Sweet as Candy

Wet ‘n’ Wild Sweet as Candy Color Icon Eyeshadow Quad ($2.99 for 0.16 oz.) contains three neutral-hued shades and a pop of pink. Three of the four shades were shimmery, though only one was on the more frosted/obvious side. This was one of the better-performing quads from the line-up as the eyeshadows were pigmented, blendable, and wore decently on their own.

Sweet as Candy #1

Sweet as Candy #1 is a medium-dark taupe with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was smooth, velvety, and just a smidgen dusty in the pan, but it applied evenly and smoothly to the lid with opaque color payoff in a single layer. It blended out without issue and lasted for seven hours on me.

Formula Overview

-

The formula is supposed to be "powerfully pigmented" with a "butter-soft" texture that "glides on like a dream." The majority of the eyeshadows are on the drier side, sometimes feeling loosely pressed and other times more chalk-like and truly dry to the point where a primer became a must for getting good adhesion and wear out of the formula. Most of the matte shades were quite pigmented, and I found they actually applied better to bare skin than some of the shimmers, which often appeared faded and muted in practice compared to how they appeared in the pan. The pigmentation varied from decent to mostly opaque depending on the shade, and the wear was typically between five and seven hours on me.

I did not keep most of the previously-released trios and palettes from the brand as mine, but when I compared 2018's formula to the prior one (and mine are likely five or more years old), the previous formula was far better for their shimmers--slightly more slip, creamier in feel, and typically more pigmented and true-to-color on the lid. I think the mattes, overall, are improved as they are more blendable and pigmented on the lid.

Sweet as Candy #2

Sweet as Candy #2 is a light beige with subtle, warm yellow undertones and a pearly sheen. It had good pigmentation that applied well to bare skin and blended out nicely without sheering out too readily. The texture was soft, just a little dry, but it was easy to work with on its own. The eyeshadow started to fade on me after seven hours of wear.

Sweet as Candy #3

Sweet as Candy #3 is a medium brown with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. The color payoff was opaque, while the texture was smooth, soft without being too soft or too firm in the pan. It applied evenly to my lid, blended out with ease, and stayed on well for seven and a half hours.

Sweet as Candy #4

Sweet as Candy #4 is a medium pink with warm, yellow undertones and a pearly sheen. It had nearly opaque color coverage in a single layer. The eyeshadow felt soft, a touch dry in the pan, but it was blendable and seemed to go on evenly over bare skin. It lasted for six and a half hours before fading noticeably.

Thanks so much for reviewing this! I have the older version and I’m excited to repurchase this one – that matte dark taupe is a rare find at the drugstore.
