Too Faced Gingerbread Extra Spicy Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Gingerbread Extra Spicy
Too Faced Gingerbread Extra Spicy 18-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($49.00 for 0.43 oz.) is a new, limited edition eyeshadow palette that has 18 shades with a good split between mattes and shimmers. There were a few firmer, denser shimmers–almost like heavier, cream-powders–that could go on nicely with the right technique.
The mattes were more typical with the Too Faced formula, so they were soft and blendable but had some powderiness and sheered out a bit when blended out, so coverage had to be built up. I actually feel like the stiffer shimmers were the downfall of the palette; the mattes were very workable, and for someone who normally uses primer or prefers more buildable application, easy enough to work with.
The palette has a sweet, lightly spiced scent, though I didn’t notice it on my lids, just when I had the palette opened.

Vanilla Wafers
Vanilla Wafers is a light, warmer beige with a matte finish. It had a very soft texture but was moderately powdery, so there was some drop when applied and blended out, which can cause other tones to look faded or ashy, so I’d recommend applying this earlier on in your application (before deeper shades). It had nearly opaque pigmentation but sheered out to more medium coverage in practice. It lasted well for seven hours before fading visibly on me.

Cookie Cutter
Cookie Cutter is a light-medium peach with warmer, more orange undertones and flecks of peach and pink sparkle over a frosted finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that could be built up, though the texture was slightly drier and more prone to looking caked on/chunky when built up. On the lid, I’d recommend using it with a dampened brush to force the product to smooth out more. It wore nicely for seven hours before fading noticeably on my eye.

Soft and Sweet
Soft and Sweet is a medium, pinky-coral with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer pigmentation with a moderately powdery texture. The color didn’t build up that well unless applied over primer, where it built up to semi-opaque pigmentation. There was some fallout during application due to the powdery consistency. It stayed on well seven hours before fading noticeably.

For the Graham
For the Graham is a soft, light brown with warmer undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation was opaque in one layer, while the eyeshadow felt soft, smooth, and lightly powdery, so it sheered out a touch during blending but was rather minimal. It lasted well for seven and a half hours before showing signs of fading on me.

In a Pinch
In a Pinch is a bright, medium orange with balanced, warm undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had opaque pigmentation that applied evenly to bare skin and blended out nicely along the edges. It had a soft, lightly powdery consistency that sheered out slightly as I blended it out, but it could be built back up with little difficulty. It wore well for seven and a half hours before I noticed fading.

Drizzle It
Drizzle It is a deep, reddish copper with warm undertones and smooth, metallic sheen. It was intensely pigmented with a smooth, cream-like texture that wasn’t too densely-pressed into the pan but had no fallout or powderiness either. The eyeshadow applied beautifully and stayed on nicely for eight hours before fading visibly.

Spicy Mami
Spicy Mami is a deeper copper with strong, warm orange undertones and flecks of gold sparkle over a more satiny finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation applied dry and more opaque coverage applied with a dampened brush, though it was harder to blend when used with a dampened brush. It was very firmly pressed into the pan to the point where it felt like a stiff, cream-powder hybrid. I had to really push at and jab the surface of the eyeshadow to get product to release from it so I could pick it up and apply it to my skin. It was harder to apply the product evenly and blend it out as readily, too, though it seemed easier to blend out (at least) over primer. The color wore well for seven and a half hours on me.

Candy Queen
Candy Queen is a light, golden copper with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation applied dry, and the texture was a bit drier and more loosely-pressed, so I wanted to see if it improved with a dampened brush, which it did but not as much as I expected. The dampened brush helped the product apply more evenly and brought out the metallic finish, but I was able to apply it dry and build it up with minimal fallout. It wore nicely for eight hours with light fallout over time.

Gingerbread Glam
Gingerbread Glam is a medium, reddish-brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had opaque color coverage that applied well to bare skin with a smooth, even lay down of color that blended out well along the edges and only sheered out a touch when I did so. The texture was soft, lightly powdery but didn’t seem prone to fallout. It stayed on well for seven and a half hours before showing signs of fading.

Hot Tamale
Hot Tamale is a muted, medium berry red with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that applied fairly evenly but took more effort to diffuse and soften, especially along the edge, compared to most of the mattes in the palette. The eyeshadow had a slightly drier, dustier texture, though it only had a touch of fallout during application. It lasted well for seven and a half hours before fading visibly.

Cinna-moan
Cinna-moan is a muted, darker copper with warm, rusty red undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation was nearly opaque in a single layer, while the texture was soft, a smidgen dusty in the pan, but it blended out well on bare skin with slight sheering out as it did so. I had no trouble building the color back up, though. It wore well for seven and a half hours before fading noticeably.

Midnight Snack
Midnight Snack is a medium-dark black base with flecks of cooler, blue-teal shimmer and micro-sparkle on top. The texture was incredibly firm and stiff to work with, which gave it a drier, draggier edge that was difficult to diffuse and blend out. If I cheated the edge and used something else to diffuse and blend it out, then it was workable. I had to jam and jab my brush at the surface to get product to come off of the pan’s surface. Once on, it stayed on nicely for seven and a half hours before fading a bit.

Quite a mix of reviews. I wasn’t intending to buy this so no FOMO here. I think the colour story is nice but enough with the sweet themed and smelly palettes. All of the shades have been done to death. I have seen some very pretty e/s looks using the palette but could easily be duped with many other palettes out there. I was hoping Too Faced would really step it up and bring something new to the table. I think they have so much potential that they squander every year, every holiday and every release.
This palette’s various reviews range from the “love it” to almost “hate it” categories. Quite the swath! Leaving me feeling a little conflicted over it. Do I need this? Nope. I have plenty of similar shades to the point I didn’t even need to look up dupes! But, I really would have liked to “reward” Too Faced for finally going sodium saccharin FREE in one of those food themed palettes beyond just the Peach one. I just don’t know how to feel. ?♀️
Hi does the original too faced gingerbread palette contain this ingredient?
The only shades I liked were the shimmers, and as you have written Christine, they are not all that flash compared to a lot of others in the market. My favourite shade was Half Baked….
I think this palette shade range has been done many, many times before. There is really nothing original here.
I think your eye looks are beautiful.
It’s Christine’s eye looks that are always the “problem” – she makes even the lamest products look so good that a person can overlook what she says about the actual product/s!!! Interestingly, the thing I like best in her look is the one item that isn’t in the palette – the green UD liner!
midnight snack is a nice color from the swatches (the review is another thing :/), but it just looks….super odd next to all those peachy browns and oranges. people say that too faced is notorious for putting in random purples in their palettes and to me midnight snack doesn’t really “go” with the other colors. however, i think the palette is really pretty overall, and i love these types of colors on my eyes, but i don’t think i’ll be buying it for 1. i can’t justify the purchase right now and 2. as much as i love peachy browns and oranges on my eyes, i don’t think i need a whole palette full of them.
I think Too Faced goes on sale often enough that I wouldn’t be surprised to see this one get discounted at some point!
It’s not knocking my socks off. Last year’s was so much better.
Midnight Snack is the one colour that really caught my eye and seemed unique. Of course, it didn’t get a good rating (not that one shadow is a reason to buy a large palette) and I have UD’s Take the Black, so this palette is a definite “No” because of all the orange and red toned shades.
I love last year’s Gingerbread Spice palette, as did a lot of people, which is why they are capitalizing on it this season by releasing this palette, among other Gingerbread Themed items. I personally love cutesy themes, but only when you get high-quality and originality. This palette doesn’t live up to last year’s in either regard. Needless to say, this is not on my “must have” list.
Seems like a cash grab to me, especially because it’s so similar to the original Gingerbread palette.
I don’t have the original Gingerbread… and at first wasn’t interested in this one, but it is growing on me. I might throw it on my Christmas list and see if it shows up under the tree. If not I don’t think I’d be missing out, but I think it would be nice to have since I love all things Gingerbread.
