The blush/highlighter sticks and Jelly Much eyeshadows are the big hits of this collection. Lovely shades and great ratings.
Main thing (probably only thing) I have my eye on is the Flycatcher/ Aviary cheek duo. Both shades are lovely and fresh!
If I have the 9 pan Love Bird palette do I still need the 12 pan palette or are they similar enough?
The releases have become mind numbing. It seems almost a daily event. I’m not knocking a good deal, and have purchased plenty from CP over the years, and it’s fab to have routinely good quality for less, but find myself less and less inspired due to the sheer volume. Signing into CP, I wind up with a basket of things I really don’t need/want because placing an order for a $12 items seems a waste of shipping cost. The value is lost. It’s become a whole love/hate thing for me for sure.
I like to think of the way to approach ColourPop is just that it’s not a brand designed for one to keep up with / purchase something from (or even be interested by) every launch. They’re always there in the background, and they have, thus far, managed to keep quality fairly consistent, so when you’re curious about what’s current… they’re there. For me, it is hard to get too frustrated with ColourPop for so many launches since the quality hasn’t fallen, and they are one of the more affordable brands (with good quality!), so I like that they’re providing affordable products and forcing other brands to step up their offerings.
I would love to see them improve their core range, though; I feel like for as much as they launch, I don’t know why they haven’t really fleshed out + established a true core range of shades for all of their lines. At least with MAC, there’s been a definitive core shade range along with an endless stream of new shades. I also think they dupe themselves too often in the pursuit of a stream of releases, like I’d rather they reuse shades from the past than create something “new” that is 95% the same.
I don’t want to know where it all ends up.. I applaud the affordability, but also know from my own experience know I am much more likely to donate something I spent a little more money and probably trash that which I didn’t. Fast fashion brings up the same issue for me.. But, as you mention, they at least set a respectable and consistent bar for quality (MAC, not so much for LE), so I can definitely commend that.
Yeah, the allure of affordability vs. whether it’s still something that we’re going to use is tough spot – ColourPop plays into that mentality of making it easier to try things we won’t “love” or that we don’t “need” (soft need, you know, as “need” as makeup can be) because they perform pretty well and are more affordable but if they end up going unused or being trashed, then it’s definitely something to re-think. I don’t know that it’s something a brand like ColourPop will ever really pull back on. I actually feel like it’s MAC all over again, just cheaper, and we all kind of find a saturation point within a brand / within the industry (or a category) in a way.
