Dior Parisian Sky (506) Eyeshadow Palette
Dior Parisian Sky (506) Eyeshadow Palette ($63.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a new, limited edition five-pan palette for fall that features a medium brown, warm beige, pale silver, light blue, and brown-burgundy. It’s a so-so palette; workable if you really want to exert the effort, but it’s unlikely to merit paying the price. I think if you use a primer, it is marginally improved but some of the dustiness seemed to eat right through a solid base.
Parisian Sky #1 is a medium brown with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had decent pigmentation with a soft, smooth texture that was just a smidgen dry. The color wore well for seven and a half hours before fading on me. Anastasia Belize (P, $12.00) is more shimmery, warmer (90% similar). MAC Eternal Optimist (LE, ) is cooler (90% similar). MAC Sweet Satisfaction (DC, $21.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Chanel Empreinte du Desert #1 (LE, ) is lighter, brighter, warmer (90% similar). theBalm Epic (LE, $16.00) is darker (90% similar). Chanel Undertone (802) (P, $36.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). NARS Lahore (P, $19.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Dior Ambre Nuit #5 (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). NARS Ashes to Ashes (P, $19.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). LORAC Cliffside (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery, lighter (85% similar). NARS Kashmir (P, $19.00) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). Natasha Denona Satin Skin (75P) (PiP, $29.00) is more shimmery, darker (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Parisian Sky #2 is a light, golden beige with warm undertones and a soft, frosted finish. The texture was lightly dusty, so it was prone to sheering out on the skin. If you want to use it as a lid color, I would recommend using a primer underneath. This shade lasted for seven hours on me. YSL Avant Garde #2 (PiP, ) is lighter (95% similar). Makeup Geek Shimma Shimma (DC, $6.00) is more shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Viseart Kifu (PiP, ) is lighter (95% similar). Urban Decay Ounce (PiP, $19.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Parisian Sky #3 is a light, bluish silver with cool undertones a nd a frosted sheen. It had semi-opaque color payoff with a soft, moderately firm press–it wasn’t hard to use, but it wasn’t as dusty or as dry as the other shades in the palette. I noticed fading after six and a half hours of wear. Guerlain Les Aquas #4 (P, ) is cooler (95% similar). Make Up For Ever D118 Platinum (DC, $21.00) is cooler (95% similar). Le Metier de Beaute Platinum (P, $30.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Starry Night #1 (PiP, ) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Maybelline Cool Crush (LE, $6.99) is darker (90% similar). Inglot #447 (P, $7.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). MAC Treasure Me (LE, $20.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Parisian Sky #4 is a light-medium, sky blue with cool undertones and a pearly sheen. The texture was soft, lightly dusty, and prone to sheering out, though it was blendable around the edges. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, which didn’t build up for me at all, even over a primer. This shade started to have visible fading after six hours of wear. Wet 'n' Wild Water (LE, $6.99) is more shimmery (90% similar). MAC Dark Energy #2 (LE, $21.00) is cooler (90% similar). Make Up For Ever ME202 Iceberg Blue (DC, $17.00) is cooler (90% similar). Chanel Promesse #1 (LE, ) is cooler (90% similar). MAC Sky Blue (DC, $17.00)(90% similar). Dior Swimming Pool #4 (LE, ) is darker (85% similar). bareMinerals Sensational (LE, ) is darker, warmer (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Parisian Sky #5 is a deep reddish brown with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had good pigmentation–the best in the palette–that applied fairly evenly and blended out without too much work, though it could have been easier to diffuse around the edges. The texture wasn’t too soft or too firm, and it sat well on the skin. It wore the longest out of the five shades in the palette at eight hours. MAC Constructivist (DC, $18.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Too Faced Fingers Crossed (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Not my colors but the palette itself looks beautiful.
The color combo would definitely work!
Oh bummer, but not a big surprise. I saw various swatches online, and they didn’t look that impressive, guess it’s ok if you kind of like the subtle “no makeup” look, but I’m not that kind of gal. I think this would’ve been totally amazing if they got the pigmentation right and paired the browns with a sky blue and mint green, for warm/icy cool look. I think I will get Capital of Light; it’s been so long. This morning, I pulled out one of my old Dior quints that had been sadly DC’d (Bleu de Paris) and knocked out a stunning smoky navy eye in 5 minutes using DS brushes. It’s not a perfect quint, but it’s really good for a blue, and it sure beats the hell out of anything Dior has issued in last couple of years. I sure hope they keep improving the formula.
Here’s hoping! I mean 1 of 2 is better than usual…
LOL, yes baby steps, baby steps, with the occasional stumble, but let’s hope Dior keeps moving in the right direction….I think they have to because Chanel is starting to issue some decent quads ( L’Automnes, Empreinte Du Desert, Candeur Et Experience), Tom Ford has winners (Nude Dip, Honeymoon) and Guerlain has finally re-formulated their shadows, hopefully for the better
I vastly prefer the colour story in the other quint
I think that one is easier to work with altogether!
That’s strange, I have this palette and I didn’t find the shades dusty at all. I’ve experience the Dior “dustiness” before so I know what you’re talking about, but all the shades in my palette are buttery soft, and the least soft is actually the dark brown!
Very interesting! I had better results with the other quint from fall, but this was more in the line with past editions! 🙁
I’m wearing this today, and I think I’m going to return it. The colors are so light and barely noticeable that it really isn’t worth keeping. So disappointed because it looked so pretty!
Aww! 🙁 I am sorry to hear that it isn’t working out for you, Virginia!
Disappointing for the price. Definitely was expecting better.
Agreed!
The shades look spectacular. What a shame the perform poorly. As always, Christine, your eye makeup looks beautiful.
Thank you, Tracey!
One of the biggest let downs, aside from general quality, is how similar 1 and 2, 3 and 4 swatch. They look better differentiated in the pan. 2 and 4 have dupes from Naked 2. Probably won’t be a major want for those of us with TMS (too much stash.)
If I’m going to have a palette of five, more contrast is more useful for me – you can get more variety of looks out of that than when they run together (I find that actually makes it easier to muddy a look!).
TMS lol…love that!
Too bad those aren’t as nice as the others!
So true!
These could have been nice, ornate palettes for fall, but I’m underwhelmed.
Totally understand!
Whomp-whomp-whomp. ?
Sad. As per their usual, a subpar quint at ultra inflated price just for the Dior logo. PASS.
Burn!
Just when I thought Dior were improving their quints.
Can’t win them all, lol!
I am totally immune to any Dior eyeshadow quint. I don’t even notice the colors. All that eyeshadow format does when I see it is bring to mind years of disappointing formulas. And here it is again. Thanks, Dior for destroying an iconic product.
Was pinching myself not to see d grade of d mint green… Most makeup companies never get such kinda shades right
I want to have an icy blue dress like the colour in this palette! It may not have the greatest colour payoff but as a dress it would be fabulous!
Funnily enough, this one is a lot more dupeable. I have dupes for 3 of the shades. I really like the colours but not when they are hard to work with!
The brown is nice. The other colours in this quint would hardly show up on my lids, It would just be a light myddy nothingness. Pity as I hoped Dior had improved their ES formula after reading the reviews for the other fall LE quint.
You did a good job with the eyelook, as always.
This palette is sadly not as good as the first one you reviewed. The colours choices for this one are hardly unique and not very well done.
