Liquid Lipsticks | 2020 Editor's Favorites

Liquid lipsticks have been trending down–at least in terms of reviews here, which is a partial reflection of trends, what readers are into, and what is releasing!–since 2019, though I think more readers reached for some past releases to get through mask-wearing during 2020! That being said, there were just under 80 liquid lipsticks reviewed by yours truly this year. In the past, I’ve split this post into under $15 and over $15, but this year skewed higher-end to begin with, so here’s a combined list of my favorites from 2020!

If you’re unfamiliar with how I like to do my year-end favorites, here’s the low down: I pull from the products I reviewed in 2020, regardless of whether they were new, limited edition, or an established range I’ve only just gotten around to reviewing. These are personal favorites, so they may or may not be the highest rated products reviewed during the year (though they will tend to be better rated, naturally!). (You can check out best of 2019 if you missed last year’s.)

Please keep discussion on-topic, and if you have general feedback, a product review request, an off-topic question, or need technical support, please contact us!

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

Did you reach for liquid lipstick more or less in 2020? Waaay more! This being totally due to our pandemic necessitating mask wearing.

What liquid lipsticks did you use the most this past year? The 4 I have in the Sephora Cream Lip Stain formula, MAC Siempre Selena and a few ColourPop USLS’s. Shade wise, Blaze Of Glory, Vintage Rose and Endless Purple may have seen the most usage.

Have you fallen in love with liquid lipsticks again this past year? From a place of necessity, I have. Under a mask, I can tolerate them because they never get too drying while removing and replacing my mask back on my face when I go out.

Did you reach for liquid lipstick more or less in 2020? Less, because when I was out I wore a mask. Plus, I just reached for makeup in general less. Pre-COVID, I was wearing glosses and sheer bullet lipsticks more.

What liquid lipsticks did you use the most this past year? MAC Siempre Selena
Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour (Nancy T. was right, it holds up under a mask). Pre-mask wearing, Ciate Glitter Flips, Too Faced Queen B Melted Matte Liquified Long Wear Matte Lipstick, Bite Beauty Cava Amuse Bouche Liquified Lipstick, and J* Scorpio Velour Liquid Lipstick.

Have you fallen in love with liquid lipsticks again this past year? I like them as much as I did before. I always preferred bullet lipsticks, but when I had to wear something under my mask, liquid was the way to go.

Did you reach for liquid lipstick more or less in 2020? Definitely more!! Liquid lipsticks are the only ones that stay on under my mask all day.
What liquid lipsticks did you use the most this past year? Jeffrey star androgeny and Leo. Pumpkin pie also got some play
Have you fallen in love with liquid lipsticks again this past year? I always loved them. Perhaps more so this year due to all the mask wearing.

Definitely reached for liquid lipstick less this year. When I did it was either for a poppin red (TooFaced’s Lady Balls) or my eternal favorite nude Melt Cosmetic’s Dreamboy. Such a gorgeous and flattering color on my skin.

Did you reach for liquid lipstick more or less in 2020? A bit more than the previous year.

What liquid lipsticks did you use the most this past year? Em Cosmetics Rose Nude and Faded Clementine, Nabla Liquid Lipstick in My Rules

Have you fallen in love with liquid lipsticks again this past year? Not really, though I did find some formulas that I really like.

Did you reach for liquid lipstick more or less in 2020? About the same. I never wore makeup out once the pandemic hit, so wearability with a mask was never a consideration

What liquid lipsticks did you use the most this past year? MAC Matte Lip Mousse in “My Better Half”

Have you fallen in love with liquid lipsticks again this past year? Not really. I started wearing makeup right around the time liquid lipsticks started falling out of fashion, and with how dry my lips can be the liquid lipstick must be very comfortable and not too drying
