Guerlain Beaugrenelle Ecrin 6 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette
Guerlain Beaugrenelle Ecrin 6 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette ($93.00 for 0.25 oz.) is a set of cooler-toned, blue-leaning shades that range from a silver to blue to navy blue. I’m not keen on the formula Guerlain’s been using in their recent eyeshadow palettes, as it is drier with a dusty feel that makes them prone to fading, sheering out, and generally not apply well. I wish there was more hold to these, and the eyeshadows would bind better so they would be easier to use. At this price point, it leaves me completely disappointed.
Beaugrenelle #1 is a light, silvered taupe with a fine, gold pearl and a frosted finish. It had semi-sheer color coverage with a dry, dusty consistency that made it hard to apply and keep from sheering out on the lid. It lasted for seven hours before noticeably fading. MAC Breaking Ground (LE, $21.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Urban Decay Bones (LE, $19.00) is warmer (85% similar). Urban Decay Verve (DC, $19.00) is warmer (85% similar). Chanel Tisse Riviera #3 (PiP, ) is darker (85% similar). Urban Decay Midnight 15 (LE, $19.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Guerlain Taupe Secret (01) (P, $34.00) is darker, warmer (80% similar). Bobbi Brown Rockstar (LE, $22.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Beaugrenelle #2 is a muted, medium-dark gray with a bluish tinge and a matte finish. The texture was very smooth and silky with a real creaminess to it that made it very easy to blend on the skin. It wore for eight hours before fading. Anastasia Slate (LE, $12.00) is cooler (95% similar). Makeup Geek Concrete Jungle (DC, $6.00) is darker (95% similar). Hello Kitty Playdate (LE, ) is lighter (95% similar). NARS Delphes #2 (DC, $25.00) is darker (90% similar). KVD Beauty Sarah (LE, ) is lighter (90% similar). Viseart Grande Pro (Vol. 1) #23 (LE, ) is darker (90% similar). Sephora + Pantone Universe Deep Taupe (LE, ) is warmer (90% similar). Sydney Grace Concrete Road (P, $5.25) is cooler (85% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty For Less (PiP, ) is brighter, cooler (85% similar). Inglot #339 (P, $6.00) is darker (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Beaugrenelle #3 is a light beige with warm undertones and a satin sheen. It had good pigmentation with a soft, silky consistency that was easily blended on the skin but doesn’t stick as well to bare skin so I would recommend a primer with this one. It started to fade after seven and a half hours of wear. Marc Jacobs Beauty She Was (PiP, ) is more shimmery (95% similar). NARS Mojave #4 (PiP, $19.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (95% similar). bareMinerals Natural #2 (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). Sephora Linen (LE, ) is lighter (95% similar). Tarte Eggnog (LE, ) is lighter (95% similar). Too Faced Queen Bee (LE, $16.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). LORAC Cool Taupe (Mega Pro 4) (LE, $19.00) is lighter, cooler (95% similar). KVD Beauty Rust (Highlight) (PiP, ) is lighter, cooler (95% similar). Sephora Canvas (LE, ) is brighter (95% similar). MAC Nano Nude #1 (LE, $21.00) is warmer (95% similar). NARS Bellissima #1 (DC, $25.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Wet 'n' Wild Mythicool Creatures #2 (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (90% similar). Makeup Geek Vanilla Bean (DC, $6.00) is darker (90% similar). bareMinerals Celebrate (LE, ) is more shimmery (90% similar). Divergent Serene Vanilla (LE, ) is warmer (90% similar). Beaugrenelle #4 is a muted, medium-dark blue with a pearly sheen. It had so-so pigmentation with a drier, dust texture that was harder to apply to the skin. It lost a lot of intensity applied, as it didn’t adhere well to bare lids. On me, I couldn’t achieve more than semi-sheer pigmentation and had noticeable fading after six and a half hours. Chanel Tisse Riviera #1 (PiP, ) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Make Up For Ever I112 Chrome (DC, $21.00) is more muted (90% similar). MAC Bright Moon (LE, $21.00) is cooler (90% similar). Urban Decay Strip (DC, $19.00) is more shimmery, brighter (90% similar). Too Faced Midnight in Paris (LE, $16.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Smashbox Steel (P, ) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Clinique Big Blue (P, $17.00) is darker (90% similar). Too Faced Blueberry Swirl (PiP, $16.00) is darker, more muted (90% similar). Anastasia Dragonfly (P, $12.00) is darker (85% similar). NABLA Cosmetics Fantasize (PiP, ) is more shimmery, darker, brighter (85% similar). NARS L'Amour, Toujours L'Amour #9 (DC, $25.00) is darker (80% similar). Fyrinnae Mermaid Masquerade (P, $8.50) is darker (80% similar). Ulta Teal (P, $10.00) is more shimmery, warmer (80% similar). Beaugrenelle #5 is a muted, dark navy blue with a matte finish. The color payoff was good, while the texture felt soft and silky, though it was thin. Applied, I struggled to apply it evenly, as it became patchy the more I worked with it on the bare lid. Over primer, it applies more evenly, but it needs some extra time and patience. It wore well for eight hours on me. Giorgio Armani #02 (P, $32.00) is darker (95% similar). bareMinerals Maven (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). ColourPop Merryweather (LE, $4.50) is darker (95% similar). LORAC Stingray (LE, $19.00) is darker (95% similar). Tarte Inked (LE, ) is darker (90% similar). Estee Lauder Saphir (LE, ) is darker (90% similar). NARS Kamchatka (DC, $25.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). NABLA Cosmetics Zodiac (PiP, $8.00) is darker (85% similar). MAC Midnight Shadows (LE, $22.00) is brighter (85% similar). NABLA Cosmetics Blue Velvet (P, $8.00) is darker, brighter (85% similar). Inglot #332 (P, $6.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). NYX Leather and Studs (P, $4.50) is lighter, warmer (80% similar). Make Up For Ever M226 Abyssal Blue (P, $17.00) is lighter, cooler (80% similar). Charlotte Tilbury Super Blue #4 (LE, ) is darker, brighter (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Beaugrenelle #6 is a muted, blackened blue with a matte finish. It’s a cream eyeliner, and it is fairly firm/stiff in the pan, so it is really prone to apply unevenly on the skin as there is quite a bit of drag. I would recommend applying as your eyeliner, and then using a smudging brush to blur some of the unevenness, as the formula is blendable. It wore well for eight and a half hours as an eyeliner on the lower lash line. KVD Beauty Tornay (DC, ) is warmer (95% similar). Inglot #389 (P, $6.00) is darker (95% similar). LORAC Dark Navy (LE, $19.00) is darker (90% similar). Tarte Inked (LE, ) is cooler (90% similar). Tarte Midnight Kiss (LE, ) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Grey Horizon (LE, $17.00) is warmer (90% similar). Tarte Starry Night (LE, ) is cooler (90% similar). NABLA Cosmetics Zodiac (PiP, $8.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). MAC Prussian (DC, $17.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Oh no. That’s too bad. I’ve actually never tried a Guerlain eye shadow/palette and am sadden by the fact that apparently the formula has changed for the worst? 🙁
The new ones have been disappointing 🙁
Oh Christine, I give up on Guerlain’s eyeshadows! I remember how pigmented they were when the first edition les couleurs were out. 🙁
Now I look to the cheaper formulas who do it better.
It seems that when they tried to “Relaunch” it became poorer.
They used to be better 🙁
The packaging on this is just stunning. I really like this color combination too. But, I agree $93 is ridiculous for it not to perform to a T.
On another note, I’ve been trying to figure out how to read the “Reader Reviews” .Is that possible? Or is it just the ratings by stars?
The filigree lid is really lovely, but the actual product is a let-down!
If you click the product name, you can go to the page where it’ll show any written reviews! The break out of the stars will show “Based on # reviews, # quick reviews” – quick reviews aren’t full written reviews, they’re just a star rating + any tags (like easy to apply).
Okay. thanks!
Annnd…another pricey palette bites the dust! At $93, this one just isn’t worth it with anything less than an A+. I wonder what is going on lately with so many HE eyeshadow formulas of late? Even a few Sephora MUA’s are scratching their heads, many are reverting to spongetips and dark bases to make stuff work up to par! And yes, I know Sephora is a dirty word today, but I have nothing against the MUA’s or store workers.
I’m not entirely sure! It does seem like a lot of the designer/high-end brands have changed their formulas to be even sheerer/softer.
Hey Christine, I have this and it’s a bit of a disaster. On top of everything else you mentioned, I get fallout from the taupe (same as Taupe Secret from their new single eyeshadows). It just feels like while the new texture is softer, it is also more powdery and the shimmer doesn’t bind well together. I’d love to hear your take on the other pieces. I do like the gloss and the tinted lip balm!
The new texture is definitely softer, and I’m not sure why they in the direction they did! They choose some odd textures, I think, in their products lately – very soft eyeshadows, firmer face products!
The packaging is beautiful but for $ 93, the shadows have to perform better. I’m sticking with my Dior Bleu de Paris palette –it’s not perfect, but the blues perform much better, and it’s a lot cheaper. Christine, I just submitted a review of the Burberry Shadow in Stone Blue shadow ( it’s terrible even with primer). Just want to make sure you got it, as there’s no message saying it went through. Thanks!
Hmm, today? I am not seeing anything from you, but I know for sure I have approved a few other written reviews today so it appeared to be working.
Yes, I sent the review twice today. Do you have to Sign Up to write a review? Under the old website, I had to Sign Up but new website doesn’t say so. But I had a problem signing up under old website. I tried to Sign Up again today, but I’m getting the same error message as before – Username must be lowercase and I’m using all lower case
Hey Katherine,
Yes, you have to be a registered user for that functionality.
Could you email me at christine[at]temptalia.com with what user name + email you were trying to sign-up with? I don’t know why it is giving you that error message at all or why it is still giving that message (it was completely reworked).
Thank you for your patience!
I’m kind of glad this wasn’t an A palette….the color composition of this is pretty close to perfection for me!! Honestly, after I saw the patchiness of the eye look you did, I was shocked this rated a B (and I know it’s not an application issue!! I’ve seen you make F shadows look amazing!)! $93 temptation averted!
The look is just using three of the six, so that might be why! (Two of which are so close to my skin tone, so they do get lost on me, even though they are there, lol.)
It’s really too bad that this doesn’t perform better, because I think the combination of colours is quite pretty. At that price point, I would expect a pretty flawless product!
I agree — it needs to be perfect at this price!
Not really my colors, but it’s a pretty palette.
The colors are nice as a theme!
Are Guerlain eyeshadows as perfumed as the Meteorites or their foundations? I love the finish of those products but the perfume is just too much for me. These are such pretty colors. Wish the quality was a bit better.
I don’t think they have a scent…
A bit sheer for my taste. Too bad because the shades work together beautifully!
It did seem like a promising combo!
I’m excited to see how the blushes and lip items perform. I’ve never really cared for their eyeshadows. I’m in love with their lipsticks & foundation!
Fingers crossed!
This looks so beautiful in the pan (how I wish they made those glorious compacts refillable – just like their lipsticks, it is beyond a shame that these cannot be reused and filled with new product – so wasteful!) but at almost $100, honestly, this quality is unacceptable! I will settle for dupes!
That would be nice if they did! The packaging is lovely, and the 6-pans are SO heavy compared to other palettes, but I don’t think the heft merits the price (and it makes it less travel-friendly).
Ugh, that’s a bit of a letdown.
It is!
Pity on such a nice packaging!
I like some of the colours in this palette, other’s would not get used so much, so even if it had got good grades it would not be for me.
Is it just me or are eyeliner in “gel” formula included in palettes not the best idea? I find them to get dry very quickly, and they are rarely as good as a pencil or one in a pot.
Yes — they get SO dry!!
Wow – I can really see what you mean Christine by looking at the swatches. The formula is very dry and stiff – no wonder it was hard to apply. What a major disappointment. I find Guerlain does shades of blue and grey really well – but oh the formula makes it difficult to love. And I was prepared to love this.
The only colour I liked in the end was the steel blue – number 4. Guerlain should go back to the Les Gris and Les Aqua formulas. I have both of these (thanks to your reviews Christine) and they are stunning.
They really should! The old formula was better, even if I didn’t LOVE it, lol!
I was getting excited about this one as I am looking at getting a palette of some sort with navy and or indigo blue which I do not have yet. What do any of you ladies recommend? Have you got the new Chanel Blue Rhythm quad yet? I looks a bit on the bright side but gorgeous. I am very cool toned so I could probably pull it off but I am usually not one to wear really bright shades.
Sorry, I don’t have that!
That’s okay. I was wondering what Navy Palette you recommend. Maybe singles?
Singles are probably your best bet 🙁
