MAC Pink Nouveau Lipstick ($14.50 for 0.10 oz.) has been such a top-seller that it has now inspired a Lipglass ($14.50 for 0.17 fl. oz.) and Nail Lacquer ($16.00 for 0.34 fl. oz.) to complement it. This shade is part of the Latin America/Middle East region of the collection, so it will only be available online for North American buyers and at select Macy’s. Pink Nouveau is described as “mid-tone cool pink.”
Both the gloss and lipstick are very similar in color, but the lipstick appears a bit lighter because of the creaminess. The coordinating nail lacquer is similar, but it is a little darker and brighter; it’s not quite as blue-based. When you layer the gloss on top of the lipstick, the result is a brightened blue-based pink (with almost a hint of lilac) with a glossy finish and opaque color. The two work well together, so there aren’t any concerns with the gloss causing unevenness.
Pink Nouveau Lipglass is a just slightly lightened medium bubblegum pink with cool, blue undertones. It has a creamy, partially milk-like finish, so it doesn’t apply as evenly as I’d like it to for a gloss worn on its own. There is some minor settling into lip lines. NARS Coeur Sucre is actually very, very similar to this–it has faint silvery-white sparkle, though. MAC Style Packed is in a similar vein but much deeper and more intense. MAC Sassy Lassy is pinker, more vibrant. (8.5, 9, 8.5, 9, 4, 4; B)
Pink Nouveau Lipstick is a cool-toned, blue-based light-medium pink. It reads a little cotton candy pink to me, though it’s cooler than that. It has opaque color coverage and a creamy finish with a subtle shine. It has a satin finish, and it is part of the permanent range. MAC Pink Popcorn has a similar feel but because it is so sheer, it looks quite different on. MAC Naughty Saute is glossier and a wee bit cooler-toned but just barely. MAC Viva Glam Gaga is lighter, not as purple-ish. MAC All Styled Up is lighter and not as bright. MAC Pink Friday is similar but not as pink. (9, 10, 9, 8.5, 4.5, 4; A-)
Pink Nouveau Nail Lacquer is a medium-dark pink with blue undertones. It’s opaque in two coats, and the formula was pretty good–it wasn’t too thick or too thin, and it applied evenly and fluidly across the nail. It’s not as blue-based, so it reads pinker and lacks that almost lilac-like edge of color. OCC Palare is darker, more fuchsia. MAC Ice Cream Cake is lighter–it’s more of a match than this shade. Ms. Perfectly Pink is more fuchsia, a bit darker. Zoya Jolene is a touch lighter. Zoya Lara is pretty close, perhaps a smidgen darker. (10, 10, 9.5, 9, 5, 4; A)
MAC Lipsticks are vanilla-scented but taste-free. Satin finishes like Pink Nouveau typically wear four to six hours on me, with lighter shades like this one wearing closer to four hours. MAC Lipglasses are also vanilla-scented but taste-free. They are very sticky and have a thick, borderline-goopy consistency. If you prefer gel-like, cushion-y glosses that feel lightweight on, I don’t recommend MAC Lipglass. Because of the tackier texture, MAC Lipglasses do tend to wear a full four hours on me, with some of the darker shades lasting up to six hours (with mostly the color lingering at that point).
Note: I am reviewing each “set” together. After I’ve reviewed all sixteen sets, I will do round-ups for each product type (so all lipsticks together) to deliver an overall Glossover rating. This rating is more indicative of the product type, as the rating that follows this post is an average across three totally different types of products. You can also see the individual scores listed after each product, which are listed in the same order as they are in the Glossover.

That lipglass color is SO pretty on you.
In all fairness, this shade really registers well in the camera. I have Pink Nouveau but still find it a bit tricky to wear, in terms of how it looks against my skin that is. I’d say our skin complexion is almost quite the same but i got confused in how this looked on you. It looks great on you, but on me it somehow makes my face appear darker than what it really is. Or maybe i’m not using it right? So confused, i thought blue-based lipsticks looks good on me since Ruby Woo works very well on me, it complements and lights up my face every time i wear it but Pink Nouveau is the exact opposite. HELP! I don’t wan to give up on this shade 🙁
@MSPMSP What are you pairing it with? Sometimes I find that a color can take on a life of its own based on what it’s worn with! It could also be perception?
Have you tried it with a dark smoky eye?
This kind of color looks totally silly on me, but I still love Pink Nouveau, so that makes me want to get the gloss…even though I RARELY use gloss. Hmm. I make sense, lol.
How does this lipglass compare to the viva glam gaga lipglass?
Viva Glam Gaga lipglass is much lighter 🙂
I am going to pick up the nail polish 🙂 The l/s and l/g are a little much for me.
Christine, you work your butt off! Holy crap! I can’t get over the amazing reviews you do! You’re awesome.
Hi, I’m Very fair but neutral. A little more yellow than pink. But overall neutral. Would cool or warm lipsticks look better on me? I get kind of confused. I usually just wear what I like. :O)
@Stevia If you are more neutral, then either 🙂
That polish is nice! I was going to buy stuff from this collection, but then I realized I don’t wear lipglass much any more (lipstick girl here…lol) and I have nail polishes that still haven’t been opened yet, AND I already have most of these lipsticks. Welp. More money for other beauty products…lol
Besides what’s on your lips, what other makeup products are you wearing? I need the 411. Your skin looks flawless! 🙂
All the products are listed in the FAQ! 🙂 I think I wore MUFE HD in these photos.
The polish is too warm toned. I like the look though.
How does it compare to Splashing lipglass?
Thank you for all your effort! I can imagine how painful it must be to remove lips and nails over and over again
Is this too different compared to Splashing lipglass?
Thank you so much for your effort! It must be painful wiping lip products and nail polish over and over again :/
@kathyhoogesteyn93 Oh, yes, quite different – Splashing is a warm pink 🙂
It’s so cute on you!
Thank you so much Christine! Can’t wait to see the reviews for the Snob set!
This is such a pretty Barbie pink on you. On me, Pink Nouveau is much darker and more fuchsia than cotton candy. 🙁 A MUA recently told me that my lips have blue undertones. Though they are not very pigented at all, it makes most lipsticks look a lot darker on me and swallows up any coral notes, like Viva Nicki, Force Of Love, Watch me Simmer etc. Blue toned ones like Viva Glam Gaga 1 look even bluer on me! Do you have any tips to counteract that effects with other products? I would appreciate any help you can give. 🙂
I would think you could try counteracting the blue undertones by using peach underneath? Have you tried maybe using a peach or brown lip liner prior to applying the lip color? Or maybe even just a coordinating lip liner would help to minimize the change of the lipstick.
The lipstick is very blue-toned while the nail polish is very warm-toned, the should have made them match more.
I remember swatching this lipstick at the counter and thinking, oh it’s so pretty but too pink for me lol. I have blond hair, brown eyes and very fair skin so this lipstick would never look good on me – but still I think it’s super pretty.
This is my favorite MAC lipstick, so I’m really excited to get the gloss!
i love the nail colour and gloss
