MAC Tattoo My Heart Versicolour Lip Stain
MAC Tattoo My Heart Versicolour Lip Stain ($24.00 for 0.28 fl. oz.) is described as a “bright pinky coral.” It’s a medium, orange-coral with warm undertones that gets rosier when it “sets” on the lips. The texture was thin, watery and developed into a slightly thicker, more gel-like consistency after a minute or two. It was unforgiving, though, as the gloss gathered in lip lines. FORMULA OVERVIEW | MAC Versicolour Lip Stain ($24.00 for 0.28 fl. oz.) is supposed to be a hybrid gloss and stain formula with a glossy shine, long-wear (eight-hours, specifically), “jelly-like texture,” and “stay-true colour.” Interesting discovery: under “usage” (on MAC’s website) the following is there: “As with many lips stains, lips might feel slightly dry over time … Product not recommended for use on overly dry or sensitive lips.” There is some good, specific information about these, though for color payoff isn’t as clear, so based on the fact that these are a gloss/lip stain hybrid (neither of which are typically opaque), I would expect noticeable color with translucency–like stained glass. The majority are fairly pigmented and are true-to-form as a lip stain, and they have a moderate shine. The consistency is thin, watery initially and develops into a slightly thicker, lightly tacky texture as it “sets.” It is one of the least-tacky textures of this type of formula (as it is similar to ones like YSL Glossy Stains, Giorgio Armani Ecstasy Lacquer, Tom Ford Patent Finish, L’Oreal Color Caresse). Some shades emphasized and gathered into lip lines, which may be due to the slightly thinner overall consistency (compared to other like formulas). The wear ranged from six to eight hours and was lightly to moderately drying over time. The formula has a subtle vanilla scent but no discernible taste.

I’m so upset that these are drying! These are so pretty, and I won’t be able to use them at all!
🙁 I totally understand your frustration!
I love those fresh, tropical colours, and the names are sweetly romantic!
Yay! Glad you’re diggin’ them!
Hmm, I was eyeing Tattoo My Heart, but not liking how it settles into lip lines 🙁 Forever Darling is gorgeous though
Guess that explains why we don’t see that many lighter shades in this type of formula 🙁
Oh man! Tattoo My Heart Versicolour is calling out to me! I haven’t really paid attention to much of MAC’s launches and updates but this Versicolour is EVERYWHERE!
Hope you can check it out sometime!
Tattoo My Heart is such a perfect shade for lazier summer days….except for its drying factor *could* be problematic. Especially with living in a hot, dry climate. Just weird that such a glossy, juicy looking formula would be so harsh!
There are definitely enough readers who find YSL’s Glossy Stains drying (which is a comparable formula) that it could be a concern – I wonder if it’s in the technology that takes it from thin/watery to gel-like.
I could well be, I’m thinking. Perhaps an alcohol-type chemical is what activities the liquid to transform into a less permeable gel stain finish? Or just stains themselves have some oddly inherent drying effect? Although, they still don’t sound as brutal as liquid mattes!
The former is what I was thinking myself!
Woot, Tattoo My Heart, finally 😀 I really love it, so glad I got it.
Yay!
These are all pretty. I wish they were more moisturizing!
Me too!
Hi Christine! Will you be putting all of the Versicolour review links in one post once you’ve gone through them all? I want to see them all before I buy and it’s a little difficult for me to try and find all of them separately. Thanks so much 🙂
I have two more that to review (they arrived late), but I haven’t even photographed/swatched them yet… so if IO do, it will not be for awhile. I am deeply sorry for failing you!
Eep! I hope you’re being sarcastic, you are definitely not failing anyone 😀 I so appreciate this site, and always marvel at how it runs so smoothly!
