LORAC Tails & Top Hats Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Tails & Top Hats
LORAC Tails & Top Hats Eyeshadow Palette ($18.00 for 0.41 oz.) contains seven eyeshadows housed in a slim, cardboard palette with a mirror under the lid. While it seemed compact, it contained quite a bit of product! I was more impressed by this palette than I anticipated, as the eyeshadows were pigmented with soft, blendable textures and lasted a decent length of time. The formula runs thinner and soft enough that it can be dusty, so it will wear longer over a primer for sure, but I didn’t have any trouble getting pigmentation or applying them without primer.
This palette is exclusive to Ulta as a Black Friday doorbuster, which means that it will be available today (November 24th) at 5PM CT.

Tails & Top Hats #1
Tails & Top Hats #1 is a very light, pinkish white with a matte finish. It had good color payoff with a slightly dustier texture, which made it appear a little drier and starker against my skin tone but would be less noticeable on fairer complexions. It started to fade after seven hours of wear.

Tails & Top Hats #2
Tails & Top Hats #2 is a muted, dark brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had medium, buildable coverage, but it was one of the less pigmented shades in the palette. The texture was noticeably dusty and thinner, so it sheered out easily without a primer or base underneath it. This shade wore for six and a half hours on me.

Tails & Top Hats #3
Tails & Top Hats #3 is a dark taupe brown with subtle, warm undertones and a frosted finish. It had opaque color payoff paired with a soft, smooth, and blendable texture that wasn’t too firm or too soft in the pan. It applied well to bare skin and lasted for seven and a half hours on me.

Tails & Top Hats #4
Tails & Top Hats #4 is a muted, plummy taupe with subtle, warm undertones and a satin shimmer finish. It had good pigmentation, though not quite opaque, which was buildable to full coverage in two layers. The texture was soft, a smidgen dusty but did not appear dry or sheer out too easily on the lid. This shade started to fade after seven hours on me.

Tails & Top Hats #5
Tails & Top Hats #5 is a medium-dark black with neutral-to-cool undertones paired with a matte finish. The consistency was soft, smooth, and incredibly blendable–it was one of the easiest black eyeshadows to use! I think the less intense take on black made it easier to build up and work with, too. It had good pigmentation and wore well for eight hours before fading.

Tails & Top Hats #6
Tails & Top Hats #6 is a light peach with warm undertones and a frosted shimmer-sheen finish. The texture was incredibly soft and moderately dusty, so this shade had a tendency to sheer out as soon as I started to blend it. I think some might like the translucency, but it could have more density and binder to it without losing its ease of blending. This shade only wore for six hours on me.

Tails & Top Hats #7
Tails & Top Hats #7 is a medium brown with strong, warm orange undertones and a pearly sheen. This had a very, very subtle shift to teal in its shimmer, but it was difficult to see, even when contorting my arm to try and catch the shift. (I absolutely could not detect it applied to the lid!) The consistency was soft, smooth, and blendable without being dusty or powdery. It was richly pigmented and lasted for just over seven hours on me.

Even though I have every intention of buying Viseart Chroma Theory palette come Dec. 1st, I may still try to get this one too! I’ve just been in a smokey, taupey, dark mindset recently…. usually with dark plum or berry lips to match.
It came together quite nicely on!
Thank you for reviewing this so quickly! Not sure if I have to get it-won’t shop tomorrow at stores. Maybe online! Happy Thanksgiving!
I’m glad I was able to get them up in time, lol!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Actually this is a lot better than I thought yesterday. Much nicer and a handy little travel kit too. Beautiful, versatile shades. A really lovely eye look Christine.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
Thank you so much, Genevieve! Happy Thanksgiving to you if you are celebrating… I am not sure that you do, lol!
We technically don’t celebrate Thanksgiving here in Australia, although I think it is a wonderful tradition and one we aught to adopt. After all, we have adopted so many traditions from other nations being such a multicultural country that we are.
That’s what I thought, but you never know 😉
I don’t know why the Ulta ad showed this as an olive green palette, I was so excited, as those are pretty rare. Guess it was a total misprint. The palette is ok and the colors go well together, but olive green would’ve been great. Thanks for reviewing so quickly! Hope you have a great Thanksgiving!
It is bizarre! They aren’t anything alike (promo photo to real life)… it’s not a case of oh, the photo looks warmer/cooler, lol!
Happy Thanksgiving, Katherine!
I was on the fence about this palette and found your review just in time! I love all these tones and actually relieved there aren’t any blues or greens which tend to make me look bruised. (I’m an NC35). Thank you for working over the holidays, this review really helped me out! I can’t wait to receive it!
I very much prefer this to the other one but I have dupes for every single shade in it, which is a balm to my eyeshadow loving soul since Lorac is no longer available in Canada and hasn’t been for years. When we go to the US and we’re near an ULTA, that’s my chance to get Lorac products but I’ll have to miss out on this one (not that I need it in the least!)
If I have to choose between this one and Black Tie Attire I’d go for the latter.
This looks a little cooler in the pans but it’s another pass for me.
Darn!
