Kat Von D Satellite & Poe Everlasting Lip Liners Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Satellite
Kat Von D Satellite Everlasting Lip Liner ($18.00 for 0.009 oz.) is a bright, medium blue with subtle, cool undertones and a pearly sheen. It had good color coverage in a single pass, though it was harder to get really even, opaque coverage when I tried to fill in both my upper and lower lips with the pencil. I noticed that while it had felt creamy on the very first use, the outer edge dried out a bit for the next use (even though I put the cap back on!) so I had to get through that layer before it felt creamy again. There isn’t a lot of product in the tube (most twist-up liners have similar amounts of product), so wasting any is less than ideal! The color applied with moderate unevenness, but I was able to press my lips together and minimize some of it. It started to break down after seven and a half hours of wear, and as soon as I ate, over half of it came off (not a particularly greasy meal). The upside was that the formula was lightweight and non-drying.
The Everlasting Lip Liner is supposed to have “24-hour wear” with “water-resistant wear and weightless color” that has the “ultimate pigmentation.” It was created to be paired with Kat Von D’s liquid and regular lipstick ranges but also “worn on its own.” The formula has been fairly creamy, which made it easy to line the edges of my lips, but the skinnier pencil made it less practical for really filling in the lips. I also felt like that, while creamy, some shades still skipped when I attempted to fill in my lips. The texture was more of a soft matte initially, which enabled me to press my lips together and even out some of the product before it fully dried down. It was water-resistant, and I had no trouble drinking water or coffee, but I’ve yet to try one that actually made it through a meal particularly well–they all wore substantially away from the center of the lips and turn patchy by the end of a meal. The Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks tend to wear longer on me, actually. The formula was neither drying nor hydrating. Some were more wearable (in terms of evenness) on their own than others.

Poe
Kat Von D Poe Everlasting Lip Liner ($18.00 for 0.009 oz.) is a deep, navy blue with strong, cool undertones and barely-there blue pearl. It had good pigmentation in a single stroke, and it was lightly creamy, though it tugged slightly on the lips. The color applied fairly even across the lips, including when I tried to wear it as a standalone shade, but I had to press and gently rub my lips together to even out the overall color. It lasted for about seven hours–as soon as I ate, it had completely worn away from the center of my lips and faded noticeably everywhere else. It was neither drying nor hydrating on me.
It matches Poe Studded Kiss Lipstick well, particularly as it is a bit darker, so it gave the more emollient texture of the Studded Kiss shade better adhesion.

So glad you’re reviewing these, as I was contemplating adding one to my VIB sale wishlist. I’ll wait and see how the reviews go. Happy Easter, and thanks for all you do!
No problem! In general, I think if you like twist-up liners and need some non-standard colors to fill in your gaps, they’re worth considering.
I’m excited to try some of these. The range of colors is impressive!I saw them swatched on her Utube channel.Poe looks pretty good for being such a dark color.Colors like these seem harder for lines to formulate.I wonder if using these under the Kat Von D liquid lipsticks would help them apply more evenly in one coat or possibly make them feel a little less drying on the lips.In my opinion her liquid lipsticks at least the older ones are on the dryer side of the liquid lipstick spectrum.I haven’t tried any of the newest shades like Miss Argentina or Muñeca.
The liner will definitely improve any unevenness issues, as long as the liner itself is fairly even! 🙂
I’m going to purchase Poe to match the lipstick!!!!
Thank you for helping me decide Christine!!
No problem, Shannon!
🙁 I had high hopes for these.
Me too! Well, maybe less high hopes when I read 24-hours, lol.
That claim really kills the grade. It’s so over-the-top.
So far, even just setting aside the exact 24 hour claim, they aren’t substantially longer wearing than the average lip liner! They’re not bad at all, but they are not as innovative as I feel like they’re marketing the formula as.
Ugh, these are a bit disappointing. Poe definitely seems like the easiest to work with out of the two, although I love both colors.
Aside from the 24-hour claim, they function well enough as typical lip liner, but they aren’t amazing as a standalone lip color — better for lining.
Aaaaccckkk!!! I was planning to pick up a few colors (the 2 darker purples) during the upcoming Sephora sale, but yikes!!! I wasn’t expecting 24 hr wear (who wants to wear lip liner for 24 hrs anyway???) but the formula doesn’t sound that great, hoping it will wear better if used to just outline lips vs. filling them in, but what bugs me is it sounds like at least one of the shades dries out too quickly, and if there’s less than .01 oz in there, could be running thru that way too fast at $18 a pop!
Yeah, my husband and I were discussing the 24-hour wear time claim, and I was like, “That can’t be tested without eating/drinking… there’s an assumption there that it will make it through your entire day’s routine!” but not making it through even one meal was a bummer.
I’m going to go back in a week or so and see how some of these feel after being capped for a week.
I think if you are just using it the line the edges of the lips, you’ll be OK!
I absolutely love the Satellite color and would wear that in a heartbeat. Too bad it got such a low review!
The color was intense!
Wow, that 24-hour wear claim really tanked the scores on these. Hopefully the other shades will do better.
It did 🙁 They are longer wearing – but they are, so far, pretty on par with most lip liners I’ve tried (6-8 hours).
It’s too bad they claimed 24-hour wear and stand-alone wear. If they had made claims that these were basically typical liners to match her range of lipsticks the scores would have been significantly higher. They don’t look bad, just not consistent with the lofty claims.
Exactly! 🙁 I feel like when I read the description, they sound magical and innovative… and they are just a solid lip liner!
I’ve only tried one (Lolita) and agree 100%. I’d much rather wear the everlasting liquid or even the tube lippy version. The liner was a big disappointment. That’s what I get for not waiting for a review, but I spotted it in store and got excited. Bad me. At least I only bought one.
I’m glad I’m not the only one! The ELLs seem to wear better overall. I think the liners make sense with Studded Kiss shades (especially if they’re going to get more emollient like the Rock Candy ones) and to fill in gaps in the industry (in general) for some non-traditional lipstick shades. They could also work to amp up some of the liquid lipsticks that might not apply perfectly or for edges… but definitely doesn’t replace the ELL itself!
LAME! I wanted Poe!
Darn!!
It’s a shame about these lacking staying power through a meal. Or getting past the 7 hr. mark. Not that I’d be wanting to wear a lip liner or lipstick for “24 Hours”, but my Nyx liners last better! However, I now feel compelled to use my MAC Blue Peep veeerrry soon in a look.???
I was really surprised they didn’t hold up better through a meal!
Awe shucks! I was going to pick up one of these at the Sephora sale!!! But it doesn’t look like they’re all they are reported to be…. so I’ll pass. Patchy, and uneven. No thank you. The colors are stunning however.
Thanks, Christina for your always honest, earnest review!!!
Gina
My pleasure, Gina!
That “wearing off in the middle” is mostly to be expected, to me, but it still drives me crazy. Sets my ocd into high gear where I’m checking my lipstick every 10 minutes. I just wear sheer gloss now to alleviate my anxiety. But I still really like the colors of these.
I’m glad you found something that works for you! 😀
Thank you SO much for posting ingredients – they were not on Kat’s website nor Sephora! I have allergies so ingredients are a must and I hate ordering things I have to return because ingredients weren’t available. You’re the best!
No problem, Jen!
