Bite Beauty Opal/Jam Amuse Bouche Lipstick Duo Review, Photos, Swatches
Bite Beauty Opal/Jam Amuse Bouche Lipstick Duo
Bite Beauty Opal/Jam Amuse Bouche Lipstick Duo ($14.00 for 0.10 oz.) is an iridescent, translucent white paired with a deep plum-berry. I didn’t expect to review this as I have swatches for the individual shades, but I happened to receive as a press sample, so I figured might as well! 🙂 It’s a nice duo and fairly consistent with the other three.
Each of the Amuse Bouche Lipstick Duos includes one shimmery shade and one cream shade. The cream shade is part of the permanent range of Amuse Bouche lipsticks. Per the brand’s description, the shimmery shade is supposed to be a “foiled top coat,” though you can wear either shade on its own. I love that Bite has really affordable options during the holidays; I think these are a great way to try the brand’s Amuse Bouche formula, but they’re fitting with the holiday season in a fun, practical way. I had no issues with stability of the smaller-sized lipsticks when applying directly from the tube either, which can be an issue with minis.
Value
- Amuse Bouche Lipstick: $26.00 for 0.15 oz. or $173.33/oz.
- Total Value: $17.33
Opal is an iridescent, translucent white with shimmer that shifts between bluish violet and icy blue. It had a strong sheen without obvious sparkle or shimmer. It had semi-sheer to semi-opaque color coverage that applied fairly evenly. The consistency was smooth, thin without being dry or stiff in the tube. It lasted for three and a half hours on its own, but it didn’t seem to shorten the wear when layered over another longer-wearing lip product. MAC Cold Front (LE, $19.00) is lighter (95% similar). Bite Beauty Opal (LE, $24.00) is warmer (95% similar). NARS Tender Night (LE, $27.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Surratt Beauty Cultive (P, $36.00) is more pigmented (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Isamaya (LE, $36.00) is warmer (90% similar). MAC Pervette (P, $19.00) is darker, warmer (95% similar). Dior Diorstellaire (595) (P, $37.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (85% similar). Pat McGrath Amethyst Astral (P, $36.00) is less shimmery, less pigmented, warmer (85% similar). Fenty Beauty Supanova (LE, $19.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). MAC Florabundi (LE, $19.00) is more pigmented, warmer (80% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Lavender Extreme (LE, $57.00) is more shimmery, darker, warmer (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Jam is a muted, medium-dark berry plum with subtle, cool undertones and very, very fine shimmer. I felt like this was slightly cooler and more pigmented than the individual one I reviewed previously, and it seemed to have a touch less slip, which might have accounted for its better coverage and overall application. It wore well for over six hours, left a stain behind, and was lightly hydrating. MAC Cordovan (DC, $21.00) is warmer (95% similar). MAC Out With a Bang (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery, lighter, warmer (95% similar). Smashbox Black Cherry (LE, $21.00) is lighter, cooler (95% similar). MAC Marsala (DC, $21.00) is lighter (90% similar). Bite Beauty Sugared Maple (LE, $24.00) is cooler (95% similar). Bite Beauty Mulberry (DC, $24.00) is lighter (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Jack (2016) (P, $36.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Burning Love (P, $22.00) is less shimmery, lighter, less glossy (90% similar). Urban Decay Bruise (LE, $18.00) is warmer (90% similar). Lancome Berry Noir (397) (P, $32.00) is warmer (90% similar). MAC More Than a Woman (LE, $19.00) is more muted (95% similar). Bite Beauty Beetroot (DC, $26.00) is lighter, brighter, less glossy (90% similar). Urban Decay Venom (DC, $18.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). MAC What Joy (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery, less glossy (95% similar). Bite Beauty Beetroot (P, $28.00) is less shimmery, less glossy (90% similar). Chanel Cassis (P, $37.00) is darker (90% similar). Guerlain #80 (P, $33.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Bite Beauty Plum (LE, $24.00) is darker, warmer (95% similar). Hourglass Warrior (P, $32.00) is darker, more muted (95% similar). Lancome Nuit Parisienne (493) (P, $32.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

I really like how they look individually and paired together! This is a really pretty combo, I hope I can find time to pick it up in stores soon.
It altered the color of Jam quite a bit – really brightened it!
uh oh i think u forgot to insert the pics? 😉
I see photos?
I definitely think this is one of the nicest of the Bite duos this year! I like how there’s actually a visible transformation with Opal over top of Jam (unlike say Gold/Sour Cherry, which had only a subtle difference).
It’s too bad though, because I was so sure I was going to by this, but looking at the Opal + Jam swatch, it looks like that shade is way too bright and cool for me. Also, Jam alone might be too similar to Beetroot (which I own).
Aww, darn! 🙁
I really like this combo, especially this version of Opal!
By the way, I know the full size Opal was originally listed as limited edition (and still is in your review), but based on the way it is now listed on Sephora, I think it has become a permanent part of the line.
I already have, and love, Jam, but I also love this Opal — I think it would make a great top coat for me. At least it’s only $14! I agree that Bite does holiday sets well — you can try formulas and shade in small sizes, and the same year-round quality is usually there!
It’s nice that they put permanent shades in some sets! Bummer if you already have a lot of Bite products but great for trying the brand out!
Wow, what a dramatic transformation! I’m going to skip, as I already have full size of Opal and dupes for Jam, but this is great, like getting 3 looks in 1
Glad you have Opal already, Katherine!
I’m so excited this got a fab review from you. I just ordered this with my Sephora Friends & Family discount! Coming next week! I Love the Amuse Bouche lipsticks.
Can’t wait for you to get it, Mandee!
I already have Opal, but I love the combination, and it’s great to throw in my makeup bag! I wonder if these will last until the VIB sale, I’d like to have them all!
They are definitely one of the items I’d be worried about, but they do seem to stock these well based on prior years…
I was hoping to get the Becca Rose Quartz SSP during the sale, but it seems to be permanently out of stock 🙁
If you can’t find them online, look in store. My local store had a ton stocked (actually in two different places).
Thanks Abbey, that’s good to know! 🙂
I was already planning on ordering it this next week, but I’m glad I saw the swatches because the two combined is gorgeous!
Yay! Hope you enjoy it, Alice!
My Sephora did not have this in store 🙁 I wanted to get it and redeem my birthday gift as well. Instead, I picked up the Laura Mercier Holiday Caviar sticks 🙂
Awww! 🙁
All of these look so good on you! As much as I wanted this one, I already have a full size Opal that I really need to use more!
Thank you, Rachel!
Surely you have a berry/plum shade you can use Opal on 😉
I need it! I was just going to get this yesterday but the NARS mind games set was sold out online so I’m waiting 🙁
I was surprised to see Mind Games sell out!
The combination of the two is kinda nice actually!
This is by far my favorite duo, and I was expecting this to be the most transforming haha. One thing I’m concerned about though is that, after I tried swatching opal over another lipstick before, I noticed the color transferred onto opal and made it messy. Is that something that’s just unavoidable? My only experience with layering lipsticks has been in the red-purple color range, and the white color made it just so obvious I kinda got queasy at how muddy it gets. Still amazing combination, I might get it anyway lol.
Wow!!! Those are gorgeous together! ?
Gives me some *little* inspiration for another way to play with UD Bruise (about to buy!) , add a touch of TF Unicorn Tears (which I already own!) on top!?
Gorgeous shade and the duo effect looks very moisturising.
It is a lovely combo!
Wow! The shimmer in Opal is amazing!
It is!
I wonder how Sephora gets the $24 value that they list on their site.
No idea – it is 0.10 oz. and full-size is 0.15 oz., so there’s no way it can be $24 if full-size is $26!
I picked this up and really like it. Your review is spot on!
Awesome, Bonnie! 😀
I was hoping you’d review this one! I was really excited to see how they layer together; it looks beautiful!
Happy they sent it over then! 🙂
Can you please let us know what you used on your eyes?! The green is so beautiful on you, i need to know!
Excited to try this duo! This will be my first product from Bite! Ordered last night on Sephora app for 10$ just to get the free shipping. Also ordered the new Nicole Guerriero Glow Kit. Thanks for all of your awesome reviews, it helps me decide on future makeup purchases!
