Comfort Zone

Wet ‘n’ Wild Comfort Zone Color Icon Eyeshadow 10-Pan Palette ($4.99 for 0.35 oz.) is a new, permanent palette that features earthy neutrals from red-toned browns to smoky browns to pops of green and teal. The formula has a softer, drier consistency compared to the original Comfort Zone palette, where the shimmers felt plusher and had better adhesion and color payoff. I do find the reformulated mattes to have better performance on the lid, though, with respect to blendability and pigmentation.

Comfort Zone #1

Comfort Zone #1 is a muted, dark red-toned brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good pigmentation with a lightly powdery consistency that was a bit messy to work with but blended out nicely. This shade lasted for seven hours on me.

FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent).

Formula Overview

-

The formula is supposed to be "powerfully pigmented" with a "butter-soft" texture that "glides on like a dream." The majority of the eyeshadows are on the drier side, sometimes feeling loosely pressed and other times more chalk-like and truly dry to the point where a primer became a must for getting good adhesion and wear out of the formula. Most of the matte shades were quite pigmented, and I found they actually applied better to bare skin than some of the shimmers, which often appeared faded and muted in practice compared to how they appeared in the pan. The pigmentation varied from decent to mostly opaque depending on the shade, and the wear was typically between five and seven hours on me.

I did not keep most of the previously-released trios and palettes from the brand as mine, but when I compared 2018's formula to the prior one (and mine are likely five or more years old), the previous formula was far better for their shimmers--slightly more slip, creamier in feel, and typically more pigmented and true-to-color on the lid. I think the mattes, overall, are improved as they are more blendable and pigmented on the lid.

Comfort Zone #2

Comfort Zone #2 is a deep, blackened brown with a pearly sheen and subtle, warm undertones. The consistency was soft, smooth, and not too loosely pressed in the pan, so it didn’t come off as powdery or dusty. It was richly pigmented and applied evenly to bare skin. This shade wore well for seven and a half hours on me.

Comfort Zone #7

Comfort Zone #7 is a sooty, blackened brown with a pearly sheen. The texture was slightly drier, and I found it harder to blend out evenly on the skin as it seemed to adhere rather strongly to some areas and then not want to diffuse from there. It had excellent pigmentation that stayed on well for seven and a half hours.

Comfort Zone #8

Comfort Zone #8 is a medium-dark, red-toned brown base with green-to-teal shifting pearl. It had good color coverage with a soft, lightly powdery texture that was a bit thinner overall. The shimmer was fine and on the subtle side, especially as I blended the shade on my lid, and it never looked metallic on my eye, even over primer. This shade lasted for seven hours on me.

Comfort Zone #10

Comfort Zone #10 is a light-medium green with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that applied unevenly to bare skin and had a tendency to sheer out too quickly on the lid. The eyeshadow did not improve much over primer either. On me, it lasted for five and a half hours before signs of fading popped up.

So glad I have the original Comfort Zone palette . And I also brought a holiday wet n wild set that included OG Comfort Zone, Petal Pusher palette and the gold highlighting bar! !So glad I have a backup since I love this palette. I’m going to buy this new one though just for the transition shades.

I think all of us who have the original Comfort Zone palette are probably shaking our heads. I think the original might still be available at the little drugstore down the street and if it is, I will probably pick one up – my first “back up” in ages.
