Anastasia Lustrous Lip Gloss Set
Anastasia Lustrous Lip Gloss Set ($40.00 for 1.28 fl. oz.) includes eight, full-sized (0.16 oz. each) of the brand’s bestselling Lip Glosses. This set is a great value, as it contains $128.00 worth of Lip Gloss. The formula is supposed to be “ultra-smooth” and “weightless” with the “intensity of a stain” and “the mirror-like shine of a gloss.” Overall, the formula is semi-opaque to totally opaque with a mostly non-sticky consistency (it gets a little tacky towards the end of wear) and a wear time that varies between three and five hours. It was lightly to moderately hydrating while worn, and they applied evenly for the most part. I quite liked the set (and it’s such a great value), but there are a few misses in it.
Gilded is described as a “metallic champagne gold.” It’s a gold-shimmered coppery orange with warm undertones and a metallic shine. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a smooth, creamy texture that glided on and felt comfortable to wear. It applied fairly evenly, and the high-shine finish helped distract from any areas that were imperfectly covered. On me, the gloss lasted for four and a half hours. Bobbi Brown Bronzed Pink (LE, $19.00) is less pigmented (85% similar). MAC Prancin' Dancin' (LE, $20.00) is cooler (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Dainty is described as an “opaque retro pink.” It’s a light, peachy-pink with warm undertones and a cream finish. I felt like this was the most disappointing in the set as it was hard to make it look good; it applied with noticeable streaks and tended to settle into lip lines while it wore. The gloss was comfortable to wear at least, and it wore for four hours. Charlotte Tilbury Bardot Beige (P, $22.00) is lighter, less pigmented (95% similar). MAC Pleasure First (LE, $20.00) is darker (95% similar). NYX Tres Leches (P, $5.99) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Urban Decay Midnight Cowgirl (DC, $26.00) is darker, more muted, less pigmented (90% similar). Sephora Perfect Nude (04) (P, $12.00) is less pigmented (90% similar). NARS Vida Loca (LE, $26.00) is darker, less pigmented (90% similar). MAC Kind Kiss (LE, $20.00) is darker (90% similar). Chanel Super Nude (137) (LE, $34.00) is darker (90% similar). MAC Peachstock (LE, $21.00) is lighter, less pigmented, warmer (90% similar). MAC Spanking Haute (LE, $20.00) is darker, more muted (85% similar). Tarte Hella (P, $20.00) is lighter, cooler (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Sunset Strip is described as a “fiery gold-flecked pink.” It’s a medium, coppery-orange with gold, pink, and silver sparkle. It had semi-sheer color coverage with a glossy shine, but it could have applied more evenly. I didn’t have any issues with the sparkle traveling, but I could feel it after two hours of wear. The gloss lasted for three and a half hours and was hydrating. ColourPop Come Thru (P, $8.00) is less shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Illamasqua Culminate (LE, $24.00) is lighter (90% similar). Becca Beach Nectar (LE, $22.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (90% similar). ColourPop Champagne Mami (P, $10.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (90% similar). Charlotte Tilbury Champagne Diamonds (P, $32.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Pat McGrath Bronze Venus (P, $30.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). YSL Chase Me Nude (P, $32.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (85% similar). NARS Risky Business (P, $26.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). Metallic Rose is described as a “shimmery classic mauve.” It’s a slightly muted, medium-dark rose with warm undertones and lighter pink and white shimmer. Weekend Barbie is described as a “vivid Mattel pink.” It’s a bright, medium-dark fuchsia pink with strong, cool blue undertones and a smattering of fuchsia shimmer. It had mostly opaque color coverage that went on very smoothly with a high-shine finish. The gloss lasted for five and a half hours on me, and it was moisturizing while worn. Tom Ford Beauty Erotic (P, $54.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). Anastasia Petal (-, $16.00) is lighter, warmer (95% similar). Burberry Pink Sweet Pea (LE, $29.00) is more shimmery, lighter, brighter (90% similar). Revlon HD Pink Ruby (515) (DC, $8.99) is more shimmery, brighter (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Boom Boom (210) (DC, $28.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). Urban Decay Big Bang (DC, $26.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Date Night is described as a “romantic ruby red.” It’s a brightened, medium-dark red with cool, blue undertones and lighter fuchsia and ruby red shimmer. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a lightweight texture that applied smoothly and evenly. It wore well for five hours on me and was comfortable to wear as it was hydrating. Revlon Fatal Apple (DC, $7.99) is warmer (95% similar). Urban Decay 69 (DC, $26.00) is brighter (95% similar). NARS Burning Love (LE, $26.00) is lighter, brighter (95% similar). MAC Hot/Cold (LE, $21.00) is darker, more muted (90% similar). MAC Carmine Rouge (LE, $30.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Socialite is described as a “sophisticated scarlet red.” It’s a rich, medium red with subtle, cool undertones and a creamy finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage with a slightly thicker consistency compared to the other glosses in the set. It was easy to over-apply this color, so I recommend using less than you think initially to get the best application. It wore well for five hours on me and was lightly hydrating. MAC Ruby Woo (P, $21.00) is darker (95% similar). Urban Decay 69 (DC, $26.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Anastasia Neon Apple (-, $16.00) is lighter, brighter (95% similar). Black Cherry is described as a “moody plum purple.” It’s a muted, dark burgundy with subtle, warmer undertones and a cream finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation and applied unevenly; the color tended to pull into lip lines after two to three hours of wear (with total wear at four and a half hours). Nice set. If it were more consistent with the grades I would be tempted. But, there are only a few shades I like and I have dupes. So, think I’m passing on this.
OMG..Is this permanent?! I think I may have changed my mind!
Ack. So sorry. I saw “permanent” under the three I like! I get it. Still a good value. Ignore me. 4 hours of sleep.
No worries! All the shades in the set are permanent, though 🙂
Totally understand!
*whispers* if they can still make a profit selling 8 of these for $40, you gotta wonder what their profit margin is for the retail sale of 1. *end whisper* o_0
This seems like a really good deal for lip gloss fans!
That is true, lol!
I love the looks of this set. Dainty is kind of milky, but I really like the rest of the colors.
It’s pretty good! I liked how shimmery + pigmented most were!
There is not one color in the set that REALLY excites me, so this is an easy pass for me 🙂
Your wallet is safe! 🙂
I’m tempted like Nicole only three shades that I like… I’ll have to wait till another time for a real ABH spree since I live in the uk I want to make sure I get most things I want all in one go and not bit by bit ? Lol
Maybe next time then! 🙂
I would have totally bought Gilded if it was in a cream eyeshadow form lol! xx
lol@
Not bad! $40. for 8 full-size glosses is a great deal, although it has me scratching my head as to how they managed that! I may just get these because I really like 5-6 of the shades enough (I think?) to justify buying it.
It’s a fantastic deal for sure! I enjoyed the set a lot more than I have most of ABH’s products!
I was so happy to see your review. It’s great to see the colors on. So helpful, Bought and waiting for them!!
Happy to help, Lena! 😀
Oh they all look beautiful on you! I wish my sephora had them *sobs*
I wish Sephora had ’em, too!
Macy’s has a good return policy, if you don’t like them it’s easy to send them back or return it to a store and several people on eBay are selling them.
If this were the matte liquid lipsticks, it’d be a no brainer. But I really only care for some of these glosses and I rarely wear gloss as it is. It’s a good deal if you like gloss but I’d rather spend it on Colour Pop, which I haven’t tried yet. Thanks for the review though!
Aw, that’s too bad! It is a great deal, which is nice to see. Hope you can try ColourPop soon, Rachael 🙂
I’d rather pick and choose. Date Night and Weekend Barbie have caught my eye before. I have the dupe for WB and one for Socialite. I’m moving away from glosses or trying to use up what I have!
Hopefully you can try these sometime!
I like the look of this set, apart from Dainty which is too pale for me, sounds like good value too.
It’s a great deal!
Gilded, Sunset Strip, and Metallic Rose are so pretty! I love the shimmer. If I didn’t have so many glosses to use up, I would consider getting a single. But hope others get to enjoy this set
It’s nice to see some more pigmented glosses!
The only color I disliked was Dainty. Too opaque and cadavers for my tastes. That said, the colors I could wear were even fewer. Pretty on you as usual. I will pass.
Oh, that is too bad, Susan! Maybe next set!
I purchased this set, I don’t wear shimmer/frost/sparkly lip products so I will never wear 5 of the glosses but I love Socialite (Gorgeous!), I like Black Cherry (I don’t own anything like this but I can get used to wearing this color) & Dainty is Fab-u-lous (looks so sexy when I pair it with my Laura Mercier chestnut lip liner or Inglot #19 Lip Pencil).
I’m so glad you are liking a few at least!
A pretty set, I’ve never seen any of ABH makeup here except for the brow products and the contouring palette. If I happen to see this set, I will surely be very tempted to buy it, even though I’d probably use Dainty very seldom, if ever. Just not my type of gloss, I really do like the other glosses a lot. I probably have some dupes, but, glosses don’t last forever, so I can tell myself I need new ones 😉
They have really weird distribution, IMO. It seems to be getting better here in the U.S., but it is all over the place – like Sephora doesn’t carry the full line (but I have heard they are going to add in more products).
Sunset Strip and Metallic Rose are gorgeous, but it’s such a disappointment that the darkest color preformed poorly. Does anyone have a really high-quality dark purple/berry lip gloss that they can recommend?
UD has a couple, I think! 🙂
