It's a Princess Thing

Colour Pop It’s a Princess Thing 15-Pan Shadow Palette ($20.00 for 0.53 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette that includes a mix of warmer neutrals from pale gold to blackened plum. The scheme seemed to fit the theme of the collection, so for those who are in need of a go-to neutral palette, this one could come in handy. There were no major misses in the palette with most shades performing well. The exterior of the palette has the sketches of the princesses, while the interior of the lid has their signatures (no mirror), so the collection’s artwork is featured on the actual packaging, not just the cardboard box, which is nice to see.

Chip

Chip is a light-medium beige with soft, warm undertones and a matte finish. It was a thicker, creamier matte, which helped it adhere more evenly to bare skin as well as kept its opacity when applied to my skin. I did have to be careful applying it to areas like my brow bone by pressing it on and then sweeping/blending it out. It lasted for just over eight hours on me before I noticed signs of fading.

Formula Overview

$4.50/0.05 oz. - $90.00 Per Ounce

The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing” and “adheres easily to the eyes.” Most of the shades have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation that applies well to bare skin, blends out without issue, and lasts for seven to eight hours. The matte eyeshadows tend to be a little more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, in the pan, while the shimmers have a creamier, dense consistency. Occasionally, the more sparkly or metallic shades apply better with fingertips or a dampened brush.

Prince Charming

Prince Charming is a pale, white gold with warmer undertones and a metallic sheen that shifted from pale gold to green. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a more loosely-pressed texture that applied more smoothly and intensely with a dampened brush. When I used it dry, it was more prone to fallout if I wasn’t careful to press it against my skin. The eyeshadow stayed on nicely for eight hours on me.

Ray

Ray is a light-medium gold with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It was richly pigmented and had a smooth, lightly creamy texture that was soft without being powdery. The texture was one of the most luxurious ones I’ve encountered in eyeshadow; if every shimmer shade was like this, the palette would be hard to resist. It lasted for just over eight and a hal fhours on me before it started to fade.

Fairy Godmother

Fairy Godmother is a light-medium, peachy coral with a peach-to-pink shifting sparkle over a frosted finish. The eyeshadow had opaque color payoff in a single layer that applied fairly well to bare skin, though there was a bit of fallout if I didn’t use primer or apply it with a dampened brush. The texture was more loosely pressed, so it was blendable, and it applied best by pressing and gently pushing against my skin. It wore well for eight hours on me before fading noticeably.

One Kiss is a deep gold with strong, warm orange undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had good pigmentation in a one layer, but the consistency had more slip and felt emollient to the touch, which seemed to give it a more translucent base than anticipated. I was able to press and pat it on for fairly good coverage or else use it with a dampened brush, which ensured rich coverage. It stayed on nicely for eight hours on me.

Poison Apple

Poison Apple is a bright, medium berry with pinker undertones and a metallic sheen. It was intensely pigmented with a smooth, lightly creamy texture that was easy to work with as it applied evenly and blended out with little effort. This shade stayed on well for eight and a half hours on me.

Magic Carpet

Magic Carpet is a blackened plum with warmer undertones and a satin sheen. It had good pigmentation, though it appeared more faded applied than it did in the pan. The consistency was soft to the touch but felt more loosely pressed in the pan, which resulted in some dustiness in the pan and a bit of fallout during application. It lasted for just over eight hours on me before fading noticeably on me.

Beast

Beast is a medium-dark brown with subtle, warm red undertones and had a mostly matte finish, though there were a smattering of gold sparkles in the pan. The majority sparkles disappeared, whether trapped in my brush or blended away, so there was slight fallout during application but not much in the way of residual fallout during wear. The pigmentation was great, while the eyeshadow diffused easily along the edges and had good adherence to bare skin. It wore well for eight and a half hours on me.

Midnight Curfew

Midnight Curfew is a medium black with neutral-to-cool undertones and flecks of silver sparkle over a matte finish. It had opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which adhered well to bare skin, though the texture was slightly firmer in the pan and took a bit more effort to diffuse the edges when I used this at full pigmentation. On the other hand, for building up coverage or darkening areas, it seemed easier to avoid over-applying product. It stayed on well for eight hours before it started to fade on me.

This is really pretty. And great quality.

But I can dupe 90% of it with Colourpop shades I already have. And I don’t really care about Disney princesses – so I think I will be sensible and pass. Or that might change tomorrow morning, I don’t know 😉

Damn, ColourPop really did their job with this collection! And thanks so much for getting everything reviewed before the collection goes live! Now I feel extra good about buying the whole thing 🙂

Even though my usual tendency is to go with either very smokey, dramatic eyes or a well sculpted, sophisticated pin-up style eye, this cute, very feminine palette is calling me. Not to say that one couldn’t do a smoldering smokey eye with this, because one absolutely can. Just nice to see it retain some of what makes the Disney Princesses appealing to ones whimsical side, too!

Hey Christine, thanks for the review–I think I might end up getting this one! Did they increase the price on this ahead of the launch?? For some reason I thought it was listed at $20 only a few days ago 🙁

It’s $20! There must have been a past 15-pan palette that was $26 (the system auto-fills info like price and ounce for existing products).

This is so pretty. Except I already own 99% of all the colors. Love Colourpop either the super shock or powder such pretty colors and great quality. It would make a perfect gift for young young girl who lives Disney and starting to wear makeup. Hey! Even fir this old mama but I’m holding back as I don’t need more clutter and extra makeup space with two shelves already full of goodies.

I don’t know who first came up with them, but they’ve been completely standardized at Disney parks for ages! (A Fairy Godmother signature today would be the same as twenty years ago.) 🙂

Burt in all seriousness, if I were a makeup noobie, I’d be thrilled to get this — reasonably priced, classic, not super challenging, with an impressive array of shades. Winner!

I’m stunned! My jaw dropped when I saw the rating. If they could do a green, blue, silver winter frost themed one (“Frozen”, another Disney theme LOL), then I’d be on it. But this one, I have 10 dupes (good ones too) for it, so too bad.

Just ordered the pallet and the lipstick pack, 2 highlights, not a big fun of gloss and the super shock eyeshadow. Love the packaging and glad the pallet and the lipsticks all performed well!

It’s a lovely palette, and I get along well with Colourpop shadows, but this palette reminds me so much of the Coloured Raine Queen of Hearts palette, which I already own, so I’ll be passing on this one. However, if I didn’t already own QOH, I’d probably get this.

Ugh. I’ve only recently collected the majority of these colors and would have much rather just bought this than spending hours carefully going through hundreds of online swatches and jumping from brand to brand. I’m tempted to pick it up anyway.

OMG I’m buying this. I honestly wouldn’t buy a Disney palette (and I love the princesses!) were it not being made by Colourpop! That is fantastic. I can’t wait to get it! Awesome review, I actually resisted buying it right away before I saw your review LOL. The vault is already sold out! Boo. I was actually considering that too.

The more I look at this, the more I want to rearrange the shades (which doesn’t happen to me often, but this … this is begging for a different layout).
