MAC Only You Lipstick
MAC Only You Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “muted mid-tone coral [with a Cremesheen finish].” It’s a muted, rosy pink with warm undertones and an ultra-fine pearl shimmer-sheen. It had semi-opaque color payoff that applied evenly and smoothly. The texture was thin, lightweight, and tended to apply better as it warmed up against the heat of the lips. This shade lasted for three and a half hours and was lightly drying over time. Chanel Marlene (458) (P, $37.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Have We Met? (108) (P, $30.00) is more shimmery, warmer (95% similar). Bite Beauty Fig (DC, $26.00) is cooler (90% similar). Urban Decay Naked (DC, $22.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). MAC Nippon (P, $19.00) is darker (95% similar). Guerlain My First Lipstick (001) (P, $32.00) is less pigmented, cooler (90% similar). Givenchy Nude Guipure (106) (P, $36.00) is lighter, glossier (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Jake (P, $36.00) is darker (90% similar). MAC Without Your Love Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “warm seashell pink [with a Cremesheen finish].” It’s a muted, light-medium pink with subtle, warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had semi-sheer color payoff with a thinner texture that was firmer in the tube until it warmed up against the lips. It glided on without tugging much, but the color tended to creep into lip lines after an hour of wear–and it lasted a mere two and a half hours in total. I wore it twice in a row, and it was lightly drying for me (which is the norm for Cremesheens for me). MAC Soft Savour (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Revlon Pink Lemonade (DC, $7.49) is less shimmery (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Sophia (LE, $36.00) is cooler (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Austin (P, $36.00) is darker (90% similar). Urban Decay Tantric (DC, $18.00) is less shimmery, lighter, glossier (90% similar). Too Faced Shimmering Marshmallow Bunny (DC, $22.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Guerlain Gabrielle (DC, $58.00) is glossier (90% similar). MAC Pretty Natural (LE, $19.00) is cooler (90% similar). MAC Pleasure's All Mine (LE, $20.00) is cooler, better quality (90% similar). Chanel Olga (422) (P, $37.00) is lighter (90% similar). Estee Lauder Nude Reveal (110) (P, $32.00) is darker (90% similar). MAC Giddy (P, $19.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). Estee Lauder Mischievous Rose (P, $30.00) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Shiseido Hushed Tones (RD713) (DC, $28.00) is brighter (90% similar). Wet 'n' Wild A Short Affair (P, $0.99) is cooler (95% similar). Chanel Cecile (432) (P, $37.00) is warmer (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Alicia (LE, $36.00) is darker (85% similar). MAC Only You (LE, $19.00) is darker (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Mustique (LE, $55.00) is lighter, glossier (85% similar). MAC Flamingo (P, $19.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Even though ‘Without Your Love’ didn’t get the best rating the color and finish still appeals to me. Thanks for the review Christine.
No problem, Deidre!
The packaging is very pretty, but these aren’t my colors (would wash me out), and I know many people were eagerly looking forward to this collection. It’s too bad the lipsticks aren’t performing better, and what’s up with the 2 shades that look so similar to each other?? The 2nd one looks like tinted DS lip balm, I can barely see any color in there.
Right? They could be a LITTLE more different from each other.
Nice review as always, not crazy enough about the colors to get them..
By the way, you titled both reviews as the Only You lipstick.
Fixed!
The shades are pretty, but too sheer looking for me.
They are on the sheerer side!
Oh come on. Neither of these will work on deep skintones. Why do brand collaborations rarely take into consideration WOC? 🙁
I don’t know why they’re so similar to each other. Like in a collection with two lipsticks, they’re sooo similar.
Definitely ought to have included something like a coppery-caramel shade or a warm bronzey type of shade! (The song, “Lights” keeps playing in my head!)
That lighter lipstick looks difficult for anyone above an NC25 to use without a ton issues.
I can only imagine the combo I intend to put together here: Only You lipstick with Explosion Plushglass on top! Just WOW!
I do wish that the other lipstick had better wear time and pigmentation. That could have been a winner in this case.
This collaboration could have also used a glowy, coppery-caramel toned lipstick in here!
There you go! 🙂
Is this collection also gonna be available in The Netherlands, because I’m in love with the first color!
XOXO esmee
I’m not sure! It only said “select” locations, which can be pretty limited, but they didn’t specify.
I was planning to get Only You. But the short wear time and the dryness issue is taking off my wish list. Thanks for reviewing as always Christine! 🙂
My pleasure, Nicole! Are Cremesheens usually hydrating for you? It might not be drying for you in that case!
I think the lipsticks are both very similar in colour – which is a shame because a contrasting, alternative colour would have been better commercially. Love that Paradis eye liner Christine. Such a beautiful colour.
I agree — they could have made one at least a few more shades darker or lighter!
Too similar. I’ve pretty much stopped bothering with MAC. The quality isn’t what it used to be and I find most of their new colors a yawn
I like the colors and the opacity but they would both look rubbish on me!
Only You looks lovely!
Lovely review! These are my kind of shades. Do you think they are too warm-toned to suit cool, fair skin?
I think so!
I’m fair and cool. I got the Only You and I’m not too happy with it. I just ordered the Without Your Love and hope to like it better. I got the peach pencil gloss, and it works pretty well with the blush, the Explosion gold gloss is gorgeous, the Goodness Gracious gloss is a tad too warm, but I’m keeping it. If you can pull off shrimpy type colors you’re fine, but it work better for me if I learn toward a light warm pink rather than a true peach or coral. If that helps!
Do you think that Without Your Love is anything like Cute-ster? 🙂
Less peach but kind of!
I used to be a HUGE fan of MAC Lusteres until I got my hands on retro mattes and now I can’t seem to fathom paying $18.00 for in my opinion a tinted lip balm. I have my favorite Lusteres such as Freshbrew, Freckletone and Touch but those will remain being permanent staples in my collection. I don’t feel the need to add LE Lusteres to my ever growing lipstick collection which is too bad because the packaging in this collection is really nice.
