MAC Fall in Love & Lasting Passion Powder Kiss Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches
Fall in Love
MAC Fall in Love Powder Kiss Lipstick ($19.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a deep fuchsia with warmer undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had medium pigmentation that did not apply evenly and emphasized the texture of my lips. The lipstick had a smooth, velvety consistency with some slip but ran thinner so it didn’t slide around while worn. There was nothing about how it felt that indicated why it applied so poorly to my lips, especially as the deeper shades and shades prior and after this that I applied looked significantly better on. This shade stayed on well for four and a half hours and was neither drying nor hydrating, but it did seem to get noticeably patchier over time.

Formula Overview

MAC Powder Kiss Lipstick ($19.00 for 0.10 oz.) is supposed to feel "weightless" with a "blur of effortless soft-focus color." Per the brand, the formula "provides immediate and long-term hydration" while "blur[ring] lines and smooth[ing] lips" and having "zero-shine." They have a bit of shine and slip; I wouldn't call them zero-shine so much as very smooth and more like a natural or soft matte finish. Like any finish with slight shine, they did wear down to a more, flat matte finish within an hour or so of wear. The consistency was lightweight, thin, and velvety with a bit of slip (a little like a silicone primer to me) and was comfortable to wear with a non-drying to lightly hydrating feel.
The pigmentation ranged from semi-opaque to opaque with deeper shades having more coverage. There were a few very light shades, which did not apply as evenly and had a tendency to catch on any imperfections on my lips, whereas the deeper shades went on more smoothly and looked more flattering on as they were less likely to emphasize texture. They lasted between two and a half and six hours with deeper shades, unsurprisingly, lasting longer than the ultra-light ones.
I personally found the scent of these to be noticeably different, both that it was sweeter and less vanilla-based but I also got a strong rubber scent that came through. The scent did not linger for long, so it wasn't something that I detected throughout the wear, but it had a strong, sweet taste that was present until it was gone. Other readers who have smelled the formula in person did not catch any rubber/off-putting scent (my husband thought it smelled weird, not bad per se, but couldn't be more specific), and when I went back to double check each shade, each one of mine still had that rubbery note.

Lasting Passion
MAC Lasting Passion Powder Kiss Lipstick ($19.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a bright red with neutral-to-cool undertones and a satin finish. It had good color coverage that applied evenly and smoothly across my lips without gathering in my lip lines. I actually felt that this shade smoothed out my lip texture, as opposed to emphasizing it like a lot of the other shades in the formula did (and blurring lip lines was something it was supposed to do!). The texture was lightweight, thin but velvety enough to glide on without dragging, and was comfortable to wear. It lasted for five hours and was lightly hydrating over time.

I don’t see so much in the photos that the first one is catching on texture—not like the paler colors. Too bad bc it’s a bright but flattering color. The second one is just as pretty. I have one of these on the way so I can test the formula.
The powder kiss line seems to be a bit hit and miss, although I do really love Burning Love. I picked it up after your review. The color looks amazing on you; and, on the makeup artist who sold me my tube. And we are all differently toned; but, the color just seems to light up the face, if you will. Your reviews always head me off in the right direction. So, thanks for your honesty.
Lasting Passion looks like a good “daytime/work/school appropriate” shade of red or good for anyone who may be a bit intimidated by the thought of wearing a full-on red lipstick. I actually love it myself! And I do wear plenty of full force red lipsticks out and about, but this could still hold a valuable spot in my stash!
I love both of these colors and the blotted finish. I think they’re just lovely for a bright yet subtle look.
