Becca Afterglow Cheek Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Becca Afterglow Palette
Becca Afterglow Palette ($39.50 for 0.26 oz.) is a cheek palette that features three of the brand’s pressed highlighters and two of their blushes. I think it’s a great concept, and it is a nice way to try their famous cheek products, but I do wish the pans were on the larger side; they are the size of your typical eyeshadow (the palette itself is the same size as Becca’s eyeshadow palettes), like MAC, Urban Decay, etc. There is a little space between each pan, so it is possible to use some blush brushes without issue, but it’s something to consider if you tend to use medium or large-sized blush brushes. If you use a highlight brush to apply the pressed highlighters, I think you’ll be just fine, though. The quality of the palette’s contents is fairly comparable to the standalone versions, but I noticed all five seemed ever-so-slightly drier here, as if there was less binder, which actually made the highlighters more forgiving on the skin (Becca’s highlighters have a fine line between gorgeous glow and pore-emphasizing). This palette contains $20.36 worth of highlighters and $17.92 worth of blush for a total value of $38.28, so you’re paying just over a $1 for the “for the price of about one, I get to try five” point of view. (Becca’s highlighters cost $38 each, while the blush comes in at $32 a pop). This particular palette is VERY warm-toned, and I wish they had done a cooler-toned option or else mixed up the shades more to make it more versatile across skin tones. If I could have chosen the shades (assuming only one edition), I would have gone for Pearl (yes, creating a pressed version just for the palette!), Moonstone, Blushed Copper, Hyacinth, and Nightingale–which is really proof that Becca needs to consider adding cooler and more neutral-toned shades into the ranges.
Moonstone is a pale, golden champagne with warm undertones and a luminous shimmer. It had good color payoff with a soft, blendable texture–it was a little drier than my full-size version–that gives the skin a lovely glow. It wore well for eight hours. Becca Moonstone (P, $19.00) is darker (95% similar). Becca Moonstone (DC, $38.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Lethal Cosmetics Isotope (P, $18.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Rose Gold is a soft, light-medium copper with warm undertones and a frosted, golden shimmer-sheen finish. It had good pigmentation with a lightly dusty, but blendable, consistency that sat well on the skin. The shimmer seemed a little larger in the palette than in my full-size version. The color started to fade after eight hours of wear. Becca Rose Gold (DC, $38.00) is glossier (95% similar). Bobbi Brown Golden Bronze Glow (LE, $48.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Topaz is a medium, bronzy brown with warm, yellow undertones and a strong, golden sheen. The version in the palette is noticeably lighter–more subdued–than my standalone compact, which was surprising. The consistency was still quite smooth, blendable, and illuminating on the skin, though, and it didn’t seem less pigmented, just lighter in overall color–not as an intense. Unless applying more heavily, they still looked quite similar applied. This shade wore for eight hours on me. Kevyn Aucoin Sunlight (P, $52.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Becca Topaz (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). Anastasia Golden Bronze (LE, ) is lighter (95% similar). Anastasia Mimosa (LE, ) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Wild Honey is a soft, medium brown with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had good pigmentation with a soft, smooth texture–it seemed more pigmented than my individual (though Becca’s blushes are supposed to be buildable, actually)! This shade wore well for eight hours on me. Zoeva ND020 (PiP, ) is lighter (90% similar). KIKO 100 Cookie (P, $12.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). By Terry Savannah Love #2 (LE, ) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). Stila Sending My Love Bronzer (LE, ) is darker, more muted (90% similar). Flowerchild is a pop of light-medium pink with warm undertones and fine, golden shimmer. Ugh, so so pretty! I love that some of the shades could double as eyeshadow.
I wish they would test them for eyes!
I like this. I have the highlighters individually. But, I have had both of the blushes on my wish list. I don’t need any more of the highlighters. But, it’s a good chance to try the blushes. I wish they would have made a blush palette. Hmm…they are pretty small. Can you get your Suqqu brush in there okay Christine?
SUQQU does fit just barely!
Okay, thank you!
Again too bad Ulta doesn’t ship to Canada as I miss out on this one too. I don’t own any of the highlighters or blushes in this palette. The only Becca highlighter I own is Champagne Pop. This would be a great travel or work palette.
It’s a real shame they didn’t find a Canadian retailer to launch it with!
I think we are an after thought Christine.
Although this is a little late, Hudson’s Bay now sells the afterglow palette online!
You need to procure some US friends who will ship for you or wait to see if you can find it on ebay. Some of my favorites I would find on ebay UK (items not sold or shipped to the US). Good Luck!
Lisa
Yes I definitely need to find some US friends 🙂
I definitely watch Ebay for items that are sold in the US only but sometimes people list them for outrageous prices and ridiculous amounts of shipping too so I pass most of the time.
I know this is a big problem esp now that Sephora has changed their policies with regards to shipping many items to Canada!!! And its not a good change
Companies like My mall box and Shipito give you a USA address and will ship it to you.
But Sephora don’t ship to mymallbox anymore. They don’t ship to forwarding company’s once they find out. I’m in uk and now have to pay loads for Sephora to ship to me.
The bay carries it in Canada! It can be purchased through beautylish and shipped to canada as well
I grabbed this as soon as it became available! I’ve always wanted to different Becca products (esp. Moonstone ), and this is perfect way to do so. I haven’t tried it on my face yet, but glad this got such a great rating! I have a petite face and have a lot of smaller brushes, so I’m ok with smaller pan sizes. I’m a little worried about the warmer colors, but if I warm up my face with Wet N Wild Reserve Your Cabana and some peachy coral lipstick, I can probably make them work.
I hope you can make them work, Katherine!
Is this exclusive to ulta?
Yes!
there is a pressed version of Pearl coming I believe! I think this is a bit small for bush but if they had something like this with 5 highlighters…that would be gorgeous!
Very cool!
I love this concept and the price is decent, but I agree that they should’ve done some bigger sizes for a blush palette.
I think maybe a trio? Perhaps a highlighter trio and blush trio.
I really like this palette, so much that i got a backup. even though I already own 2 full-size highlighters I got it anyway for the blush. I was just happy to see that it had no opal! every becca kit I get always has either a liquid or pressed form of opal. I have so many many mini opals it’s not even funny. I’ve always wanted to try the blush but didn’t want to put out that kind of money. even the box is pretty with the holographic designs it looks like it’s twinkling. Sucker for packaging! Lol
Very nice, Trina! I’m so glad you’re enjoying it as much as you are 🙂
Anyone with fair skin use and like Topaz?
I own three of the five (Moonstone, Rose Gold, and Wild Honey) and have been wanting Flower Child. If Topaz works on my skin, then I might get this and have a really great travel palette.
You could also consider mixing Topaz with other shades 🙂
WISH this was sold in Canada (we dont have Ulta). I really hope it sells well and they come out with something similar for Sephora! THanks for the review.. it looks awesome!!
I wish they did something at a Canadian retailer!
I own 2 products in the palette so this is a pass for me but will a great stocking stuffer for my daughter 🙂
Lucky daughter!
I’m excited for this one, I’ve been wanting to try both of those blushes, moonstone, and rose gold but I agree, a pressed version of pearl would have been bomb! I apply my sample size opal with a small stippling brush often so I think I’ll be able to make the small pans work.
Sounds like a good plan 🙂
They’re making a pressed Pearl perfector! Release date is spring 2016, but they are releasing sneak peeks by December!!!
Cool!
This palette is definitely on my list. It’s such a good deal and I only own one item from the palette (Rose Gold).
Hope you can check it out!
That palette is gorgeous, but clearly not for pale people, which is a shame. I feel like I could use maybe 2 colours from the palette. Hopefully if this takes off, then they will bring out a better shade range one!
Hopefully!
Flowerchild is so pretty! I thought this was an eye palette when I first glanced at the picture. I’d probably be just as likely to use it on my eyes as my cheeks.
Haha! I wish they had tested and said “OK for eyes!” because then it would be more versatile.
I never let that stop me. lol
Seriously, thanks for letting me know they aren’t approved for eyes. I’d test them out carefully if I end up getting this.
This is a nice way to try out some of Becca’s cheek products, but I totally agree with you that there ought to have been a cooler option! Looking at Wild Honey and Topaz, I feel like they would barely even show up on me that well because I’m neither dark nor light. Just not sure if I’d buy it or not.
I think Topaz would be pretty on you, but Wild Honey is likely to just be too blended in 🙁
I’m annoyed only because this is a Ulta (US) exclusive. >_< I would have picked this up for sure.
It’s so strange to me that brands don’t find a Canadian retailer to partner with!
Flowerchild is a blush I should probably add to my collection. It just looks so nice on everyone and it’s versatile.
It is a nice one!
Cool concept. I would probably purchase for travel if they had put a regular bronzer instead of topaz. Topaz is way too dark of a highlight for my complexion. I already have full size of moonstone, flowerchild, and wild honey. Although rose gold intrigues me. May have to check out the full size. But im thinking of going with the anastasia riviera for a pinky highlight and peach nectar for peach highlight.
Have you considered mixing Topaz with Moonstone?
I love the colours, but I do see what you mean about the pan sizes. I think it would be a bit tricky to use if you just wanted one colour. However they are all lovely. I would like to see this in a kind of mosaic, larger container so I could swirl some of the colours together.
It’s possible, but you have to pick the right brush!
I think I’d rather just pick up my 2 favorites individually. I’m loving Flowerchild & Moonstone.
That works! 🙂
I have the palette and only rose gold and topaz fits me. Haven’t really tried the blushes yet. Why do u wish they were cool toned but you’re warm to end, Christine,?
Warm-tones can wear cool-tones, so I don’t know why I couldn’t wear cooler-toned shades if they were included! I think the palette is extremely warm-toned, and it could be more wearable and versatile with better variety – for all 🙂
Okay, I think I need it!!
Woohoo!
Question!
Do you feel that Topaz is a dupe for The Balm’s Betty Lou?
Topaz is yellower and lighter; Betty-Lou has red in its base!
Yes! Now I see the difference .. Thank you ♡
This is soooo pretty!! Makes me wish I could pull off warm tones!! I do wish they would do a cool-toned version, which I would prefer over a mix of tones within a palette! I would gladly sacrifice a little bit of value for a variety of shades I could wear!
Even a mix of undertones would be nice to see, as you can always mix and match.
They DO sell this in Canada!!! You can find it at the Bay 🙂
I have this ! I used the Temptalia link to buy when you first showed it. The pan sizes are small but workable. I’ve only worn them a couple times but the wear time seems a little short. I own a full size of Opal and love it.!
I don’t own any Becca. This would be a good start as I ahve been wanting Moonstone for some time, but I do have enough highlighters. Flowerchild is also so pretty. I have a feeling the other blushes/highlighters are a bit too warm for me. I would like them as eyeshadows, though, so if this is in any way available I might just get it.
LOVE this palette! I bought it last week and I have been having so much fun with it. I have already taken it on a trip. Its well-made sleek packaging screams “bring me”. My skin is NC 20-25 and this is perfect! Of all the colors, Topaz is my least favorite (because of my skin tone), but easily made appealling by blending with another shade. The Becca powders are so divine, the fact that flowerchild may be a LITTLE drier than in the big compact is of little consequence to me (though very important for review purposes of course) because they are so far ahead of others in this area on the market and do not in any way interfere with appliction or durability. It’s nice not to have to bring the very large BECCA compacts for travel. My neices will be getting these in their stockings this year!!!
I love the packaging of this. I might get it for travel , even though I can’t use the blushes. SN: Christine, there is a huge pop up ( six flags ) that pops up every time I switch pages , or If I stay on a page too long. I’m on mobile – is that able to be disabled?
My ad network said they removed the ad about two hours after I reported it (a reader sent me a screen shot) – it should be gone as of ~4PM PST 10/6, so let me know if you still get it!
This looks really nice, but I find blush always looks terrible on me; it just seems to emphasise my uneven skin tone *sigh*
Thanks for the review, Christine. You always make me want to buy things!!! And I have never purchased a makeup product before checking what you have to say about it first! On that note, I would like to ask your opinion about this palette in comparison with theBalm Manizer Sisters Palette. I know you like that one, but which one do you like better? Thanks!
I like theBalm’s a bit better – they’re easier to use 🙂
Thank you so much for your reply, Christine! I’ll probably wait until Black Friday to get it… 😀
Oh my gosh, a must have!! ❤️
I think this palette is incredible. So glad I get to test out the highlighters and blushes without fully committing to a big size that I probably couldn’t finish. I also have one of the liquid highlighters in Rose Gold, so I tend to mix that in with my foundation and then throw on one of these highlighters afterwards.
I also have Nars in Albatross – TBH I like that highlighter formula better because it’s a little less shimmery, but if I toss Hourglass finishing powder in Dim over everything it tones it down a little.
