Chanel No. 01, No. 02, No. 03 Rouge Allure Luminous & Velvet Lip Colours Reviews, Photos, Swatches
No. 01
Chanel No. 01 Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour ($37.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium pink-red with cool undertones and a satin sheen. It had good color payoff in a single layer, though you can see my lip freckle peeking through indicating it was not full coverage (as described). The texture was smooth with slight slip but not enough to feel slippery or enable the color to move around on the lips. It wore well for five and a half hours and was lightly hydrating over time.

Formula Overview
$45.00/0.12 oz. - $375.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have a "satin finish" with "ultra-thin pigments" that yield "full coverage" while also having a moisturizing base. Most shades in the range have a satin to luminous finish--not glossy but they have a luminosity to them that gives the appearance of lighter-weight color and smoother, fuller lips that a true satin finish doesn't have (in my experience).
The texture has a more velvety feel--smooth with great glide but not a lot of wetness, so they go on comfortably but feel very lightweight and thin but don't emphasize lip lines/lip texture. The coverage tends to be more semi-opaque to opaque, so they aren't always living up to the "full coverage" claim.
Most shades wear four hours or longer with some of the deeper and richer hues lasting six hours or more, and the formula has been hydrating for me. They have a subtle, floral scent but no discernible taste.

No. 02
Chanel No. 02 Rouge Allure Velvet ($37.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium red with neutral undertones and a satin finish. It had good pigmentation that applied evenly and smoothly across the lips, but it did require a second layer for full coverage. The lipstick was lightly creamy without being thick or overly emollient, so it applied without tugging but sat nicely on the lips and didn’t feather over time. This shade stayed on well for six hours and was neither drying nor hydrating.

Formula Overview
$45.00/0.12 oz. - $375.00 Per Ounce
The Rouge Allure Velvet formula is supposed to be a "non-drying matte lipstick" with "intensely rich, long-wearing colour" and has a "velvet matte finish." Over time, I felt like the formula has improved and is actually non-drying (the original launch did not wear well on me) to lightly drying (seen more in shades that have lasted six to eight hours). The pigmentation varies from shade to shade but is usually semi-opaque to opaque with a semi-matte to satin finish. The texture had a velvety, glide-on feel that doesn't feel particularly creamy or wet, yet the lipstick is comfortable to wear over the four to six hours it typically lasts for. Like most Chanel lip products, they have a rosy scent but no discernible taste.

No. 03
Chanel No. 03 Rouge Allure Velvet ($37.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium-dark, slightly muted red with cool, pink undertones and a soft sheen. It had semi-opaque coverage–plenty of pigmentation that it covered the lips with even coverage but my lip freckle was still visible. The consistency was smooth, velvety, and comfortable to apply and to wear as the lipstick glided on but didn’t move around over time. The lipstick wore well for six hours and was neither drying nor hydrating.

Off topic: OFRA has increased prices on their site. LL was $17, now $20. The three tube sets increased from 35 to 50. ULTA had not increased the Ofra prices as of Wed night. So….if you still have the Ulta 20%, and any Ofra WL, now is the time. Assume Ulta will have to raise prices as well. Idk if all products rare increased: was only looking at LL.
These look gorgeous and so perfect for this time of year. I want all three!
Really appreciate your review, Christine, particularly the descriptions as it is hard to discern the shade and undertone differences just by looking at swatches. There is a fourth lipstick in the collection, which I’ll see at a counter. I can’t wait to get my hands on these festive red bullets. Chanel is among my HG for lipsticks.
Yes, very sorry about missing the No. 04! Chanel did not send the No. 04 lipstick with the three they did send, so while I did buy it, I did not have it ready in time for this review!
I haven’t had a chance to test it since it just arrived, but I do have a swatch: https://www.temptalia.com/product/chanel-rouge-allure-luminous-intense-lip-colour/no-04/
Thanks so much for the swatch and brief description. No 4 will suit me perfectly; it’s the type of shade that most counters reach for when first recommending a shade. It looks wonderful on you, Christine. It’s beautifully brightening. Of the early swatches I saw, they we’re nearly all No 1 – 3. Above and beyond, and so very much appreciated.
That was my thought–they look identical in the swatches and on the lips.
None of these colors are really calling to me but phew, gotta love that packaging. If I go to the departments stores Christmas shopping, I can see grabbing one of these for the heck of it if they’re on display. I like the Allure formula.
I’m definitely buying one of these, but I’m having a hard time deciding between 1,2, and 4! They are all too pretty, and I can’t resist the special red packaging.
These are GORGEOUS! And they look amazing on you, Christine.
I love the Rouge Allure Velvet formula and would love to have a Chanel red in my collection. This is soooooo enticing! How can I possibly stick to my “no-buy” plan with shades like these coming out? More important, how do I decide between 02 and 03?
I like what they did with the packaging here. I don’t remember ever seeing an LE packaging for the Allure lipstick!
I love all three of these ?. They’re all such pretty reds!!!
All three!! My envy is red!! You deserve it, Shannon!
What a perfect follow up to the “Temptalia Asks” question of the day! If I had to start over, I might just have to grab up #02. It has a nice balance between warm and cool tones, very smooth looking and just right pigmentation.
But , since I’m not starting over, I will be satisfied with the reds I already own!
Beautiful shades, gorgeous colours.
Man all these are really pretty!
I wonder whether there’s a mistake on Chanel website in respect of descriptions of these lipstick shades? I am not questioning 01 red red and 04 orange red. But 02 pink red and 03 warm red are transposed compared to the swatches we see here – the exact opposites. To me all four shades are gorgeous anyway.
I just checked the tubes (including the gold tube, which has a 2 and 3 respectively, printed on it), and No. 02 is definitely less pink/less cool compared to No. 03, which is definitely pinker.
Many thanks, Christine
These are beautiful reds. I see a (1) pink-red, (2) true red, (3) berry-red and (4) orange-red. That’s a great shade range for the holidays. I’m looking at (1) and that beautiful red and gold packaging. These will probably all sell out very fast.
Oh I want them all, these are so gorgeous. I love Chanel lip products. I know I have dupes upon dupes for red lipstick but I still want them all, lol. I really don’t need another red lipstick but boy oh boy do I want them all!!
Lovely reds but I can’t even look at another red, the reds have been so overwhelming this year!
nobody does red like chanel, IMO—pirate is my favorite of all time. love all of these!
