The Best & Worst of Wet 'n' Wild Palettes / Quads
Wet ‘n’ Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow 10-Pan Palette ($4.99 for 0.29 oz.) and Wet ‘n’ Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Quad ($2.99 for 0.16 oz.) are new for spring and are all permanent additions to the brand’s range. For 2018, Wet ‘n’ Wild updated their powder eyeshadow and then rolled out four new larger palettes and six quads.
The formula is supposed to be “powerfully pigmented” with a “butter-soft” texture that “glides on like a dream.” The majority of the eyeshadows are on the drier side, sometimes feeling loosely pressed and other times more chalk-like and truly dry to the point where a primer became a must for getting good adhesion and wear out of the formula. Most of the matte shades were quite pigmented, and I found they actually applied better to bare skin than some of the shimmers, which often appeared faded and muted in practice compared to how they appeared in the pan. The pigmentation varied from decent to mostly opaque depending on the shade, and the wear was typically between five and seven hours on me.
I did not keep most of the previously-released trios and palettes from the brand as mine, but when I compared 2018’s formula to the prior one (and mine are likely five or more years old), the previous formula was far better for their shimmers–slightly more slip, creamier in feel, and typically more pigmented and true-to-color on the lid. I think the mattes, overall, are improved as they are more blendable and pigmented on the lid.

“Best and Worst”??? Maybe for the first time in Temptalia history, this should be called “Bad and Worse” or “Worse and Worst”? I am so happy to have and still use my “oldie but goodie” WnW palettes and trios. They were so good and I’m guessing few people who own them will be discarding them in favour of these new releases.
A real disappointment coming from Wet n Wild. It could have worked so well. Although Smashbox are not having much success with their trios either.
Ugh. Brands—Stop reformulating when it isn’t broken! Looking at you, Make Up For Ever!!
Sweet as Candy is the only one I’d consider.
WnW and MUFE sure know how to depress the eyeshadow lover in me. Both formulas*were* so good for their respective qualities. And now this garbage? ?
I’m so sad these have been reformulated. Why must everything be changed? Yeah, I get that change is good and all of that jazz, but in Wet ‘n Wild’s case, it simply wasn’t necessary. ?
Reformulating their eyeshadows trios and palettes is probably the biggest mistake they’ll ever make. I’ve yet to find a shimmer formula that’s as good as it was… I’m so glad that I already had all three of the 8 pan palettes and I found Walking on Eggshells on clearance!
Thank you for this. What a huge disappointment. The Silent Treatment and Walking on Eggshells trios were some of my favorites. I guess it’s true – if it ain’t broke…
