Dior Plum Tulle (159) Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Plum Tulle (159)
Dior Plum Tulle (159) 5 Couleurs Couture Eyeshadow Palette ($65.00 for 0.24 oz.) features an updated formula in a purple/plum-leaning color story. There was one matte shade, while the remaining four shades had some level of shimmer (ranging from satin to pearl). All five shades had good pigmentation, while the second shade was on the powdery side, the others were very easy to work with. It’s definitely an upgrade in formula, overall, compared to the brand’s traditional powder formula from a few years ago.

Plum Tulle #1
Plum Tulle #1 is a bright silver with cooler undertones and a metallic finish that seemed to have a subtle, pinkish pearl throughout. It had opaque color coverage with a moderately dense consistency that wasn’t too firmly nor too softly pressed into the pan, which made for easy application. The eyeshadow went on evenly, diffused well along the edges, and didn’t emphasize my skin’s natural texture. It wore well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Formula Overview
-
The formula is supposed to have a "creamy and comfortable texture" that is long-wearing and has "intense color" (or "high-pigment"). There are five finishes that can be found within various palettes: matte, satin, shimmer, metallic, highlighter, and glitter, though there aren't specific descriptions by finish, unfortunately.
There were a few shades that seemed more sparkly and were sheerer, more like layering shades, while the other finishes tended to be pigmented. In general, the texture was moderately dense with the matte shades being slightly thinner and a smidgen powdery in the pan compared to the satin, shimmer, and metallic shades.
Aside from those more sparkly shades, the formula was blendable, pigmented, easy to work with, and lasted an average of eight hours on me (without a primer).

Plum Tulle #2
Plum Tulle #2 is a soft, milky white base with iridescent pearl that shifted between pink and peach but less as a continuous shift. The base was more matte and somewhat powdery, while the shimmer was quite fine and seemed overwhelmed by the base. It had good color coverage that could be built up to full coverage with a second layer. It lasted decently for seven and a half hours on me.

Plum Tulle #3 is a medium-dark purple with subtle, warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had excellent color payoff in a single layer, which adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out nicely along the edges. The consistency was soft, slightly dense but not overly firm or thick. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Plum Tulle #5
Plum Tulle #5 is a deep purple with subtle, warm undertones and barely-there micro-shimmer strewn through a more matte finish. The pigmentation was opaque in a single layer, while the consistency was soft, lightly powdery in the pan but not prone to fallout. The eyeshadow applied evenly and blended out surprisingly well and didn’t lose its coverage. There were signs of fading present after eight and a half hours of wear.

Such a gorgeous palette! :o) I don’t need it but it is drawing me in.
It is gorgeous, isn’t it? These plum/purple-y shades are so stunning!
For someone like me who shies away from metallics and frosts, I’m loving this look. The white and silver on the eyelid don’t look nearly as stark as I expected judging from the swatches.
I think they really hit the mark with this palette it’s rich with the dark plums and just right with the satiny sheen of the lighter colors.
This palette is really lovely. The silver is so interesting with the pinkish tinge.
Now this is a palette I love. Don’t need it buut really love it.
oh darn, I want this.
I’m in a tough spot. I have 2 shades duped very well via my Viseart Amethyst Theory palette, but don’t have close enough dupes for any of the others. And I totally love, love, love this little palette!
Hmmmm, sounds like someone will be on this one. LOL!
I really might be, Jane! ?
Purple is my favorite color so I automatically like it for the color story alone, lol. I’ll add it to my wish list but since I have about 4 other purple palettes, I won’t be in a rush of buy this (but Christmas is only a few months away…).
It’s fabulous to see that Dior has improved their formulas so that they are, at least, in line with their prices and reputation.
This is a gorgeous purpley- themed quint, but I do think that shades 1 & 2 are fairly similar to each other, although they have different finishes.
I really liked Shade 4 – that is stunning. A beautiful eye look too Christine.
That’s the weird thing with Dior – their quality is SO unreliable and all over the map! We both know how fabulous that Bonne Etiole palette was but then things went back into the dumper until last fall (or was it the fall before) when they reformulated and came out with the Feel 5-pan, which I have, and several others of the same formula which were also really good. But Dior is so pricey that I ALWAYS wait to see what Christine has to say about their new shadow releases (and this latest bunch seems so good that it could well lead to the poor house for me!)
OMG…I am IN LOVE! This is absolutely stunning! This is going on my Christmas wish list.
I don’t wear purple eyeshadows much any more (they used to be my “go to’s” 30 years ago!) but, nevertheless, I’ve got dupes for 4 of the 5 shadows in this 5-pan. And if I were heavily into purple, I’d be fainting over this because it is lovely and the quality is good too.
If this ever goes on a major sale, I will likely purchase it! I’m not a quad person and definitely not a quad person when it’s expensive, but I must admit that this one just draws attention. ;). (Funny it reminds me of the colros of my very first “palettes” which then were only quads, by Maybelline.
This is a little stunner, it reminds me of a time long gone when I loved the Dior quints and got quite a little collection. These days I must admit they rarely make eye shadows I look at twice, though I do read about them all here.
I really want this one, I looked through all the dupes and have two, but not very close ones. So, maybe this one will find its way into my collection, it is on the costly side, so maybe come Christmas.
Thanks for continuing reviewing Dior, Christine, I had almost given up, but then some time ago, they did manage to turnout decent quads, and now they have a winner.
Christine, is it possible to view the swatches of all the shades next to one another, starting from this screen? I might miss something as I don’t see this option. Thank you 🙂
You can click “Plum Tulle” palette glossover and then ‘swatches’ button under the title on that page, but not from this screen directly.
Thank you, Christine!
