MAC Impassioned Lipglass, Lipstick, Nail Lacquer

MAC Impassioned Lipstick ($14.50 for 0.10 oz.) has been such a top-seller that it has now inspired a Lipglass ($14.50 for 0.17 fl. oz.) and Nail Lacquer ($16.00 for 0.34 fl. oz.) to complement it. This shade is part of the Asia Pacific, Europe/Africa, and Latin America/Middle East portions of the collection, so it will only be available online for North America buyers. Impassioned is described as “bright warm pink.”

When the lipgloss is layered over the lipstick, the result is a deepened, vibrant pink-red with a hint of silver micro-shimmer. The combined color is totally opaque and the two products work well together without causing any unevenness or bunching up. The nail polish doesn’t match the lipstick or lipgloss at all; they’re different animals, really. Sure, they’re both warm-toned, but the nail lacquer is nearly orange! You can see it in the swatches as well as the product photos; the bottle of polish looks much more orange compared to the vibrant pink (with more like a hint of orange/coral) gloss and lipstick.

Impassioned Lipglass is a bright pink-red with subtle warm undertones. It applies pretty opaque on lips, and it doesn’t settle too much into lip lines. The strong, opaque color helps to minimize the appearance of what settling there is. MAC Scandelicious is blue-based. MAC Gimme That is slightly pinker and has fuchsia shimmer. Illamasqua Follow is a bit redder. (9, 10, 9, 9, 4.5, 4; A)

Impassioned Lipstick is a nearly neon pink-red with a hint of coral warmth. It has an amplified creme finish. It yields opaque color coverage, and it has a fairly creamy consistency that enables a good glide of color to spread evenly across the lips during application. MAC Moxie is a bit pinker. MAC Party Parrot is less pink, more coral. OCC QUeen is redder, darker. Guerlain Gigi is darker. NARS Funny Face is less coral.  The lipstick is part of the permanent range. (9.5, 10, 8.5, 10, 4.5, 4; A)

Impassioned Nail Lacquer is a rich orange-coral that leans and looks more orange than it does coral, but in certain lighting or at particular angles, there is more coral color coming forth. It’s opaque in two coats, and while the initial coat had some streaking, the second coat covered most of it pretty well. Deborah Lippmann Girls Just Want to Have Fun is just a touch more orange. Illamasqua Lament is a little more coral. SpaRitual Love & Happiness is darker, more orange. (9, 9, 9, 9, 4, 4; B+)

MAC Lipsticks are vanilla-scented but taste-free. Amplified creme finishes like Impassioned typically wear four to six hours on me, with deeper shades like this one wearing closer to six hours. This particular finish is not particularly moisturizing, but I don’t find it drying either, though Impassioned has a slightly drier texture compared to other shades in the range. MAC Lipglasses are also vanilla-scented but taste-free. They are very sticky and have a thick, borderline-goopy consistency. If you prefer gel-like, cushion-y glosses that feel lightweight on, I don’t recommend MAC Lipglass. Because of the tackier texture, MAC Lipglasses do tend to wear a full four hours on me, with some of the darker shades lasting up to six hours (with mostly the color lingering at that point).

Note: I am reviewing each “set” together. After I’ve reviewed all sixteen sets, I will do round-ups for each product type (so all lipsticks together) to deliver an overall Glossover rating. This rating is more indicative of the product type, as the rating that follows this post is an average across three totally different types of products. You can also see the individual scores listed after each product, which are listed in the same order as they are in the Glossover.

Every time I read that the colour is specific to a region in the release I get sad.  Thankfully so far for everyone of those colours I already have something similar enough in my collection 😀

I’ve had Impassioned lipstick for about a year now and I have to be in a special mood to wear it and it’s not something I’d wear to work.  Every time I do wear it, I sort of expect my family to recoil in shock, but so far, they haven’t even commented on it (I have to admit, I do apply it with an awfully light hand, though!)

I love my Impassioned lipstick, but that nail polish color CLASHES. In fact, I would never wear them together. I would have said that the Impassioned nail polish would match more closely to the recently released and rereleased Watch Me Simmer.

the nail polish looks terrible with the lipglass and lipstick! i love the lipstick but i fear its too bright for every day use as opposed to party parrot, which i was hoping it would be closer to.

wwendalynne Avatar

This one is really bright on me too!  I also have Fusion Pink which is close, a touch more red, but much less vibrant.  I get away with this colour a lot better during the day.  I’ll have to check out party parrot..I don’t have that.

Can’t wait to see the swatches and write up on Razzledazzler, Spice, Chestnut, Myth, Snob, Please Me, Russian Red, Rebel, and Peachstock (in other words, all of them!)

I love this lipstick, it really is a great color but the nail polish is a let down. For such a bright and pretty color the nail polish looks dusty.

I wore this lipstick yesterday and it is bright!  I adore this colour, but think it will look a little less loud when I have a touch of colour on my skin.  Looks great on you, Christine.  I’m so glad I did not purchase the nail enamel as I had recently purchased Tom Ford in Indian Pink which I mentally figured as a close match.  This nail varnish reads really orangey to me and the lip is so not that!  Great lipstick and gloss though!

SO PRETTY. And can I just mention I LOVE the changes to how the grades appear on your site? The other day I was at a store contemplating a purchase, and I brought up your review on my iPhone. I really just wanted to see the grade, and now it’s so much easier to find, even on that tiny screen. 🙂

Bummer about the nail varnish, you’d think a bright pink like that would transfer easily into nail varnish 🙁 This whole collection has made me consider getting some brights but I don’t know anyone would could carry them off like you do. This collection makes me admire your dedication. I also think you look wonderful in each look! Your eyes look amazing in all the looks too!

Forget the Mac, look at those Armani “Eyes to Kill” eyeshadows!!!!!!  Whoa, baby! I hope the review is good. (On second thought, maybe it’s better if the review is bad because otherwise I’ll have a huge hole in my wallet and I’m trying so hard to be good. )

On topic, I’m scrolling down through your photos, thinking “Eh…. I prefer my NARS” when suddenly the nail varnish pops up and I go “Why is there orange here???!” I know you warned of the discrepancy in your review but going through the line of photos, the difference is actually JARRING. Yikes.

Veronica Avatar

This is a really great color for you – really beautiful.  I suspect it’d be too much on a pale lady like me, but women with darker skin tones will look amazing in it.

Ahh, look at that pigment! /flails

I was a bit worried about how some of the brights in this collection would translate into Lipglass form, but your swatches have completely put my qualms to rest. I’m not typically a gloss kind of girl, but I think I’ll have to check out Girl About Town and Impassioned, at the very least!

Miss J Avatar

That’s…weird. LOL. Two totally different shades between the lip products and polish. Thanks again for the photos! This is not a one I own, and I have some empties, so maybe I will pick up the lipstick with B2M then get the gloss to go along. What a great summer shade!

that image of impassioned makes me not wanna buy impassioned, been on my wish list for a while, but i have tried it in person and like it.  well, at least it’ll help me postpone buying it.  good!

skipping collection altogether.

I really wanted this set with the matching nail polish. So sad that the color is way off and so glad that I saw your swatches before I ordered. @Christine (Temptalia) You are the queen of swatches! 🙂 Thank you. Was wondering though if you or anyone knows of a polish that does match Impassioned?

lindsayfayemakeup Avatar

in the photo here the lipstick reminds me a lot of the NYX round lipstick in Femme not sure cuz ive yet to try a mac lipstick but yeah when i was watching the vid i thought the same thing to myself, but i do own femme and its my fave corally red!! 😀

lindsayfayemakeup Avatar

cool, maybe i will make this my first mac lipstick purchase…its soooooo beautiful! thanks for the comment back, because im kind of obsessed with the thought of buying it LOL and i was like oh i cant if i already have a color like it but, since ive never bought or tried a mac lipstick, this would be perfect!!!!! <3 mwahhh!

heather Avatar

what a pretty shade! i have a question–could you tell me how close you think this is to the old lipglass shade, “just add colour”…? thanks!

aditi Avatar

Just ordered the lipgloss. I would always lust after the lipstick, but I know I will never have occassion to pull off the lipstick, So I am very happy that they brought out the lipgloss version

ScarletSpitfire Avatar

Hi I’m a UK girl and I went into my local branch of MAC yesterday and tried the Impassioned nail polish and it’s a bright blue-pink, absolutely beautiful and a perfect match for Impassioned lipstick. There must’ve been a cockup somewhere with yours 🙁 Maybe something went wrong with production?? A good dupe for it is Barry M’s Shocking Pink btw, pretty much identical 🙂
