ColourPop Lyin' King Ultra Satin Liquid Lipstick
ColourPop Lyin’ King Ultra Satin Liquid Lipstick

ColourPop Lyin’ King Ultra Satin Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is described as a “saturated raspberry.” It’s a muted, medium-dark raspberry pink with subtle, cool undertones and a satin finish. The color was richly pigmented with a smooth, lightweight consistency that applied well and didn’t gather into lip lines. The texture is satiny as it dries down, and then there’s a light tackiness if I pressed my lips together, but the color didn’t separate where my lips touched. There was still much of the color left intact after eight hours of wear, while the formula was neither drying nor hydrating but comfortable to wear. Estee Lauder Unattainable (P, $32.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Chanel Luxuriant (150) (P, $45.00) is lighter, warmer (95% similar). MAC D for Danger (P, $19.00) is warmer (90% similar). ColourPop Scrooge (LE, $6.50) is more muted, cooler, less glossy (90% similar). ColourPop First of All (PiP, $7.00) is cooler (90% similar). Bobbi Brown Grenadine (P, $29.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Giorgio Armani Art Deco (502) (PiP, $38.00) is darker (90% similar). Bite Beauty #096 (P, $18.00) is cooler (90% similar). NYX Merlot (P, $6.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Bite Beauty Beetroot (DC, $26.00) is darker (85% similar). NARS Vera (P, $34.00) is warmer, glossier (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Boy Gorgeous (222) (P, $30.00) is lighter, brighter, cooler (90% similar). Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Shoegazer (DC, $17.00) is darker, brighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC Claretcast (DC, $21.00) is cooler, glossier (85% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Love Crime (P, $57.00) is darker, cooler, glossier (85% similar). NARS Full Time Females (P, $26.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (85% similar). Stellar Beauty Wicked Aura 01 (P, $22.00) is cooler (85% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Dangerous Beauty (P, $57.00) is lighter, cooler, glossier (85% similar). MAC Heaux (LE, $19.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Givenchy Violine Precieux (312) (LE, $36.00) is lighter (85% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

ColourPop London Fog Ultra Satin Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is described as a “cool-toned blue red.” It’s a muted, medium-dark ruby red with cool undertones and a satin finish. It was richly pigmented with a creamy, thin consistency that applied well with even, smooth coverage. There were very light streak marks at the edges that self-leveled after about ten to fifteen minutes. It was comfortable to wear with a light tackiness, but the color didn’t lift if I pressed my lips together. The color was still going strong after eight hours of wear, and it was neither drying nor hydrating. Tarte Swamp Family (LE, $20.00) is lighter (95% similar). Bite Beauty Sour Cherry (DC, $26.00) is darker (95% similar). MAC Carmine Rouge (LE, $19.00) is darker (95% similar). ColourPop JujuRouge (LE, $7.00) is glossier (95% similar). Bite Beauty #012 (LE, $36.00) is cooler (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Alejandro (P, $36.00) is more shimmery, glossier (95% similar). NYX Chic Red (P, $4.00) is darker, more muted (90% similar). MAC So Good For You (LE, $19.00) is more muted (95% similar). Besame American Beauty 1945 (P, $22.00) is cooler, glossier (95% similar). Estee Lauder Boldface (P, $32.00) is warmer, glossier (90% similar). Clinique Cherry Pop (P, $19.50) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). Makeup Geek Trophy Wife (P, $12.00) is cooler, glossier (90% similar). MAC MAC Red (P, $19.00) is brighter, cooler (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Alain (P, $36.00) is glossier (90% similar). Smashbox Red Rage (P, $21.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). MAC Charlotte (LE, $19.00) is lighter (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Oh Miley (200) (P, $30.00) is warmer (90% similar). Hourglass My Icon Is (P, $34.00) is darker, more muted (90% similar). Maybelline Rich Ruby (P, $7.99) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC Damn Glamorous (LE, $19.00) is lighter, brighter, less glossy (90% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

FORMULA OVERVIEW | ColourPop Ultra Satin Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is supposed to be a “lightweight, bold lipstick with a satin finish” that is “extra intense colour saturation” and “long-wearing,” but the brand is quick to note that it is “not completely kiss proof.” The consistency is very light to lightweight with a thin to mousse-like consistency–they feel a little heavier going on than the Ultra Matte formula, but they don’t feel heavy on. They dry down somewhat, but it isn’t a full, flat dry down like matte liquid lipsticks, and when you press your lips together, there is moderate tackiness there, but I didn’t notice any lifting or separating of color by doing so. Thus far, they have been extremely long-wearing and comfortable to wear for the most part–it’s after ten hours or so that I notice my lips feeling a little dry–but six hours into wear and the colors have looked good post-meals/post-drinking. I think if you like the idea of longer-wearing, mostly matte lip color but find most liquid lipsticks too drying or too flat while not needing an ultra-hydrating formula, you might like these.

This satin formula sounds like it’s a lot easier to wear than the ultra mattes, and I like the finish better. BTW, love the purple earrings and purple shadow, wish they had a true purple in this formula

I am loving these! I wish they would get Dopey back though. I hope it doesn’t turn out to be like my long lost Boba! 🙁
ColourPop must have listened to their customers. because the mattes came out and they have a HUGE following. But, their is still those of us who can’t tolerate them . But,we want a long wearing option which doesn’t suck the life out of your lips. Tom Fords clicky patent things are good. But, ouch the price tag and they are very glossy. Plus, no neutrals are available. These amazing! I’m wearing Frick N frack today. I didn’t even need lip liner and it looks good. I can’t imagine how perfect it will look with liner. I’m hooked! Love!

These two are some beauties. I don’t post regularly but Christine…I blame you for my addiction lol. I’m just ready to get home to my steals on Becca from Hautelook. Becca foundation for $10!!! Yes maam…sign me up.

Love both colors but if I had to choose one, it would be Lyin’ King. I like the durability and fact that it’s not drying.
Could a clear gloss go over these colors to diminish the tackiness or do you think it would destroy the longevity?

Oh boy, those shades are both gorgeous on you! And the finish looks really natural and healthy. Just when I was starting to loose just a wee bit of my love for the company, I also like thinking that CP really *listened* to the countless fans of the brand who had to run in the opposite direction from the Ultra-Mattes. I’ll probably wait to see what else comes out in their spring/summer releases before pulling the trigger on one of these, but I admit I’m tempted.

So I bought three of the satin one’s from colourpop Magic wand, Echo Park, and London fog, I always had issue’s with the ultra matte liquid lipstick’s no matter if it was from colourpop , abh, kvd, stilla or mac, they are sooo drying on my poor little lip’s. My fear with this new one’s from colourpop was they would be more like a high pigment lip gloss then a liquid lipstick. Not the case these I love they stay on for a good time and they are not drying also what i did was use it over the ulta matte ones just to see if it could make the ultra matte a bit more wearable and it was fine to layer. Now i want to go back and order all this type lol I really want Dopey

Sounds like these may feel a bit like the Revlon matte liquids, which don’t fully dry down either. I’m not sure how I feel about the Revlon–I need to wear mine again, probably, to have a proper opinion. It was comfortable enough, but definitely transferred more than a traditional style lipstick matte…which I found about as comfortable. So I didn’t quite see the advantage.

Do we know for sure that these are permanent? I know it says above that they are, but when they first launched I got two different emails urging me to “get them before they’re gone” which seems to imply they’re limited edition, so I’m a little confused.

Cassie Avatar

Thanks for letting me know! I’m really liking the one I have, so I was hoping they were permanent. There was only one shade I was interested in from the initial release, but I figure if they’re permanent they’ll come out with more shades eventually.

I guess the “get them before they’re gone” emails were just referring to the first batch before they restocked.

Thanks again!

I found the Ultra Matte formula a bit drying so this sounds fantastic! I love the eye look you’ve done with the Peanut Butter and Jelly palette. I wish Too Faced was available in India!
