Burberry Kisses Cedar Rose, Boysenberry, Midnight Plum Sheer Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches
Cedar Rose (281)
Burberry Cedar Rose (281) Kisses Sheer Lipstick ($34.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a muted, medium mauve with warm undertones and a luminous, pearlescent sheen. It had incredibly fine shimmer strewn throughout that gave it a luminous finish that was a bit glossy, a bit pearly, but it wasn’t frosted or metallic. The pigmentation ranged from medium (one layer) to mostly opaque (two layers) where there was a hint of my lip freckle peeking through. It had a lightweight, balmy consistency that some slip but didn’t feel unduly slippery on where the color really shifted around. There was a very slight amount of product that gathered in my deeper lip lines but wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance. It lasted well for three and a half hours and was moisturizing over time.

Formula Overview
$34.00/0.11 oz. - $309.09 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "buildable colour" with a "satin finish" and "continuous hydration." They have medium, buildable coverage with some shades having more semi-opaque, buildable coverage. I found that "a layer" depended on the shade, as some seemed to go on more heavily--and looked more like a cream finish--and others were more emollient, a bit thinner, and translucent and had more of a stained-like finish. The brand recommended "two to three" layers for more "intense depth and vibrancy." For all swatches, I applied two layers, and in each shade's respective review, you'll find the coverage range described. Generally speaking, though, they definitely weren't ultra-sheer in one layer; two layers was only needed for more opaque coverage with most shades.
The consistency was more emollient with noticeable slip, which made it easy to apply across my lips, but they can feel like they're melting as you apply. In my experience, this can lead to over-applying product, so it's just something I'm more aware of while applying this type of formula to ensure that I don't layer on too much product. Most shades applied evenly, but a fair number of them had slight settling--the kind that I can see in the close-up photos but not so much just looking in the mirror--to more noticeable settling in my lip lines due to how much slip the formula had. The slip made them comfortable, like a juicy lip balm, and the hydration was there throughout wear and my lips didn't feel dry or tight for hours after the color had worn off. They lasted between three and five hours on me with some of the richer, deeper hues leaving behind subtle stains.
There wasn't any noticeable scent or taste. Burberry's lipstick cases close magnetically, which I've found keeps the caps on very securely and ensures that it always closes when you put the cap back on!

Boysenberry (289)
Burberry Boysenberry (289) Kisses Sheer Lipstick ($34.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a brighter, medium plum with subtle, warm undertones and cooler, fuchsia and violet pearl. The shimmer was very fine, and there was only a dusting of it; enough that there was a subtle shimmer-sheen finish but didn’t read “shimmery” when I looked at my lips in a mirror. The consistency was lightweight, emollient with the glide of a more liquid balm. The color coverage was medium in one about one layer, and then buildable to semi-opaque coverage with two to three layers. It wore well for four hours without feathering and was hydrating while worn.

Midnight Plum (297)
Burberry Midnight Plum (297) Kisses Sheer Lipstick ($34.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a medium-dark, reddened plum with subtle, warm undertones and fine fuchsia micro-shimmer dusted through the color. It had semi-sheer, buildable pigmentation to medium coverage with two layers and and semi-opaque coverage with three layers. It had more translucency compared to most shades (which often looked creamier), so if you tend to like lip stains and more blotted color, it might be a good match. The lipstick was smooth, emollient, and felt like it “melted” as it glided across my lips, though I didn’t experience any feathering. It stayed on well for four and a half hours and was moisturizing over time.

These are stunning, the finish is really something special. I’m back on my lipstick no buy (this time if I go a whole year I think I’ll get microbladed!) but if I weren’t I’d go swatch Cedar Rose this afternoon. Here’s to hoping it’s permanent. 🙂
They’re all very pretty, but Cedar Rose is especially gorgeous! I have similar shades, so I’ll be good and stick with my no-buy. Tempting, though.
This looks lovely. Definitely my kind of color and formula.
These are all really pretty shades. I think the formula sounds very comfortable to wear. I have almost every shade of the L’Oreal Colour Riche Shines and love them so pretty well covered in the sheer lip category. I also have a couple of the Rouge Bunny Rouge Sheer Lips which I also love so I feel confident that I can dupe these shades in my stash pretty easily. They all look beautiful on you, Christine.
And…I walked into a minefield. All 3 are true beauties. With Pomegranate and Cedar Rose making it onto the ole WL. Man, lipstick is dangerous to the health of my wallet!
*Boysenberry, not Pomegranate. I totally goofed and thought of the wrong fruit! ?
Christine, I think I may have stumbled onto a dupe for our beloved UD Rebel, but I can’t be sure. I just checked your database to see if you had a picture of Lancome Absolu Rouge in Amande Sucree, but you don’t. I used to wear it exclusively and the other day I decided to revisit it. I always line my lips with UD Liar which is MLBB. I think the combination is a match. I didn’t want to add it as a dupe since I couldn’t verify it without a picture.
All three of these are lovely. I’m going to turn into a sheer lipstick lover at this rate.
I like all three, but would pick Cedar Rose first if I’d have to chose. Boysenberry comes a very close second, and if I win the lottery I’d buy both. Ha, if that was to happen I’d get all three.
Really lovely and so very tempting. I’m forcing myself to think, three digit, nowhere to store new lipsticks, Just stop thinking about them and scroll on! 😉
OMG, these are stunning! I’m going to have look into the ingredients!
