Chanel Lively Rosewood No. 1 Lip & Cheek Balm Review & Swatches
Lively Rosewood (5)
Chanel Lively Rosewood (5) No. 1 de Chanel Lip & Cheek Balm ($45.00 for 0.23 oz.) is a medium, pinky-plum with warmer undertones and a soft sheen. It had a dewier, glossier finish on my lips and a more satin-like sheen (not fully set or dried down, but it seemed to have a semi-set to it) on my cheeks.
The consistency was lightweight, despite some tackiness, and spreadable whether on cheeks or on lips. It had semi-sheer, buildable pigmentation that applied evenly to bare skin and wasn’t prone to lifting up my base. I was surprised at how even and smooth the product looked applied to my lips. This shade wore well for eight hours on my cheeks and three hours on my lips (and was hydrating).

Formula Overview
$45.00/0.23 oz. - $195.65 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have a "nourishing, buttery formula" that "melts into skin" and add a "touch of colour." The brand recommended dabbing it on lips and/or cheeks, though it could be used with precise brushes if desired. I found fingertips worked well for both methods, though as a lip product, I could see a standalone lip brush being more ideal (I feel like I needed more product on my lips than for my cheeks).
The texture was like a thicker gel with noticeable tackiness, so I was very surprised that the product applied well on top of foundation and wasn't prone to lifting it up. On my cheeks, it dried down noticeably, though not fully, so it had a satiny sheen but did not appear as dewy as initially applied. On my lips, it retained more shine for longer, but it wasn't particularly long-wearing as a lip product.
It had sheer to semi-sheer, buildable pigmentation, which was most readily achieved on my lips. The light tackiness and thickness of the product seemed to help it work well on my lips as a lot of tinted lip balms are often so thin that they are prone to settling into my lip lines or catching on texture imperfections.
They lasted seven to eight hours as a cheek product before migrating a bit, and they lasted two to four hours as a lip product and were hydrating to wear.

Now this I could so see wearing even around the house or in the skilled nursing facility after my upcoming hospitalization… speaking of which, I am currently in the hospital, but for a very frightening severe asthma attack that caused other issues that I will spare you all the gory details of. I’ve been put in a room for at least today for observation and treatment. Haven’t had one this serious in DECADES!
Sorry to hear this, Nancy. I hope you feel better soon.
Thank you, SueG! Will definitely be resting up between breathing treatments with the brand new nebulizer, drinking lots of hot fluids, too.
Yikes sounds like a nice new lip color would be a nice treat for you- hope you get well soon, and good luck with your surgery!
Me thinks so too, Lisa Marie! Like, definitely a really pretty, yet very easy to wear present to myself sure would be nice!
Be well soon, Nancy! Love that you can comment after such a nasty episode. I always enjoy hearing your responses. Mind telling us where you live?
Leigh, the solu-medrol and the additional steroids in the breathing treatments they were giving me had me that insane level of energetic! Was literally awake for 36-37 hours straight due to that and a brightly lit room, plus doctors and nurses coming to treat me kept me up and revved up. Glad to be home. Which is in the Phoenix AZ metro area.
