MAC Frosted Firework Extra Dimension Foiled Eyeshadows Reviews & Swatches
Sparktacular
MAC Sparktacular Extra Dimension Foil Eye Shadow ($21.00 for 0.046 oz.) is a light, golden peach with strong, warm undertones and flecks of lighter gold and darker copper sparkle throughout. It had a particularly shiny and wet-looking finish. This shade was described as “sheer,” whereas the formula is, generally, described as “highly pigmented,” and it was, in fact, sheer.
The coverage did not build up much, even when applied with a dry brush or a fingertip. The texture was somewhat drier and dustier, which resulted in some fallout during application and later on during wear (about seven hours of decent wear).

Formula Overview
$21.00/0.046 oz. - $456.52 Per Ounce
The wet/dry formula is supposed to have "stay-true colour" with "uncompromised colour clarity" and "colour intensity" that is "long-wearing" and "non-creasing." There are only four shades in the initial launch (hopefully, we'll see more shades in the future or some made permanent), but they were pigmented both wet and dry, blendable, and had good adhesion with minimal to light fallout.
The pigmentation was always more intense, slightly richer, and the texture smoother and less prone to fallout when applied with a wet brush, but the formula was easily used dry, too, if preferred. The texture was smooth to the touch, dense and firmer but not stiff to work with; they had a slight dryness to them that I find present in these gel-powder hybrid type products (as well as baked/mineralized products) that doesn't interfere with the application, adhesion, or wear.
The formula was consistent, generally, with the original Extra Dimension formula--just shinier, more sparkly, and a bit more vibrant.

Firewerk the Room
MAC Firewerk the Room Extra Dimension Foil Eye Shadow ($21.00 for 0.046 oz.) is a medium red with strong, warm undertones and flecks of gold and red micro-sparkle over a more metallic finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, regardless of whether it was applied with a dry or dampened brush.
The consistency was more moderately-dense, not quite as dry as other shades launched alongside it, but it wasn’t quite as smooth and refined as the original Foiled formula. The eyeshadow applied evenly with minimal fallout during application and lasted for eight hours on me.

Silver Bells
MAC Silver Bells Extra Dimension Foil Eye Shadow ($21.00 for 0.046 oz.) is a medium-dark gray with silver and darker gray micro-sparkle. It had semi-sheer pigmentation applied dry and mostly opaque coverage applied with a dampened brush. The texture was somewhat dry and almost chunky, which resulted in a lot of the sparkle coming away from the base pigment that led to fallout during application. This shade wore well for eight hours with light fallout over time.

Explosive Chemistry
MAC Explosive Chemistry Extra Dimension Foil Eye Shadow ($21.00 for 0.046 oz.) is a medium-dark pink with subtle, cooler undertones and warmer, golden sparkle throughout. The consistency was drier, almost chunky at times, and was not as easy to work with as the original release of Foiled shades in this formula.
It had semi-sheer to medium pigmentation when applied dry and semi-opaque coverage when applied with a dampened brush, but the real surprise was how little dampened application smoothed out the application of product. It stayed on decently for eight hours but had light fallout over time.

Cooler Than Being Cool
MAC Cooler Than Being Cool Extra Dimension Foil Eye Shadow ($21.00 for 0.046 oz.) is a pale, silvery white base with flecks of iridescent sparkle that shifted between lavender and cooler pink. It had sheer color coverage when applied dry, and when using it with a dampened brush, coverage only intensified to semi-sheer.
The texture was drier, more powdery, and prone to fallout, which made it harder to work with. I thought applying it with a fingertip would help, but it applied unevenly, still had some fallout, and coverage remained more semi-sheer to medium. It lasted for eight hours but had light fallout over time.

Not that I need them, or will likely even get them, but I still love Firewerk The Room and Sparktacular. I would buy them if not for the fact that I already have quite a few similar shades, though.
Kind of a mixed bag with more on the bottom half than the top. I do like several shades but between scores of C and D I am passing. I don’t really need them either. I have been really enjoying Indie brands and feel better about supporting smaller brands.
I was just thinking that – going to check Sydney Grace to see about dupes.
These foiled eyeshadow results are really inconsistent, with the red shade being the best of the bunch. The rest are really poor and there are much better dupes around with SG.
Thank you for the review Christine.
Omg I wish they’d bring back the formula from their Xmas 2018 collection. The pretty shiny shadows were 10x these…😔 bummer.
Hmpf!
Why MAC?
I love the look of Silver Bells, while reading I kept thinking, I can live with this, I can make it work. Then I came to the word “chunky” and that was that, chunky and fall put are two things that makes it an absolute no.
Thanks so much for reviewing and saving us all some money!
I gave up on MAC a long time ago. They had nice products but then they just stopped paying attention to quality. The colors are beautiful until you go to use them. I would say these are a big disappointment but I would have to have expectations to be disappointed. It’s really sad.
