ColourPop Forever Freshman Super Shock Shadow Set Review, Photos, Swatches

ColourPop Forever Freshman Collection
ColourPop Forever Freshman Collection

ColourPop Forever Freshman Collection ($30.00 for 0. oz.) is a set of six cream eyeshadows in shades of the 90s, and they continue to deliver what we’ve come to expect from ColourPop’s cream formula: good pigmentation and long-wear. The set works well together, and you can easily use two or three at a time to get even more versatility out of the combination. On one hand, they’re all loose pots so it’s not as convenient as a palette, but on the other hand, they’re readily incorporated with whatever other eyeshadows you own.

90210 is described as a “greyed out taupe softly sprinkled with pink and gold glitter in a satin luxe finish.” It’s a soft, medium-dark taupe brown with strong, warm brown undertones and gold and copper sparkle over a matte finish. The cream formula makes it so the sparkles actually bind/adhere with the base color, so you can actually get the sparkles to appear on the eye. I do get some fall out if I do a lot of blending, but the sparkles that are still left on seem to stay on pretty well throughout the ten-hour wear time. Rouge Bunny Rouge Umber Fire Finch (P, $19.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Urban Decay Low (LE, $19.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). ColourPop Adios (LE, $6.00) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Too Faced Jackpot (LE, $16.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Viseart Cool Matte #5 (PiP, ) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Smashbox Moss (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Viseart Cool Matte #4 (PiP, ) is less shimmery, lighter (85% similar). Urban Decay Jagged (LE, $19.00) is darker (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

As If is described as a “mid-tone cool taupe in a matte finish.” It’s a muted, medium brown with warmer undertones and a matte finish. It had mostly opaque pigmentation with a fairly soft and smooth texture, but it wasn’t quite as creamy (more velvety) in texture. It lasted for ten hours without creasing or fading. Laura Mercier Café au Lait (PiP, $23.00) is lighter (95% similar). Becca Cognac (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). Inglot #337 (P, $6.00) is darker (95% similar). Baby T is described as a “deep blackened blue in matte finish.” It’s a rich, navy blue with fine lighter blue pearl. It was nicely pigmented with a creamy consistency that applied evenly and smoothly, but it did have a tendency to sheer out slightly due to the amount of slip. Once on, the color didn’t show signs of fading even after ten hours of wear. Pretty Vulgar Wing It (PiP, ) is lighter (95% similar). ColourPop School Bus (LE, $6.00) is lighter, warmer (95% similar). Crimper is described as a “soft gold with multi-dimensional gold glitter in a metallic finish.” It’s a light-medium, yellow gold with warm undertones and gold sparkle. It had good pigmentation with a soft, blendable texture that was easy to work with and apply (even with a brush). It wore well for ten hours with minor fall out. Kevyn Aucoin Beam (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). MAC Seasonal Spirit (LE, $17.00) is lighter (95% similar). Tarte Baby It's Gold Outside (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). Koosh is described as an “icy silver taupe with an ultra-metallic finish.” It’s a light-medium, bronzy beige with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had fairly good pigmentation with a really creamy, smooth texture that felt wet but dried down without being stiff or clingy. It wore well for ten hours on me. Wow, Colour Pop continues to impress! I only want this set for Baby T – I have dupes for some of the other colors and the rest aren’t flattering on me. So hard to find good navy blues and the name is so “90s! Guess I will settle for Etiquette

Bonnie Avatar

Same! I really just want Baby T, I have dupes for all the others except Melrose… Hell I’ll probably buy the set anyway. I’d rather go for Baby T because it performs better than Etiquette. Does anyone else think it’s weird that all CP’s LE stuff now routinely out-performs their permanent collection?

Kat Avatar

If I make another CP order before this sells out, it’s definitely on the list! Melrose is so my speed, and I’ve been wanting a good navy blue like Baby T, and 90210 is just so unique! And I’m always game for a few good highlight shades, and As If looks like a great transition shade. This is one of the few palettes/sets where I can really see myself using every single shade a lot.

Steph K Avatar

Wow fantastic rating! I was hoping you would review this! 😀 This is fantastic news especially since I just ordered this! 😀 Thanks for the review Christine!!! 😀

Nancy T Avatar

So…I didn’t think I needed this, or would even want it, but after reading your review and seeing accurate swatches, I do now! Thank you for reviewing this set, because other swatches I’ve been seeing haven’t sold me on this, but yours did.

Ray Avatar

Christine, with your ColourPop reviews, I’ve noticed that a lot of the time when they label something as cool-toned, your write-up identifies it as warm. Is CP wrong a lot or do these colors just read warmer on your skin?

Genevieve Avatar

Love, love and love that beautiful navy blue colour Baby T – it is divine and could have been in your top 5 favourites of navy. It is gorgeous. The other colours are lovely too. But blue is generally one colour that most brands just don’t get right. For $5 – this is amazing (I hope Dior is looking at this!).

TF Avatar

Hey Christine, I really appreciate your thorough and thoughtful reviews, they’re a delight to read. Having never used a cream-to-powder formula before, I was wondering if Colourpop shadows can be used well with powder shadows, and how you would go about combining the different formulas. Thanks for all your hard work, this site is quickly becoming one of my favorites!

Lisa Avatar

Between Colour Pop and Makeup Geek and one UD palatte, I think all my eye shadow needs are met.

What brush do you find picks up the color best? I have tried a couple different ones, but it’s still far better with my finger. That doesn’t give me the control I want though….if I could only find a good brush!

Holli Avatar

How do you apply these?? I bought some and i totally forgot that they were cream when they arrived. Gosh their colors are wonderful!!! I love them and really want this collection but i’m not going to purchase it unless I know for sure I can apply it well
