ColourPop Between the Sheets Super Shock Cheek Review & Swatches
Between the Sheets
ColourPop Between the Sheets Super Shock Cheek ($8.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark coral with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had a drier, more clay-like texture that was less emollient, which I found made it harder to pick up with a brush as well as with a fingertip–the latter being the only manageable way to apply it decently. The color went on with semi-sheer color payoff when I applied with my fingertips, which I was able to build to about medium coverage. I wouldn’t apply a second layer over base products, as the drier feel of the blush seemed to make it more prone to lifting up base products. Once in place, it stayed on well for 10 hours without fading.

The formula is supposed to have "buildable" coverage and can be applied with fingertips (which will yield "higher coverage") or a brush (for sheerer coverage). It's a cream-based product that has a subtle, "wet" feel to it but never has the thickness of a true cream-based blush. It goes on with the smoothness of a cream formulation but diffuses and blends (without lifting up one's base) more like a powder product. The product sets to a powder finish, so the product won't slide around during the day. On me, the wear tends to be between eight and 10 hours. Most shades have medium, buildable pigmentation with some being semi-opaque to opaque on occasion. They are typically blendable, easy to use, and long-wearing.

This is what drives me nuts with ColourPop: they seriously DO have batch differences and issues stemming from that! This one is a glaring one. I say this because of the fact that I have read of so many swooning over this shade, plus the Birthday Suit one. Have seen it worn by them, too. My thoughts? Having received a rather dryed out blush from them years ago, but it did well here and elsewhere, I do think they sometimes have inconsistent batches of a specific shade or product. Just not sure why. Yeah, also, my Sailer SSS looks very different from yours and the ones at Ulta, too.
It is a shame they have problems with consistency. My CP SSS blushes are older but they still apply nicely. Fortunately one of them is close enough to this one so I don’t need to get it. It is my favorite formula.
It’s a beautiful shade and I agree with Nancy above – Colour Pop does have serious batch issues and it is apparent in this blush.
This was the first (and only) blush I purchased from Colourpop. I had the same issues you did, Christine. It’s a pretty color but too frustrating to use. Now I’m hesitant to try any others.
I always thought it was just user error on my part because I have the same issues with this same shade! It was the first (and only) cream-type blush I’ve ever purchased so I’m glad to know that this isn’t how it’s supposed to be!
I must have a different batch than everyone else because mine is great! Soft and moussey, wears all day, applies well with a MAC dual fiber, RT face brush or just my fingers. I have no problem with it yet! It’s also my first Colourpop SS blush so I have nothing else to compare it to. Maybe if I tried a few others I’d see the differences.
