Dior Smoky Sequins (066 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette ($63.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a new, limited edition five-pan eyeshadow palette that features a medium gray, white, golden bronze, dark gray, and dark black. The formula feels like last year’s holiday eyeshadow formula, which was a little easier to use and better performing than some of Dior’s other eyeshadow palettes in recent times. It is described as being “ultra-pigmented” with ” no powdery effect.” The palette was decent with respect to pigmentation, texture, and wear; it’s the kind of palette that is on the cusp of being good, but it would work for someone who typically wears primer already. I wish the center shade wasn’t a warm-toned gold/bronze hue; I think it would have been better with something cooler, perhaps a violet, blue, or silvery taupe.

Smoky Sequins #1 is a light-medium gray with neutral undertones and a sparkly, frosted finish. The consistency was drier and dustier, which resulted in the color applying poorly to bare skin as it would sheer out and not adhere well. It had medium coverage, and it was not buildable when I wore it. The best luck I had was using it with a slightly dampened brush. It lasted for six hours on me. Sydney Grace Polished Silver (P, $6.25) is more shimmery, cooler (90% similar). LORAC Gunmetal (LE, $19.00) is darker (90% similar). MAC Sex & the Oyster (LE, $17.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). NARS Lysithea (P, $29.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). MAC Uninhibited #1 (LE, $21.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). MAC Silver Bells (LE, $21.00) is more shimmery, lighter, warmer (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Smoky Sequins #2 is a bright white with neutral undertones and a pearly sheen. The pigmentation was mostly opaque, while the texture was soft, fairly smooth, and blendable on the skin. It applied well to bare skin and lasted for seven hours. Too Faced Puppy Eyes (LE, $16.00) is more muted (95% similar). L'Oreal Petite Perle (P, $5.99) is warmer (95% similar). Dior Precious Embroidery #2 (LE, ) is cooler (95% similar). KVD Beauty Skulls (LE, ) is warmer (95% similar). Chanel L'Intemporel de Chanel #5 (LE, ) is darker, warmer (90% similar). MAC White Frost (P, $17.00) is warmer (95% similar). Urban Decay Vapor (LE, $19.00) is warmer (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty The Siren #1 (LE, ) is warmer (90% similar). Milani Bella White (07) (P, $4.49) is warmer (90% similar). MAC Chillproof (LE, $17.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Inglot #453 (P, $7.00) is brighter (90% similar). Disney by Sephora Ball Gown (LE, ) is warmer (95% similar). NARS Flowers 1 #1 (DC, $25.00) is warmer (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Smoky Sequins #3 is a medium, golden bronze with warm, brown undertones and a metallic finish. It had excellent color payoff with a smooth, denser consistency that was really easy to work with; it felt much denser compared to the other shades in the palette–creamier in a way. This shade wore well for eight hours before fading. Natasha Denona Satin Tan (58P) (PiP, $29.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty They Know Who (PiP, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). Terra Moons Rubidium (P, $6.25) is more shimmery, warmer (95% similar). NARS Dione (P, $29.00) is lighter (95% similar). Smoky Sequins #4 is a dark gray with neutral-to-cool undertones and a pearly shimmer. It had good color coverage that applied evenly and smoothly to bare skin. The texture was just a touch drier, but it came together well on the lid and did not look dry on. I was able to get seven and a half hours of wear out of this shade. MAC Lapisluxe #3 (LE, ) is less shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Natasha Denona Graphite (07M) (PiP, $29.00) is cooler (95% similar). MAC Plumluxe #5 (PiP, ) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). I will definitely be getting this. I love Dior palettes and this has the added advantage of having that beautiful embossed sequin pattern. It is too bad about shade 1 but I will try and work with it. Thank you for the quick review, Christine.

Oh dear. My super oily lids ate up Dior Capitol of Light, so this will probably be skip for me. I can easily dupe this by adding a bronze shadow to my Chanel Tisse Smoky. I tested out and returned (no joke) at least 4 smoky eye kits before finding the Chanel one. None of them could survive the oily lid monster, except for Tisse Smoky, which is an awesome quad. I should’ve probably got a backup since it was LE 🙁

Oh thank you!!! Yes, I see it at Nordstrom’s. I will need to get a backup, a smoky eye is such a classic, and the pans are so small, I’m afraid I will run out some day. And it seems to be the only smoky quad that doesn’t turn into raccoon eyes for me. Thanks again!!

It almost looks too pretty to take a brush to it! That design, though!
For some odd reason, I like this one. Don’t even know why I’m drawn to it, either. Perhaps because in order for me to get away with wearing such cool toned grays, I need something warmer to tie it together. Still, I would have rather seen a shade other than bronze, because bronze, gray, black , white? Plum would’ve been nice!

I purchased this palette and I love it. I created a beautiful smoky eye last night. I actually like the center color. I like to mix warm and cool shades. The center shade is really pretty on the inner part of the lid. I am so glad Dior has this new formula. I am seriously contemplating getting Precious Embroidery.

I’m glad this rated as highly as it did (B+ is pretty good for Dior!) but only the middle shade really interests me. It’s funny – back in my 30’s, I used to be all about grey and silver shades of shadow but the last 10 or 15 years, not so much…

Did you do an eye look with this? No worries if you didn’t, I know you’re very busy! It’s a very pretty palette, but I think I’ll give it a miss as I have a Bourjois grey/smoky palette which probably has better pigmentation, lol!
