newer ones have a more velvety, silicone-feel to them, and the latter are creamier, more comfortable to wear, and easier to apply, but most Matte shades are quite pigmented and long-wearing, though some are drying.
The Amplified and Satin finishes tend to have good pigmentation, lightly creamy to moderately creamy consistencies with a bit of shine, and moderate to long wear with deeper, richer shades wearing longer. The Frost and Metallic finishes have the most variance between shades with coverage ranging from semi-sheer to opaque with average wear and non-drying to slightly drying formulas. All MAC lipsticks are vanilla-scented but have no discernible taste.

Patisserie
MAC Patisserie Lipstick ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) is a soft, light-medium pink with strong, warm undertones and a natural sheen. It had semi-sheer to medium coverage, which was as expected given its Lustre finish. The consistency had moderate slip, so it felt slippery on the lips and while comfortable, did not last long–it was mostly gone by the two and a half hour mark. The formula felt a bit drying on me.

Playing Koi
MAC Playing Koi Lipstick ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) is a bright pink with warm, yellow undertones and a satin finish. It had a stronger white base that came through and made it look almost chalky to my eye, which may make it harder to wear for some complexions. The consistency was smooth, lightweight, and just creamy enough to glide across the lips without dragging but was still a bit firmer than the average MAC lipstick. It had nearly opaque coverage that went on more evenly than anticipated, though there was a touch of color that gathered in my lip lines. It lasted for four hours on me and was neither drying nor hydrating.

MMMM looks pretty!
Mmmmmm is so pretty, but of course I’d like this shade…I already have four of the lipsticks on its dupe list!
Mmmmmm is cute but I have a dupe!
Mmmm is my kind of pinky nude! I’m liking it alot on you
Thank you, Fancie!
I would like to know who on earth can pull off Playin Koi? Seems like it would be too pasty on anyone..idk.
I’ll say that I don’t feel like it looks bad on me? But I’m sure my vision is just distorted.
Playing Koi looks great on you, Christine! Love the whole look, in fact.
Thanks, Lindsay! I’m so used to seeing everything mismatched that I think my eye has gone awry sometimes!
You can pretty much pull off any color for sure! Most ppl on YT that I have seen try this…it just is too pale .
I do think that it is often related to what else you pair it with – I find a paler lip color only works on me if I go heavier on the eyes 🙂
Very true about the pairings;)
I bought “MMMMMM” on launch day and it’s really beautiful and it’d probably suit a lot of different skin tones.
It’s also fun to say. I said to the MAC artist, “I want this one, please.” She looked at the label and went, “MMMMMM?” and I said, “Yup, MMMMMM.” “MMMMMM is a good choice.”
Hahaha! 😉
That white base on Playing Koi is rough looking….like if I were to wear it, I’d look like I just ate a powdered donut! Not the look I’m striving for, LoL.
Mmmmm is one that I fell in love with due to seeing not just your swatches, but also YT’ers closer to my skintone. Good thing, too, as it looks quite nice as a pinky-mauve nude on me. Weirdest name ever, though!
Mmmmmm seems to be a popular one!
Lip products are my weakness and I really like the look of MMMMMM. Thats two (Among the Fireflies as well) from the Nicki collection that I want. Also have a nice little list of colors from the Lipglass and Vamplify Gloss that I like. Oh this could be dangerous. I’d better see how many dupes I have for the 2 lipstick colors I like before I jump on this MAC train.
Are Playing Koi and Patisserie not repromotes? The names both sound really familiar (and if you mentioned this in the review and I missed it, apologies). If they are repromotes and now being released under a Nicki Minaj collection, I think that’s a cheap cash grab!
Playing Koi is a repromote, Patisserie is permanent. The collection is a mix of repromotes, permanent shades, and new shades. They didn’t mention that Nicki Minaj created those shades – I believe the idea was Nicki Minaj curated two shades, and then they put together a selection of “nudes” for everyone.
I’m personally happy to see brands bring back shades or highlight permanent ones – I’d rather see them do that than create something new but so similar!
I’m wearing “Mmmmmm” today, and I really like it 🙂 It’s a lovely pinky-mauve that has enough warmth in it so it doesn’t turn blue on me.
