NARS Vengeful Dual-Intensity Blush Duo Review, Photos, Swatches

NARS Vengeful Dual-Intensity Blush
NARS Vengeful Dual-Intensity Blush

NARS Vengeful Dual-Intensity Blush ($45.00 for 0.21 oz.) contains a highlighter and blush shade in the wet/dry Dual Intensity formula. I like this formula, but the ratings may make it appear less desirable, which is a result of NARS claiming that it is more intense dry and “translucent” applied wet–the complete opposite of reality. (Even funnier, this isn’t how the eyeshadow version of the formula is described!) I think if you tend to like this type of wet/dry formula, it’s a formula worth considering. This duo gave me a very fall-into-holiday vibe, as you have the rustiness of the blush shade that represents fall, while the more traditional shimmering gold screams holiday.

Vengeful (Left) is described as a “white-gold highlight.” It’s a light-medium, golden beige with subtle, warm undertones and a frosted sheen. Applied dry, it had good pigmentation with a fine, shimmer-sheen finish, while damp application yielded slightly more intense pigmentation and a more frosted finish. The damp application just barely emphasizes pores, but I didn’t have any issues with pores becoming more noticeable when I used it dry. The color lasted for eight hours dry, nine hours damp. Estee Lauder Courreges (LE, $32.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Burberry Gold Glow No. 01 (LE, $68.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (90% similar). Make Up For Ever 13 Ivory (P, $21.00) is more shimmery, darker, warmer (85% similar). Becca Moonstone (DC, $38.00) is less shimmery, warmer (85% similar). Colour Pop Lunch Money (P, $8.00) is lighter (85% similar). Becca Moonstone (P, $38.00) is lighter (85% similar). NARS Frenzy (Left) (PiP, ) is darker, warmer (80% similar). Melt Cosmetics Ghostlight (P, $22.00) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Vengeful (Right) is described as a “shimmering brick-red.” It’s a medium-dark, subtly bright copper-red with warm undertones and a luminous sheen. It had intense color coverage applied wet or dry, though it was deeper and richer when applied damp. The finish went from a softly luminous one to decidedly luminous as the application went from dry to damp. The texture was soft, smooth, and fairly blendable, but it was easier to blend out when dry. It wore well for eight and a half hours dry, nine and a half hours damp. MAC Hidden Treasure (LE, $24.00) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). NARS Almeria (LE, $30.00) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). NARS Realm of the Senses #2 (LE, $30.00) is more shimmery, darker, cooler (90% similar). MAC A Little Lusty (LE, $24.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). NARS Taos (P, $30.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Contour (Softcore) (LE, $60.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). MAC Flirting with Danger (P, $29.00) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Gucci Beauty Cherry Nectar (DC, $49.00) is warmer (90% similar). MAC Gleeful (P, $29.00) is cooler (90% similar). MAC Burnt Pepper (P, $24.00) is less shimmery, warmer (95% similar). Clinique Cola Pop (P, $21.00) is darker (90% similar). Becca Maui Nights (P, $38.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). NARS Soulshine #3 (LE, $30.00) is more shimmery, brighter, cooler (85% similar). MAC Glamour Feast (LE, $21.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (85% similar). Colour Pop Bardot (P, $8.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). NARS Lovejoy (P, $30.00) is more shimmery, darker, more muted (85% similar). MAC Taraji Glow (LE, $34.00) is less shimmery, darker (85% similar). NARS Seduction (P, $30.00) is darker, cooler (80% similar). Colour Pop Drop of a Hat (LE, $8.00) is more shimmery, lighter (80% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Ravish (Discontinued) (DC, $60.00) is lighter, cooler (80% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Wow, this is an intense one! Very pretty, will be great for medium or darker skintones. It looks just great applied dry, not sure why I would want to apply blush/highlighter wet. I think the PR dept was going into overdrive to come up with some new twist to sell this

It’s funny, because the eyeshadows are marketed as sheerer dry/richer wet, so why the same type of formula wouldn’t just have the same type of spiel is odd! Especially since it’s very rare that wet = sheerer, lol!

I love this, but the red will probably look awful on me in winter 🙁 If only water actually made it translucent!

I like both of them and am adding it to my wish list for the collection. I think the claim they make with the wet/dry thing is totally silly though. I don’t see myself ever using it wet.

When I saw this duo in the pre-release photos I was super drawn to those colors! They are equally beautiful swatched! I’m really curious Christine if these mix very easily and what an overlap swatch would look like? Is that even a technique useable with this formula? Thank you!!

Hi Christine! This looks very pretty on you! What would you say the rating would be had Nars described it in the same way as they do their eye shadows of the same formula? Thank you! Been loving Temptalia everyday, just haven’t been having lots of time for commenting lately! I enjoy all the work that you do!

Well, they’re not sheer dry either, so they wouldn’t really do well in that sense either! Maybe a little bump up.

Love it!!! However, I do already have dupes, especially for the blush end of it: Burnt Pepper and probably Clinique Cola Pop are close enough, and Lunch Money is STILL in my CP cart with Dr. M! LoL!

I do believe that their backwards description of how this wet/dry application is supposed to work needs to be fixed ( FINALLY) on their end, because it’s illogical to keep it this way!

I remember wondering if it was an error, but it was pretty consistently used and marketed (with the brush for the product) that way 🙁

The Red side looks very intense and I think you need to have a certain type of complexion to wear this successfully. On me it would look as if I was sunburnt. The highlighter shade is very pretty.

Oh I really like this! Hard to explain why I’m just drawn to some of these really intense colors- but I love this on you Christine and it looks as good as when you wear corals with pink on the edges. I’m for sure getting this! Thanks for the swatch!

This is beautiful!! Totally the first nars dual-intensity blush I’ve been really tempted to buy!!! Although, I would literally never wear this wet, and it looks perfect applied dry!

I don’t think this is for me. I think I have highlighters to last me my lifetime. Still it is a nice set if you use both products.
I rarely use highlighters, at all, actually.

I absolutely have to have this! I’m a gold highlight junkie and the blush looks perfect for fall and winter too

In terms of texture/feel, yes, I think they could, but just be cautious as they could contain dyes or even the type/size of any particles may not be eye safe (as it is formulated for cheeks). I’m not sure either way but just wanted to pass on the concern!!
